It's a small block 21, supposedly twice the power of the 2.5. One of the guys at my LHS has one and says it's a really great engine, cant keep the front wheels down.

I'm just waiting for the starter batt to charge, and i'm going to go break it in. I'll post when im back.

Anyone else run this engine? What are your thoughts?

Got three tanks through, gonna run more tomorrow, seems really powerful so far.

Are you using the stock Tmaxx clutch, if not what are you running? Are you breaking it in with the Tmaxx pipe or using something else? Have you upgraded any of the drivetrain? Sorry about the questions, but I'm interested in doing the same thing with my Maxx, this engine is only slightly more expensive than the FR18, OS18 and Sirio18. Big help to keep us posted on how its going. Have heard some complaints about being picky to tune??

Thanks!!

I also have the Picco P2(Ofna version) in my Maxx.
A very nice motor. Try the McCoy Mc-8 plug(medium), the Mc-9(cold) didn't want to tune too well. Go rich! Resist leaning out. You will have to richen to maintain a proper temp-I'm running at 7 turns out(approx) on the hsn.
Stock clutch works fine. I run a RRP slipper(although 12 pegs stock slipper works fine). Stock gearing works great also(but it has the power to go as high as you want). I built my rear diff & run rear cvd's only-the rest of the drivetrain is stock. The front bearing also weeps(many have complained of this) leaving my chassis dirty.
I'm using the THS 2.5 pipe & MS filter, which doesn't seem to be holding my P2 back.
My P2 Maxx shreds and has plenty of low & top power-revs really well.
Enjoy! :D

My tranny and drivetrain is completely stock, and like maxxamillion, i run the THS pipe which I was using for my 2.5 before I got this engine. I only have 3 tanks though this engine so far, it's raining now and i was looking forward to running it today...I'm going out to drive if it lets up a little.

Duster, I was inches from buying the Sirio .18, but my LHS recommended this one, and i've gotten some really great advice from them, so I got this. Hopefully the rain will let up so I can drive some more.

The Sirio P2 is a rock solid engine that does perform , I'm looking at the .23 thats a med. block thatll drop into the maxx also, RED

Got 7th and 8th tanks through. I'm very dissapointed with it right now. If i give it a quick blip of gas or bring it to full throttle, it will rev normally for a second, then the RPMs will skyrocket and then the engine stalls. It's the feeling you get when you run out of gas, but i'm not out of gas and i changed all my fuel lines incase of a leak. I don't know what the heck is wrong right now. I've richened, i've leaned, i've done whatever i could think of to get it working. No luck. It also runs pretty erratically. Even the TRX 2.5 was easier to tune than this.

Any suggestions? I'm taking it down to my LHS, one of the guys there has the engine and will probably be able to help me out.

Sounds like a couple of things like your motor is starving for fuel either threw a air leak or fuel blockage that could be in the filter , carb. inlet, seal between the carb. and intake manifold, RED

Early(1st batch that I know of) OFNA Max .21 P2 motors had a recall going on them. They had an air leak going on in the backplate. All the recall motors would run erratically. It was mostly on the EZ start P2's, not the pull starts.
If yours is one of these send it to Ofna & they will fix it & return it asap(within a week for me). http://www.ofna.com/recall.html (http://)

Yeah I read that and was too lazy to pull the engine off and look at the backplate.

I do remember NOT putting in both O rings for the carb on those two little metal pieces that hold the carb down. One was broken so there's only one on there. That would be my problem? Where can i get a similar sized O ring? Do they sell that assembly package with those o-rings in them?

I guess that could do it. I lubed those o rings cause they don't slide dry...
Maybe your lhs has a o ring selection to choose from.

I also just took off the EZ Start to look at the backplate, looked fine, but then when i put it back together i realized that they compare the INSIDE of the backplate....I'll look tomorrow, lol.

I could be the slipper slipping. Did you check the tightness of the nut?

Well I would take care of those carb. seals first, Traxxas does sell kits that come with all the seals plus extras and try using some O2 sealer between the carb. and intake manifold for a good air tight seal, RED

Your engine is doing what my P2 did. Pull the HSN and LSN out and check all the o-rings. More than likely, at least one of them on each needle is torn or cut, which is probably the culprit. I replaced all of mine (which were ripped), and lubed them with Associated Green Slime, and all is well now! Good luck! :)
