Looking for a pro?
I have one for sale, Mach 26 and a few other upgrades. :o
Not sure what to ask for it.
millmi5@cs.com
Just curious, but why are you selling your pro?
Monsterbrad
04-10-2005, 09:11 AM
The first person to sell one and it's not me :D
I am super happy with this truck after the bash session i put it through friday night!
HOLY CRAP
this thing will take a beating that's all I can say!
Just impressed me even more
Jumping it out of a loading dock flying through the air about a car and half and landing with control way out in the parking lot!
It was awesome
wheelies with the Mach are cool also.
Ran the Mach against a stock LST and they are very close till my clutch shoes start to slip!
Stupid racers edge shoes
Aluminum ones from Mugen I think is what I am going to run with either 1.0 or .9 springs have not decided yet for sure still pounding on the racers edge ones till they are smoked.
Just have to pump the throttle alot to keep them from slipping works pretty well out in the open.
Had an awesome time with this truggy!

Brad,
That sounds great. I'm planning to get an LSP as soon as they're available, again.
Do you think the LSP is as tough and durable as the Savage?
Thanks
Monsterbrad
04-12-2005, 05:14 PM
Well here is my opinion on that question of tuffness!
I feel that the MGT and the Savage are the toughest !
The MGT is easier to work on than the savage!
The LSP on the other hand I would have to say that it's up there with them.
I have not put it through the paces like that cause of parts being a pain to get but I would say its pretty tough probably not as tough as the Savage or MGT cause they are just crazy tough!
The truggy is going out again tomorrow night depending on the weather here for another bash session.
can't wait to ride some more wheeelies!

Hey guys I'm getting my LSP tommarrow and wanted to put the Mach from a LST on it being I have it and its already broken in. What changes do I have to make as far as Starting it go's. Can I use the Losi set-up or do I have to use a roto start. I think if I change over to roto start I will have to change my backplate to a XTM motor backplate or a GS R25MT back plate is that right?
Oh yeah is the stock motor that bad? Should I just take it off and put it on ebay. Or run it till it dies?
Thanks guys!

They're generally referring to Mugen springs, as far as I know. They have their springs rated by the diameter of the wire, be it 0.9, 1.0, or 1.1mm.
Sorry, guys, got tired of waiting. The place I ordered this from told me that HB gave them an ETA of June or July. I bought the Savage SS4.6 last night and might get this down the road when they become available again.

I could have sworn that someone posted pictures here on these forums about putting LSP suspension arms onto a Savage but now can't find it. Anyone have pics and instructions? Brad,
Do you have the aluminum or plastic arms in your LSP? (Did you replace the aluminum with plastic?)
Have you had any problems with the alum. arms bending? If plastic, have you had any problems with the flex in the plastic arms causing the dogbones to bend?
doesgo
04-26-2005, 03:59 AM
Are you guys having problems with the shock rod ends breaking? We've lost two off the left rear shock from moderate use.
CRSMP5
04-26-2005, 09:37 AM
does you got the sroop screws installed?? if not they break shock ends.

Monsterbrad
04-26-2005, 06:57 PM
yes i do
I like the aluminum arms!
Also I would like to have a different way to stop the arms from going all the way down other than those stupid droop screws that dig into the chassis.
Also for whoever asked
I have had no issues with the aluminum arms at all.
This truggy has been pretty good other than shock ends and clutch shoes!
I am running
50,000 front
120,000 center
stock in the rear
seems to work very well for me
Hey CR you have not called me for a race day

Hey guy's, I have a Werks P3 non-pull start with about half gallon through it and would like to stick it in my LSP. Do I have to do any mod's for this to fit and work with a starter-box, or is it a direct fit? I figure I'd see if anyone tried it before I get into it!
doesgo
04-26-2005, 10:23 PM
I just put an OFNA/Picco .26 (same as your P3 I believe) but with pullstart in my LSP with the LSP's flywheel, clutch, and clutch bell with zero problems. I imagine you'd enjoy the same trouble-free installation.

Monsterbrad
05-01-2005, 04:17 PM
Mine still spins the front tires even with the 120,000 wt in the center diff!
Also anybody know where I can get a wing mount broke my on the BMX track today.???????
Keith-OH
05-01-2005, 08:57 PM
I put 50K in my center diff to stop my front tires from blooming. That stoped them from blooming untill I installed my SH28. Now all 4 of my Panther python tires bloom. :)
vbgagnon
05-02-2005, 08:57 AM
Guys what I"m doing for the droop screws is putting a round headed screw in from the bottom. This way its not just the point digging into the chassis its the whole head of the scew.
Monsterbrad
05-02-2005, 07:33 PM
sounds good
I sheered a screw off in the diff case in the front!
Going to try to get it outa there after I get done building the new truck!
Also smashed up a rear wing mount but this truck just handles and jumps awesome.
Love it :)
Ball Racing
05-06-2005, 11:36 AM
One of the whole things of a buggy handling is the diff in center to always keep a little more on the front tires than the back, keeping it more stable , and pulling itself off corners..
Of course you see the truck tires swell more than the buggies, just because of the size of a truck tire...
I'd tape the inside of the tires to keep the ballooning down before I tried to make the back end spin the same as the front end, just to make the tires "look" equal..
Monsterbrad
05-07-2005, 02:36 AM
well spinning means no traction !!!!!!!
so I will stick to the 120,000 wt in the center
have to fix my broken wing mount and sheered screw soon in the front diff case!!!!
then back in business
got some mugen aluminum shoes and .9 springs also
going to try that
Ball Racing
05-07-2005, 08:22 PM
But if the back ain't spinning, it has traction...
These things spin the front, and keep straight...
Your finger has the control of spin....
Monsterbrad
05-08-2005, 02:44 AM

Hot Bodies Jump Start HPI Roto Start Motor Failure
I wasn't sure where to post this, so I posted it in a different thread also. I have a Hot Bodies Lightning Pro 2 that I use a Hot Bodies Jump Start on. ive seen people take a stock motor (electric onroad/offroad) and rewire it for more current with better switch, you may need to pad the engine as they are a titch shorter..
Well, my brother, friend, and I each got a Lightning Stadium RTR late last week. I pulled the engine/pipe as well as the receiver and put my own RX into it with receiver pack but I kept the stock servos. The engine I dropped into it was a rebuilt Hyper 8-port Race that I had laying around. I ran mines for the first time on Saturday late in the afternoon. After one hour of breaking in the engine and some light jumps I managed to bend both the front CVD bone and rear dogbone on the same side (right, as seen from the back of the truck) as well as breaking one of the rear shock eyelets (right as well). Other than that it's a fun little truck. The body is gawdaweful ugly but it's thick and it's cheap.
My brother got his up and running yesterday and managed to bend two shock shafts, one front CVD bone and one rear dogbone. He's a lot tougher with his stuff than I am, though. He put Mugen Bigbore shocks into his LS RTR the last I saw. He's running the stock servos, too, but he has an old OFNA brick pack in his as well as his Spektrum RX and an old almost-worn-out Top P5 in his.
Our friend is slowly getting his ready to go run with us.

The Lightning RR's are known to be bending the drive shafts due to the arm being very flexible. For the front drive shafts, you can pick up a set of Losi LST CVD bones to replace the bent ones. They fit perfectly and that's what the guys at our track have been doing. As for the rear, your out of luck cause those are kinda hard to get. Also, the shock ends take a beating and most people tend to break those unless you use the travel limiters in the arms to limit the down travel of the shocks. You can try and use Ofna lower shock mounts instead cause they are a bit stronger, or use racer's edge aluminum ones but these are expensive.

the steering knuckle, kyosho (racers edge) will fit, but honestly get some 7075 ones as the stock non pro pot metal ones suck.. pro comes with 7075..
browns has bunches of shock ends.. and you can build a rear cvd et up for around 30$ if you know what parts to get..
lst shafts and rebuild kits and a set of tsais savage cvd stubaxels.. thats listed on rc hubs tbonz section they have the stubaxels listed.. like 12$ but well worth it..

If I'm not mistaken, the hubs carriers from either the Kyosho kanai 3 or the Ofna hyper can fit with slight modifications. Most by adding or moving shims. The diff case is a different story though. Good luck.

the steering knuckle, kyosho (racers edge) will fit, but honestly get some 7075 ones as the stock non pro pot metal ones suck.. pro comes with 7075..
browns has bunches of shock ends.. and you can build a rear cvd et up for around 30$ if you know what parts to get..
lst shafts and rebuild kits and a set of tsais savage cvd stubaxels.. thats listed on rc hubs tbonz section they have the stubaxels listed.. like 12$ but well worth it..
do u know the part number?and what kind of mods we need to do?so u think i wont be having these problems when i get my pro today? ;)
i found this on ebay is this the part>? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=49213&item=5979509919&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW

1. which bodies (other than stock) fit well on the Lightening Pro (race type bodies, like a CP)..??
2. which aftermarket rims will bolt up..
3. which aftermarket tires will fit the stock rims??
thanks in advance guys...

any tmaxx/savage rim fits..
i would keep the stock tire on the stock rims.. they are kinda fragile and will crack easily so there is no reason to reuse the stock rims
jt concepts looks nice on it.. the hbforum has a section of photos to see different bodies installed though, i myself like the bronco on it.. makes it look like something that races in the desert..

yea the rtr silver ones are a cast "pot metal" for th e5$ they cost they are great.. but the pro's 7075 ones are 60-80$ kyosho ones for a k2, racers edge makes some (40ish), dynimite makes some for a gs storm (25ish) also that will work.. just make sure to get 7075 ones as the cast ones break..
Well, I decided to sell my RTR Lightning Stadium. I took the engine/manifold/pipe out as well as the receiver and radio. Now, I'm putting this stuff back in and want to sell it. Any takers? I have some aftermarket shock towers on it that are supposed to be guaranteed for life and I have a set of CVDs coming in for it, too.

CRSMP5
06-12-2005, 09:41 PM
well first off.. if thats a pull start version will not bolt right into the lsp.. the pull start is kinda big, there are 2 options, shim the engine up, or cut a hole in the chassis..
http://www.hotbodiesforum.com/ in the stadium section is a index pinned towards the top.. that should cover hop ups/design flaw fixes and so on..
with that engine i run 45wt on rear shocks, with blue springs, front 50 with stock springs
30k center, 3k rear, 7k front

Monsterbrad
06-12-2005, 10:21 PM
It depends on how small the pull start body is.
I know the 28 outa the savage 4.6 works cause thats what's in mine and this truck is great with that engine!
If the wasp has the big pull start body you will either have to change the back plate or mod the chassis and this has been done cause cr did it to fit his RB in!

the stock engine loves 270-290.. eventhough thats above reccomended temps..
direct drop in engines.. any that will fit the stock roto start.. and hyper 8 port.. hpi's k4.6 (hyper engine in design)
tops/rex/rossi/rb 28s, mach/sportwerks/sh, os rg all require mods...

thanks for the info CRS.... so what would you personally recommend to replace the stocker that... 1. most importantly, runs like a clock with minimal flame outs and 2. has at least 20% more power than stock... and 3. costs under $350....
i ran my stock engine at 220 for the first weekend... had ok low end punch, zero mid range, and absolutely zero top end... last weekend i decided to go for power even if i burnt up the stock engine... so i was running it at 270 and it made Much, Much better power.... not nuclear fast, but at least i wasn't getting run over from behind by T-4's with P-2-K's in them anymore... LOL... how long is the stock engine going to last being run the 270 range??

I think that Hot bodies should just sell the truck with no engine and take a few bucks off the price cause the stock engine is a piece of ****!
I would say go with a Mach or the HPI 28!
I like them both
For higher end engine's it just depends on what you want to do with it.
But for the Money the 2 I mentioned are great engines and will have pleanty of power!
Also the Sport werks 26 is a great choice also and is not a wallet killer either.

Monsterbrad

If I were to buy either one I would get the Sport werks!
I guess its just a little smoother than the Mach is.
The Mach is kinda on and off a little to heavy for the track I tried it and it was great but not as good as the 28 is.

hey guys... one of my LHS's has an Orion Wasp .28, slide carb, SB (?) shaft, non-pull start... will this engine fit without mods?? i already have a starter box, but can my stock starter system bolt onto this engine? or would it have to be pull start based to work?? and lastly.. is that engine worth buying, or is it a POS??
thanks guys...
Tim
CRSMP5
06-17-2005, 06:54 AM
IMO its a POS.. and yes it shoudl be a direct drop in for starter box, the only issue you will have is if its a chrome top one.. the wheel is too bg to reach the flywheel if stock mounts and flywheel is used.. a mugen mbx4 flywheel, bigger diameter, will solve this, or a set of the perty cnc motor mounts will that hb makes.. or you can machine your chassis to allow it to reach further.. but the 2 options i give i think looks nicer..

1. will the Proline 23mm Hex adaptors fix on this LSP?? seems they sell two versions, one for Maxx and one for Savage.. will either one work??
2. i love the stock tires for racing... will they fit on std size maxx rims??
lastly... a tip (more or may not have already been posted)... replace the stock front hinge pin brace with one off a Kyosho K2, or 777... they both will fit.. i used one from the 777 on mine.... if you break the stock piece, it tears up the diff housing, hinge pin, and rear/front hinge pin holder in the process... might as well replace it before you tear several parts up at the same time... (and getting a bent hinge pin out of the alum a-arms was NOT fun... LOL)...

If you run the 23mm hubs, you run the risk of breaking the end on the CVD. This is especially true if you run the 40 series rims and tires. This is a known problem and you might want to stay away from this. However, Proline just released 23mm wheels with standard maxx size with a wide offset that might lessen the breakage issue with the hubs. As far as using parts from the Kyosho buggy, if you're looking for hinge pin mounts, then you might want to check out King Headz. They make parts that fit the trucks with minimal or no modifications required. Check out www.hotbodiesforums.com for more info.

Stock shock oil still
120,000 wt center
50,000 wt front
stock in the rear which is very thin

Thick oil makes it run like a non diffed, monster.
To make use of the center diff you need somethng under 100K to make it work.
In a buggy I don't go past 10K in the center, and truggy 30K is about all I'd want.....
Monsterbrad
06-30-2005, 12:12 AM
Well when its super hot out like it is now at the local track the thick oil makes the truck run good.
Plus if you look at it this way the center diff robs power when the front wheels are spinning.
But its all preference!

Why do you think they put a center diff in????
it lets the front wheels spin faster if you want, which will center the truck better, and make it more stable,
also pulls it out the corner..
the looser the track, you want to have the front pulling more than the back to keep it from doing dounuts....

what's the power like???
I have to say I am most impressed with the 4.6 so far in this truck!

Hey MonsterBrad..
I really do like the OS engine. Great low end and I have the BLUE restrictor in it. It felt like my truggie was going to blow apart without it in and I really couldn't control it. But I was running with a MACH 26 in it, but the thing is a alcoholic and I needed better run times, so I sucked it up and got a high end .21 which I can go just about the 10min mark without pitting.
What's cool is that these OS engines takes about a gallon of Nitro to get the full affect of the engine and I am just about the 3/4 gallon mark and with every tank I feel the power coming out of this bad boy. She temps about 230 and the top end needs to be leaned more.
I may actually try to pick up another OS 21 V Spec for my MP777 buggy. But gotta sell some stuffs first..

How much are these engine's????
I am curious cause the ws7 I just got from a guy on here is junk!
I need a new engine aren't the v-spec's kinda cheap or am I thinking about another model.
I like os engine's but I would like to square off against one of these engine's with my 4.6 HPI engine!

This engine is WAY more expensive than the HPI K4.6 motor. This runs about 260.00-300.00. It has kick A$$ low end power which is PERFECT for our track here in the islands.
I have a WS7 I motor currently running in my MP777 and I am plannin on getting another OS VSPEC for the buggy. I feel this motor doesn't give me the low end that I need. Also a bit hard to tune. As the OS, the saying is...
you set it....then forget it.
As far as power wise, I currently run with the carb restrictor in it, and this thing spins tires. I think I need a Sunday of practice to get her controlled without the carb restrictor in it.
But I needed longer run time which is why I opted to go down to a high end .21. I get about 10min of run time, where as my MACH got about 6 or 7. That means I can make my "A" main 10 min race without pitting.....hopefully. Again this is a .21 and the K4.6 is a .28, so I don't think that they should be even considered in the same class, but for AWESOME low end and good top....you gotta pay the bills....3 bills at that..go with the OS. I currently have a SH.28 waiting to drop into my Truggie, but I think I'll wait a while before I drop that bad boy in.

Well I have to say that the 4.6 engine ran great today at the track!
Its faster than the ws7 thats there and it seems to run the strongest out of all the truggies!
I am happy with it for now!
Try the ofna violater tank its bigger and only takes a little bit of hand fitting to get it in there!

the sh28 is a major fuel pig.. i cannot imagine how it will run in the lsp for run times.. you will need to get a smaller back plate set up for it also as th estock is way too big for the stadium set up

Do yourself a favor and get the Collari 7 port instead of the three port. Sure it's a little more expensive, but it does put out a bit more power. I run the 7 port and it's pretty darn fast. There aren't any truggies out there where I race that pull me on the straight. They may be faster with a C5, but it's not by much. You could always do what I did, buy the 7 port instead of a C5, then with the money you save send it to RB Mods or EB mods and get it worked. I have a EB Mods Collari and it's FAST! Just got back the RB Mods one so I haven't had a chance to run it in yet. Maybe next week during practice days at our track. The work RB Mods did on the Crank, sleeve and case are pretty nuts. We'll see how it goes.

I am not saying this to piss anybody off here but modded engines are not that great from what I have seen.
Yeah they have alot of power but they are touchy for tuning and most of the time you have to run 30% nitro which for us guys that are looking for alot of use is hard on the engine.
I would say that I would not mind having a modded engine but I have heard to many bad things on them.
CR had a heavly modded engine and sold it cause he did not like it!

Modified motors are a bit harder to tune, but the power gains is well worth it. I have both a eb mods and a rb mods collari 21 and they are easy to tune. Yes they do recommend using 30% nitro, but they are well worth it. I've been running a EB mods collari for the last month or so and it's extremely easy to tune and the power is decent. The eb mods engine is a little less radical then the rb mods that I ran a few break in tanks on today. But the rb mods collari is making crazy power and it was temping only around 200 degrees. You should try calling Rick Brake of RB mods, he's a wealth of knowledge and easy to talk to. Factory racers have factory worked engines. This is the next best thing. I can't wait to run a little more through the RB mods engine then it'll be a hard decision for me. But I'm leaning toward running the RB mods engine. Hyperstang has seen my truck in action before, and he would probably say that it's pretty fast. I think I have one of the fastest trucks at our track. The tuning on modified engines is critical, but it's not too much harder to tune than a stock motor.

first off... i want to thank you guys a lot for the info you've given me... you've saved me a lot of time trying stuff for myself....
secondly... to those guys that suggested i try a Mach .26 engine... you guys were RIGHT ON..... that engine is AWESOME... i almost didn't buy it because it was so cheap... LOL... i figured it couldn't be any good... but i've got over a gallon of 30% Byrons through it, and it has run absolutely flawlessly the entire time... and on the track, i have never felt down on power to anyone... including last weekend at the Kyosho Nitro Challenge, where i made the A, and ran as high as 5th before my engine screws came loose and took out the spur.....
lastly.... i gotta give props to this truck... it's been awesome... i raced it with stock diffs (no oil added), and bone stock shocks last weekend, and it handled very well.... the truck has also been very tough for me, i've broken very few parts for the abuse it's taken.... (although getting replacements parts has been a pain)...

CRSMP5
07-13-2005, 10:22 AM
keep the 1 way and stuff from the xtm and stick it on the mach, you will find its got more balls then the 24.7 im thinking 120-130 new, ebay for less from a LST but you own all the pull start stuff due to the 24.7 that has to be used anyways.. that mod is on the other forum in the engine section..
FLYBOY7
07-13-2005, 10:44 AM
the Mach .26 i bought came with a pull start.... we took that off, and cut the little notch on the crank, and put in a new backplate... the engine is now bump start only... so it fits just fine....
Tim
badboy2
07-13-2005, 02:08 PM
can u show some pics of the backplate?cuz i have a mach 26 and i cant put it cuz the back plate is so big it makes it sits higher..so u can use starter box too?
FLYBOY7
07-13-2005, 02:52 PM
just to clarify... my engine now does not have pull start or roto start... it's bump only... and once you pull off all that extra junk, the engine is super narrow... fits in the stock engine mount easily, with zero mods required... i can't post pictures easily.... sorry.... but when to boil it down, it looks like any other engine that is bump only once done...
i had originally wanted to retain roto start with the Mach .26... but it looked like it would have been too wide if retained... others may be able to help with this problem...
i also used the stock flywheel, 3 piece alum Mugen clutch shoes, Mugen clutch springs, and Mugen 13 tooth clutch bell...

The Mach is a great engine as long as you don't get one if the newer ones!
They have been having problems
I had one in my new LST and had to send it back.
Also for a little more torque and a little more money I think you can get the k 4.6 28 with the pull start which bolts right in.
get the Nova head for it and it makes a great engine.

Got a few questions for you guys.
1st how undrivable would the lighting be if it had say a 13t pinion instead of the 10t pinion? using the 50t spur/13t cb/ and stock hb .26 engine. and 6" tall tires "stock are 5.5" tall"
2nd how does the lsp stack up to the mammoth st? I've heard great things about the st, they fixed some issues and the price OMG!! it's almost half of the lsp pro :D and it's a 2spd. "not that really matters but to some it might"
And does anyone know why the hybrid craze died out? was it because of all the manufactures taking note and making factory truggies? Or is there still some life left in the hybrid market?
CRSMP5
07-23-2005, 09:56 AM
i doubt 13t/43t would work with big tires, it works with the illegal komotos, but they are max 1/8" taller then buggy tires..
the stadium is smoother and conforms more to the track then any other "truggy" i know of.. its a long arm suspention thing..
cost is what probally killed the hybrid craze..

07-23-2005, 05:44 PM
As most of you know i like to own almost all monster trucks at one time or another.
As far as I can tell the new XTM truggy or truck with the 2 speed will not even come close to the LSP on the track.
XTM is not really geared towards the race seen as much as the LSP is so you are kinda comparing a basher truck with a racer!
Trust me if you wanna race get the LSP you will not be dissapointed at all CRS will agree with me on this one!!!!
Jackyl
07-23-2005, 05:56 PM
I just watched the xtm promo video of the mammoth st and I've seen a lsp in person on a track in a race. And the mammoth st, in the hands of a capable driver looks like it will have with an lsp. This is just what I have compiled so far. The biggest thing with the lsp is the cost. Why spend twice as much on the lsp when I can spend half that and get a mammoth st? and single speed vs 2spd. come on :D in the infield technicalls it will not be a big deal but on the straights good bye! on the track that I race on there is a dirt oval around the inner portion which is the off road track, but the offroad track uses half of the dirt oval straights for the offroad straightaway.
Monsterbrad
07-23-2005, 11:18 PM
The price thing I can see where you are comming from and long straights I can see where you are comming from there too!
But Look at the durability issues with the 2 speed plastic tranny gears that could come up when running the XTM truck.
Don't get me wrong here I do like the looks of the XTM st but I just am not buying the fact that it will race as good as the LSP does!
Then again it could depend on the driver also

why do 1/8th scale buggies have 1 speed? ill let this question go for a few days then answere it if no one gets it..
Jackyl
07-24-2005, 02:20 AM
Why not just post the answer?
But I'll give it a shot.
1) single speed is easier to work on
2) single speed usually is a metal gear while 2spd's that are metal are upwards of 95-120bucks for the assemblies.
3) With a single speed you get more top end by using a engine that has a mad rpm limit, the higher the rev the faster you go. gearing also plays into this but not as much as with a 2spd.
4) If you gear a single speed well and use a high rpm motor you will lead a dual speed vehicle off the line, through the technicals and fall short on at the middle and end of the straight away's
5) Single speed has been the norm for so long people are just lazy to question it or motivate the companies to move onto 3spd's and 4spd's or radios that have a clutch trigger. Show some HiluX Luv guys
6) a 3spd like what the gigacrusher has in a buggy would cost to much :D
CRSMP5, don't you post on hotbodiesforum ? So what is the answer?
CRSMP5
07-24-2005, 07:18 AM
im a mod/founder of the hbforum.. clayton put it together, but only cause of my knowledge on the hb lightning series.. till it was up he never knew what i knew on the platforum till my first 50-100posts of just tech know how stuff.. im glad he got it together.. of corse though that costed me the mod job/my acct on central as that owner hates Clayton and looks fo rways to toy with him and so one when all Clayton is doing is answering questions to people who buy his products.. i still dislike the natzi owner of central and am glad i left the regiment...
i want to see if anyone else can get it, but nope, ya missed why they have kept single speed.. all i can think to help with the question is, racing has all to do with it..
ofna 2 speed with plastic gears is 100-150 also.. yes i own one, yes i had it installed in my original lightning truggy i built 3 months before the stadium ad appeared in the rc driver mag..
Monsterbrad
07-24-2005, 03:04 PM
The expense of the 2 speed and the durability thing would make me stay away from it unless it was internal cause a race truck takes a hell of a beating and buggies are even worse.
Jackyl
07-24-2005, 03:33 PM
crsmp5, I like hbforums man, good work, and clayton is a cool cat in my book!
Those were my ideas on why they use a single speed. please pm me so I know the answer :D
Also, I had savage suspension on my hb lightning RR way before the lighting was even talking about on anysites or boards that I went to. scubasteve from maxxtracks was the first that I know of to do it and he helped me with my conversion. Then I later moved onto using the lsp chassis with my lighting guts. But I then put the lightning back to buggy form and sold it. My biggest gripe is I coudln't get the suspension travel that I needed, even the lsp arms to to short and the bulkhead design isn't designed to give suspension travel. So I just stuck with my savage.
What the darn answer :D

q1 was me, a revo with a rb 23, and the track owners supermax with a hot modded tops 28 8 port.. the sm broke like normal, and i almost lapped the revo.. BUT the best was the 2nd qualifier.. its line up, 2 almost bone stock LSPs, engine/electronics stock, one with stock wheels (daves) and a savage with tt LCG EXT tvps with a eb modded 28 8 port, and a different sm with a eb modded 28 8 port.. the SM broke.. me, the 23revo, and the 2 other LSPs, someone was standing in my normal spot, so could not hit the 2nd table top to save my arss.. as im waitign to be marsheled the 1st time today, dave gets infront of me.. the race is ON!! i catch up to him.. we are hitting jumps and stuff side by side and so on.. i land on him at the 2nd table top, killing his engine, knocking a tie rod off, and his airfilter.. LOL.. so im back in the lead.. we are running, im flying, down the straight i go, hit its little kink.. THUD!!!! the other LSP i nail head on dead nuts bumper to bumper.. LOL.. kill his engine in his.. i keep going.. i almost lap revo again.. LOL..

With the 2 speed of the xtm rig can you set brake bais? That would be a big thing, also its not like you have a tach in your radio telling you when to shift. I'll stick to my single speed Thanks.
I've put my lsp (with 24.7) against a monster gt(sh .28 17t cb ) and we had the same take off, now because I had a 13 tooth cb i couldn't keep up in the straight. Now I have my sh .28 with a 15 tooth cb and I can out run a rb modded P5 in a prospec. And my sh isn't the best of the best, throw in a eb mod TOP .28 8 port and there is no telling what this truck would do!
Sorry XTM guys I'll take my lsp anyday, 2 speed or not!

look at the pro1 instructions as they are close, the pro2 has radio set up, and as we know the stadium ones blow chunks.. then all ya have to guess on is bumpers prettymuch.. the 3.5mm ones are the pain to get/find and no one makes them machined in that size..
VB i got rid of my eb modded 28 8 port.. yea it would make it wheelie, but ive found a detuned engine works best on teh tracks i run.. current, rb tm728 with a old duratrach 051 pipe seems to be killer

thx crsmp5,
How are the lightning stadium arms and compoents holding up to the abuse the savage can dish out? I like the simplicity but I think those arms are shorter than the savage arms and they don't look as beefy. I've also see them flex like crazy. But the no tie rods in the read would be nice, But I remember with my lighting buggy the front end uprights and knuckles would always break when I really started to pound on the thing. Did you use the savage driveshafts in the rear? I would imagine you used the lighting stadium's cvd's in the front?

shorter... LOL.. i think not (adds about 1/4" to both sides, but the hingpin i sright behind the wheel at a maximum leverage point).. i have someone creating a arm specifically for this.. so far they have lasted ok on it.. i do have a parts list in the LCG racing section of savageracer... in that section you will also find a part made by PB for LST shock conversion to get rid of the rear tie rods too.. ;) its my and PB's section..

hey guys... i've blown at 2 spurs in 2 weeks... when it goes, it rips the teeth off the spur (they aren't rounded off at the tops).... it usually rips about 3-5 teeth off in row...
no, the motor screws did not come loose... no, the clutchbell bearings were fine....
is this a chassis flex issue??? fixes??? common problem here???
thanks guys...

You need to make sure your mesh is no bigger then 4 to 5 thousands!
Take a piece of paper and run it in the mesh then tighten down you screw with loc tite on them.
Also there are posts back many pages that show revo rods and the carbon fiber mods to get rid of that nasty chassis flex.
Jeff the guy I race with has been racing his with no rods for support at all and has had no issues with gearing at all.
Just radio failure and a collision with his house destroying the truggy completely oops

I'm not sure what's going on there, but I haven't seen any racers where I live eating spurs like you've been mentioning. Are you sure when you mount the spur to the diff case that 4 screws are torqued the same or very near the same? Also, before putting the engine back in, have you tried to spin the center diff to make sure everything is spinning true without any binding? I've lost a few clutch bell screws before while running and usually it results in the clutchbell getting eaten, not the center diff gear. Also, make sure that the lower and upper center diff mount screws are tight too.
Are you landing hard? Banging things? Also, what engine are you running? One more, what center diff oil are you using? These all could be contributing to the problems you are having.

this sounds real real bad.. never seen it, heard of it, or anything else.. i ran mine for a long time with no extra bracign with no issues also.. the cf photos are the ones im testing still, but i have never seen them eat teeth off at all.. not even the buggy.. shoot the one buggy is over 2 years old on the original spur..

I've heard of spurs being eatin that's why I braced my LSP up. But it's only been hearsay. If all else fails look into bracing the front diff case to the center diff mounts. If you still have the problem maybe you can buy the set-up Skinny put on his in R/C Car mag. I don't have the article here but I can give you a reference to it when I get home.

check all the bolts that go up through the bottom of the chassis and make sure that none of them are bent at all.
Braces really help too

thanks for the info guys... all my running gear is fine... Except, i found out my chassis is tweaked... it isn't bent so much as being slightly twisted... not much, but enough to f' things up for the spur...
btw.... i just put on the plastic A-arms... and i bent two front CVD bones racing last weekend... those plastic arms flex like Crazy.... LOL.... i think i'm going back to the metal arms, at least in front...
thanks again guys...

Alot of racers where I race who run plastic arms bend tons of bones. Going to just the fronts should solve the problem, but might make the front of your truck a bit heavier and change the balance front to rear of the truck. Might be better to change all the arms back to aluminum or you may have to redo your ride heights using the shock spacers. Good luck
