Hot Bodies has a great product there is no doubt about that.
I was not a fan at all till I saw this bad boy in person.
It was just awesome!
I think that Hot Bodies does not have the kick back like Traxxas and some others do for the magazine companies!
Race on
THE LSP RULES!

I'm gonna let a little cat outta the bag HOT BODIES OWNS A MAJOR R/CMAG+they own another major r/c company!! they have lots of$$$$$$ TO much that they treat us like #s. I love the LSP LS no doubt and in time there will be so much aftermarket support you won't need to deal with em. ;)

well I have been thinking about getting an 1/8 scale buggy and I am thinking about going Hot Bodies!
I am really impressed with this truck.
The way they set it up is just awesome.
Hope there is alot of future for the truck cause I thinks its the next big thing getting bigger!

mb there is only 2 pro1s left NIB that i know of.. speak up real fast as i know 2 persons wanting to buy them both.. and i cannot reccomend a pro2 for what value the pro1 is..
the mugens supposedly killes the lsp at the last national races.. but ive seen quite a few counting myself have same lap times as the fastest buggy at the track..
rc driver does alot of HB reviews.. i expect they sleep together like rcca sleeps with traxxas.. rc driver also gets all the pre ads for new hb stuff vs all the other mags too..

Yeah but the Mugen kits are always super ass expensive!
I'll stick with the LSP.
I have been accused of being a band wagon buyer in the past so just to prove that I am not
I"LL STICK WITH THE LSP

Very nice paint job. I was never a big fan of that body but it turned out very good. I would like to learn to paint my own stuff!!! You could make some really cool bodies with that carbon fiber look. I would like to see and entire body like that.
Anyone else brake one of the bolts off that hold the front dif on the bottom of the truck? When I went to take the front dif of today to change out my front dif oil one of the big screws broke off.

no its color change.. and why its different color..
at the moment.. that one above would fit real nice.. but rear wing and sides would need some trimming to hang it low on a LSP
the bronco, the cuda, the nomad, all fit well.. ill be honest any body can be made to fit.. just need a dremal..

"Anyone else brake one of the bolts off that hold the front dif on the bottom of the truck? When I went to take the front dif of today to change out my front dif oil one of the big screws broke off."
Hey Keith-OH, I've got some super-strong machine-thread screws you can use to replace the weak, stock "wood screws" holding the diffs to your chassis plate. Shoot me an e-mail at doesgo@slapmafro.com if you're interested.
I can't wait for my LSP!. My brother, friend, and I each have an LSP on order at our LHS. Just think, we almost got the GS SUT instead but cooler heads prevailed (it's one of those deals where we all are going to have the same car, truck, buggy, etc, we already have somewhat matching XB8s and V-One RR Evos).
I ran into a friend at the LHS yesterday and he mentioned that he has the Losi LST. When I asked him how he liked it he called it the "Lousy Stupid Truck!

on another note .. does the lightnin pro buggy diff have hardened gears same as lsp ?
CRSMP5
03-13-2005, 06:19 PM
what happens is the diff gets shoved sizeways and it shears the head of the bolt off the chassis thats in the works should solve this as the knife edge of the chassis will no tbe a knife edge.. i say stronger screws will solve it though..

i forgot to mention what happened lastnite at the races .. all went well thru the qualifying heats.. but once i get in the main i get about 6 laps into it and i throw a wheel.. ok i was like my nut came of.. went to pits grab another nut and went to put wheel back on and the old nut is still on the truck..okkk so i ripped the rim right off the truck.. so i grab a bowtie on a proline maxx and same dam thing happens... ok this is gettin fun .. so i put another on and on the last lap again.. threw it right off... and this time broke the hex right in half...
i finished second thru all that to i might add but i was stumped .. i still dont know what was happening ..everything looks fine .. my only guess is that i might be damaging my rims by overtightening them .. i use a cordless drill to take rims off the truck and put them on... so i may have just been smushin the rim where it meets the nut and hex..i dunno

yes i totally agree.... i still love the truck though.. i never expected the engine to be the strong point of this truck and hopefully others wont as well ....
i should have just put the engine on ebay like most others did and not of dealt with all this ....
Anyone running a LSP wiht the plastic suspension arms? I'm a firm believer in having a weak link in the suspension that will break before the hard to get at parts do. What I'm wondering is whether it's a better idea to keep the aluminum suspension arms or to downgrade to plastic arms?

first i must say great choice in truck . all three of u will be happy with the LSP as i am sure u already know... the wait must be killing u .... lol
second... ur question on arms.. i have been runing the aluminum arms for 3 race weeks with a total of over 12 races on them no breakage or direct cause of breakage coming from the aluminum arms.. i have a cpl semi nasty crashes but that was when i first got the truck and now i may crash only once per race now ...
so u know what ur driving skill is like and what kind of abuse u put on ur trucks ,im guessing u have had one before , but on that note u make the call..

Anyone ever trim on the sides of here hubs so you can turn sharper? The steering arm hits the hub so i trimmed some of the hub off and also moved the screw in the steering arm to the inner hole so you have more room for the turnbuckle. Looks like it should help out but you will have to readjust you stearing if you do this. It all depends on what rims you our using if you need to also trim the stearing ball ends.

Hey Monsterbrad...I have just stuck a Mach in my LSP and its only just topping my mates stock pro. I have only just started leaning it out and its only done about 7 tanks but thought i would be leaving him standing. Where is the mach better than the stock...bottom or top end?.. This was only drag racing on road so need to get a few more tanks through the mach and get off road...i love the mach in my LST.... :)

I did not get the pro version. Mainly becuase it is on backorder but also because I didnt see the need for alluminum a arms.

nate.. look at pages 3-10 as those are most informative...
rear brace, front cvds, loctite, are the biggies.. the rtr has grease not oil in the diffs also...
next im working on a nice list (just not here).. it cannot ever kill the thread here, it is the forum the stadium and buggy grew on, so much great info over here cannot ever loose it, its just time for a easy to find forum.. p.s. ive known about its creation for a few weeks. its just today was the day it opened..
next the aluminum a arms are only a small part fo the pro package.... it sux they are on backorder too... by summer there should be a huge amount avaliable, but i rember when the pro buggy came out it took almost a year to have a stock and supply of them.. they were in and sold as soon as shipments were received.. this is doing the same thing...

I just posted this over on the new forum but for you that dont go there here is what I did this weekend to my truck. I did a little mod to my front hubs to see if i can get it to turn sharper. I did not get to drive it since I did this mod since I am waiting on my new engine. In the fist picture you can see where I trimmed the hub where the steering arm was hitting at. I also moved the screw in the stearting arm to the inner hole for more clearance. For the stock rims I needed to trim the ball ends more to make it turn sharper. As for the Revo rims you can see they almost hit the A-arms since it is turning sharper.

Alright guys I have a few questions....
I got the revo push rods and mounted one in front and one in the rear. Is that enough bracing?
Is the doubleing up of the drag link a necessaty? If so would the racers edge kanai be a better fit? Or would it be better to just double up the stockers?
Is there anything else that needs to be done to the truck b4 racing?

Alright guys I have a few questions....
I got the revo push rods and mounted one in front and one in the rear. Is that enough bracing?
Is the doubleing up of the drag link a necessaty? If so would the racers edge kanai be a better fit? Or would it be better to just double up the stockers?
Is there anything else that needs to be done to the truck b4 racing?
the stock one bends, have part numbers for the mugen one now, but for the under 4$ the stock one is a racer on a budget is the cheapest way to go..
honestly, 1 on each end should be enough, i cannot see a need for 2 of them, i never really had a issue on the track with none..

That's too bad. Categories are nice sometimes, but this style of forum is cool for ongoing conversations. Also this method makes it very easy to catch up on everything because it's all there. When there are a dozen subjects it's difficult to go into and back out of every one checking for new posts. Maybe I'm just lazy. :)

Ok are you using the Mach?
If so once the engine gets too hot you have to shut it down let it cool and start over again.

Vaporlock Yes Yes that one makes sense to me. Finger over exhaust i can see fuel head for carb, but then backs up by same amount! I tried duracrap temp did not care for it. Go by feel if i can put my finger on it for a few seconds comfortably i feel i'm not far off, and there is smoke coming from exhaust.

its not tune... what clutch ya using? a year ago with kuhn's savage his flywheel nut came loose, it got the carb so hot it stuck due to the friction of the clutch slipping.. the engine temp was around 230f when this happened too..
on my rb tm728 when i started to play with the big big blocks, it took me some time to figure out why the carb would freeze up, the slide would stick, it was also clutch shoe slippage..
my suggestion.. mugen composite shoes, .9 springs...
also what clutch do you have? is it a rtr or 3 shoe version?

I have used rtr & pro cannot remember what was going on then. Right now i'm using what came on mach26(ebay item).i did notice the engine was running faster than usaul, sounded like a high stall torque converter in a fullsize race car! Pretty sure you are right about this, slipping clutch explains delayed overheating. Thanks so much! could not find one person at LHS with answers. I had a similar problem. I ran pretty smoothly for a tank or so but as everything heated up it got worse. I found two problems. The pressure nipple on my tank was clogged with carbon deposits and it seemed to build up as the pressure built up. That took care of the fuel suddenly not reaching the carb for me. The other was a slipping clutch. After two straight tanks the heat finally built up and boiled what fuel it was getting even though the head temps were still ok.
Monsterbrad
03-21-2005, 04:15 PM
The slipping clutch thing seems to be a common thing among these truggies.
All I can say is CR has ended the problem by using Mugen Composits and .9 springs.
He is runnung a hefty 28 modded engine and if these shoes last for that they should be good for any engine.
I lost clutch bearings the last time I raced and that caused the clutch bell to over heat clutches to slip and everything locked up.
Try the Composit shoes from mugen and the .9 springs.
As far as the engine getting hot try all new fuel lines and see what happens.

it's very hard to get in contact with HB. My friend emailed them alot and no answer.
We strongly believe he didn't get the hardened diff gears. It looks shiny and silver. He definately has the pro, alum. arms., aluminum shock caps, and all.
How does the hardened diff gears look?
a couple of guys are awaiting for the their LSpro's to come in, so as soon as it gets here, we'll have a looksee at the diffs.
If there is grease and not oil and the gears are looking exactly like my rr gears(shiny and silver), we'll definately know HB is cutting corners or they are just making mistakes in the production department. If it's a mistake it's gonna be a huge one.

well, I think I've got mixed reviews to report for the fantom fr27. It was a strong engine at the start, easy to tune and ran like a champ, that is until yesterday at the races. Ran like a top during practice, but couldn't get it to run when the 1st qual started. Would start than flame out, like it was rich on the top end. Just tore the motor down and with only 1/2 gal on it, the piston and sleeve are shot! No compression left.
I'm calling fantom tomorrow and we'll see what their service is like. Don't know if this is just bad luck on my part, or if it's a BAD engine. Anyone else ever run a fantom? Good thing I still have the stock engine still setting around, was gonna cut the crank and put it in my maxx. :D

We've got a Fantom 27 and it ran great when we got it (used) but didn't last long. Put a new piston/sleeve in it, it broke-in great, seemed great on the track, but like yours, it just didn't last. I just had it pinched to give it one last show before it hits the dumpster, but I'm not too optimistic about it. Seems this short life is quite common with the Fantom 27s, unfortunately.

honestly i used something even easier to find, savage hing pin braces, a pack of 2 is 4$ and basically i cut the ends off.. the 4mm bolt fits thru the mushroom shaped head with ease then.. aka shape of the hingpin brace once the end is hacked off, you rusing the pin hole not the screw holes of the brace..
a flaw with the mount plate to do it that way, you will have to remove the threads or notch them so the bolts do not interfear, 4mm ones are hard to find, but 3mm is getting harder to find, why i used what i did.. rember you will need to find engine mount bolts that are 3-4mm longer also...

Youll need a new set of tires but, before glueing, fold the tire inside out, then put the foam inside to hold its shape, Next you use a strip of the clear packing tape with string in it,Go around the tire once completly and untill it overlaps its self about 3 inches, Flip the tire back over and glue them up as normal.

Too keep the front tires from balooning up throw some 120,000 wt oil in there.
Thats what I am running no balooning at all.
Also you can run a single strip of Duct tape around the inside of the tire also.

actually stone savage, the gears are slightlty different, the hb hardened ones still have a cut out in the backs of the bigger diff gears for weight reduction that a savage gear lacks... but same material..
i had to put the hb blue springs on the rear keith, its a power to weight ratio, the rear is diving so much its pulling the weight from the front tires..

I am pulling my hair out trying to determine which engine to buy. I will be running a medium size track. If I buy a .21 then my track will let me run in the big block or unlimited class. A .25 or bigger means unlimited only. Your thoughts on some of my options. I would prefer a motor with good torque as opposed to top speed for my LSP.

NOVA P5
O.S. V-SPEC
NOVA 421B
MACH .26

I have heard lots of good about them.
Only one bad report of the rod letting go but who knows how that person was treating the engine at that point.
It all depends on what you want to spend.

But if you are going to spend the extra bucks go for the ws7II or a higher end engine.

I seen a WS7II last weekend at the track. I was very impressed with it. But I was told they our $350. I have a total of $165 in my SH28. That is counting my back plate and pull start I put on it. I use my starter box most of the time. Then after it is warmed up I will use the pull start if I am not close to my starter box. I am impressed with this engine so far. I am only on tank about 10 and running it very rich and it has all kinds of power. That is with the stock exhaust. I cant wait to get my JP-1 exhaust and lean it out some.

mb are you running aluminum arms?
if yes, a fellow racer uses ofna shock ends, you'll need a 3mm washer to go on the shock shaft before you install the ofna shock ends. What the washer does is it keeps the stock spring retainer in its place. A fellow racer has two race days, and one practice day on them.
So far so good, the ofna shock ends seems to cure his broken shock end problem.

A better engine that what is in there stock even a mild one like the OS 21 rg would help out with more power.
Change your oils also.
Center you want thick like 120,000
front 50,000
rear 7-10,000 wt's
some put thinner on but I like this set up for pretty much everything.
the shocks could also use some 50wt or maybe a little thicker.

Update on the saga of the blown fantom fr27
Got in touch with fantom only to be told that there was a design flaw in the timing on the engine ports. That was why you couldn't get the engines for the longest time. They were doing a complete redesign on the crank, piston and sleeve. Said that it had cost them a fortune in warranty claims on the old design. Somehow I got an old series engine from horizon and it was just a matter of time till the engine shot craps.
On the up side they are sending me a the new style crank, piston and sleeve, and wrist pin and clips to rebuild it. Can't get a connecting rod right now cause they're out of em. Shouldn't be a problem since I'm only 1/2 gal into the motor. Here's how you tell which engine you got, if it's black coated on the block all the way around and it comes with a standard headbutton, you got the old one, if it has machining around the sides of the block near the front bearing and a turbo headbutton you got a new one.
We'll see what happens when I get the parts and get it rebuilt.
doesgo
03-29-2005, 11:09 PM
I've got an old one (no silver/machined look on the side at all except for the FR27 text).
What's the best way to go about getting these replacement parts? Do I have to complain? Do they make you give proof of purchase? I got mine second-hand, but it died quickly, we put in a new piston/sleeve, and it died again after a half-gallon. I just had it pinched, but I'm not too optimistic about it running well for very long.

I'm not sure if you can get anything warrantied because the motor is second hand. I do know that the said the crankshaft is different and I'm assuming the piston and sleeve is different, but I won't know how there different until I get it and can do some comparisons. The RD at one of the local tracks won't let truggy's run on the track with anything but the 1/8 buggies. I couldn't see where the problem was, none of the racer's minded and the one revo running didn't give anything up as far as top speed, he was actually faster on the back straight, was running a new os .18
Don't think I'll ever be going back to that track...... just cause I lapped the field four times :D they don't wanna let me play!

From the small track that i Race at I can see the buggies being faster cause they can turn just a little better and they don't have the big tires to deal with.
Komodos will make that better but this things size kinda works against it I think.
Still the Best Racer in my mind though for the monster class.
1/8 scale buggies are not anywhere close to a truggy class in my mind.

It actually does better against the buggies, I didn't race against them at the track that banned my truggy, but at the other local track I play on, which is really rough in sections, it just floats right on through where the buggies have to slow down or flip. I normally run better lap times with my LSP on that track.

Hi guys, I know this question most have been answered or asked a lot, but I really didn't want to read 60 pages. I ordered LSP from my hobby shop. I was wondering he said it would be a while before it would come in. Is there anything thing I should put on it besides an engine any hop ups that it really needs or parts that I should change. Appreciate any help.

MB's is a pretty small list of things to do to make it race-worthy! You ARE buying a good truck, but no truck is perfect for everyone right out of the box. You can race it stock, MB's just suggesting some things he's found to be helpful. Wheels, tires, and diff oil will probably need to be changed to suit your track and driving style no matter what vehicle you buy. That's a given.

I should say that I ran the truck completely stock for about a gallon.
Only added the chassis braces in that amount of time.
Changed the engine over to the Mach but I am having problems with the clutch but that is fixable with Mugen shoes and .9 springs just lazy and have not raced in a month.
Has anybody tried the Aluminum Mugen shoes???????
I have been told they are awesome!

I've got the Mugen aluminum shoes on my LST, SUT, and I think one other vehicle (can't remember which, though). Yeah, they're great! I've got 1.1 springs on the LST (that's all I had at the time) and 1.0 on the SUT, both work great.
