Hi all !

I plan to buy new tires for my MGT and I'd like to know what tires and rims do you run/race and any comments about your choice...

Thanks

Every brand and style is used by SOMEONE. Are you looking for advice for certain conditions? Racing? Bashing? All-around? Sand? Loam? Grass? Rocks? Gravel?

I'm looking for race tire on hard track. I tried Proline 40 bowtie with velocity wheels but they bent easily....

I'm looking for Zombie Maxx or Bowtie. Do you know if Proline velocity "maxx size" wheels bend as Proline 40 velocity do ?

I run Ofna Dom rims AKA Maxx size "slar " The Velocitys are Ez to brake. If you want a real tuff wheel that can use 40 size tires get Duratrax Thunder Quake rims. But you will have to use 19mm hex hubs..

I think I tried to tell you that proline 40 series wheels wouldn't hold up on a heavy truck. I run regular bow ties and don't have any trouble on the track.

I should have listened to you :)

I ordered RPM Clawz with Proline Bowties. I'll lose some ground clearance compare to the stock tires.

Right - I kicked my gearing up to compensate for the smaller tire and loss of top end speed. I'm running a 16/49 gear combo, it works well.

And what about bottoming out ? Ground clearance and shock setup ?

The HPI Dirt Bonz with Q6 wheels seems to work the best on my track. I run the same tire and wheel combination on all my MT's including the powerful LST

My truck does bottom out, but it's very controlable, if you jump *right" it doesn't bottom out at all, and you've got to really screw things up in the air to make it bottom out and get squirrely. I'm running 45 weight oil (just buy 50 weight and put it in one shock on each corner) with one copper spring and one blue spring on each corner. Bones level. Ground clearance is fine.

Slaf- The Clawz are heavey. Wouldn't recommend them for racing. YOu can get the regular velocity rims (maxx size) and that'll do you just fine.

For racing I'll be using Bow ties as well. For bashing I use Zombie Maxx tires. THey're really good for all around stuff.

Coth- do you know what the stock Clutch Bell size is?

I'm using red springs with 40wt. How high can you drop down your truck before he bottoms out ? I'm just curious :) I had to upgrade to 70wt to prevent bottoming out but the truck is too hard so I downgraded to 40wt. I also have RPM A-Arms (don't know if it changes something on landing)

On AE web site, Saxton used 40wt + red springs + Bowties for racing, I'm curious to know if he bottomed out :) Does anyone have Saxton email ? :D :D

MikeWZ -> Does your regular Velocity wheels bend ? I have a set of Velocity 40 and they bent very easily :(

Bottoming out isn't really a big deal, unless you're really smacking the ground hard. In racing you usually have some kind of landing ramp which helps to eliminate bottoming out unless you land totally wrong

I think that Coth, Myself, and maybe somebody else attested to having problems witih the 40 series Velocity rims being weak. I have 0 problems with the standard Maxx sized Velocity rims. I think Pro-line just made the rims bigger and didn't do anything to reinforce them and that's why they bend (the 40s that is).

If you drop down your truck from 2-3ft does he bottom out ? Mine does at 2 ft.

The regular velocity rims *will* bend if you put a serious hit on them. You shouldn't have any trouble out of them though unless you're super rough on your truck. My truck does bottom out from about 2.5 feet dropping straight down, but you have to remember, most of the time when you jump, you aren't dropping straight down, you have some forward momentom too.
