Here is a small shot of MIA's House FLY , 12 inch rotor sub micro heli.
I designed this helicopter to this particular sub micro size so that I could turn a living room into a private flying field. The House FLY series of helicopters can be categorized as Indoor/BackYard Fliers.
On this note MIA's House FLY Series of sub-micro helis will be released soon. Look for more info on the first kit of this series in microFLIGHT upcoming issues and flying model magazines.

MIA DesignsHouse FLY Manufacturer Suggested RC Equipment:
If you are on a budget:
* GWS R-4P 4-Channel Receiver
(note this is the one with vertical plug, the one with horizontal plugs is heavier)
* 2) GWS ICS 50E (No Cutoff)
* 2) Picco BB Servos
* 1) Cirrus (GWS) MPG-10 Micro Piezo Gyro
If you are willing to spend more money for Higher Precision electronics:
Use Castle Creations Pixie 7P (Programmable)
ESC's these have higher resolution and have greater number of throttle steps for very smooth throttle response. I have used Castle Creations ESC since I started designing Micro helis starting with the Pixe 14.
Motor:
* 1) GWS IPS Grey End Bell Motor
* 1) N20 Tail
Gears:
MIA Aluminum Pinions and Delrin Spur Gears. 1 set for tail, 1 set for the main rotors.
Note: MIA Alum Gears have become a standard Item in MIA's Micro Heli Kits as well as Hornet and Piccolo retrofits because they are aluminum and lighter than other metal gears on the market. They are easy to install.
Blades:
While using mostly GWS parts in our House FLY prototypes, it was very attractive to try GWS Orange props, these were tried modified from two props, cut and each single blade left with the hub for mounting on a rotor head but unfortunately were way too heavy and with too much camber for our small helicopter application. Even after thinning the plastic and drilling lightening holes the camber was just too much for the House FLY prototypes.
We manufacture our own blades designed specifically for the House FLY in plastic, for simplicity and cost effective reasons. Carbon blades is a good alternative if you want to spiff up your House FLY. There are smaller companies and independent sources attempting making blades for micro helicopters, some are successful some are not.
The key with our blade has been, numerous test with various blade designs to see which particular one works best with the Heli dimensions,parameters and equipment specified and fine tune it using lab test equipment.
It is not hard to make blades at the House FLY scale, especially for DIY projects, these can be done from various types of materials, but they must be fine tune to operate within a window of operation. This takes into account overall weight, equipment and power unit and it will vary depending if the House FLY was built from plans or Kit.
If purchasing the Kit suggest that you stay within the suggested RC equipment recommendation and use original parts or approved replacements only.
GWS RECEIVER CAUTION!
The GWS receiver antenna insulating plastic has a tendency to slip off the metal wire, this will leave the wire exposed around the receiver printed circuit board and will cause it to touch other components causing serious glitches. This is more apparent if you cut the antenna wire shorter.
Suggestion:
Reinforce with a bead of silicon caulk around the antenna connection to the printed board for trouble free operation.

awsome
are they good helicopters to learn on? how much will they cost (I need to know how much money to stash away till they're available) what kind of flight times do they get?

I will folow up with a release date and a more definite price and specs but around $150 kit it is a Sub micro heli so you can train indoors confortably. Figure another $150 in a 4 channel transmitter with micro RX, micro servos, 2 speed controls and a micro gyro.

Mario

looks like a flybarless rotor head. Is it also cp? If not is there a cp upgrade?

Yes, the new HF is Flybarless designed for both FP and CP heads. Both will be offered but CP will most likely be the upgrade.

The new House FLY targeted to be released September
This is a sub-micro ultra-light-weight heli with CCPM and Flybarless features. The first ever commercially offered sub micro heli of this kind.
Not sure if the photos do the ccpm features justice but this set up is extremley smooth as can be seen in the knife edge rotor disk. This heli offers a higher dynamic flying range at the cost of a little extra weight for the third servo and 5th channel receiver required for 120 degree CCPM (Cyclic Collective Pitch Mixing). It requires a CCPM tranmitter Like a a JR652 or a Hitec Eclipse 7.
