The first flying meeting of the newly forming and as yet unnamed indoor/outdoor electric R/C/freeflight club was held last Tuesday at the Whittier Christian Church/School gymnasium, 8155 S. Painter St., Whittier, CA. ( 2 blocks north of Whittier Blvd) The next flying session is tentatively scheduled for May 28th at 7:00 PM same place. The club president/organizer and flying site solicitor is Mr Jeffery Park. Club officers have been elected and NIRAC and AMA sanctions are being obtained. It appears that annual dues will be $10-$20 per year and all members must be AMA members for liability insurance. Jeff is developing a club website

The Church/School gym is only a temporary site and will be available on a very infrequent basis. Attempts are being made to obtain use of one of the Tustin LTA hangars but this may take many months We need a number of alternate indoor and outdoor sites to be able to hopefully meet and fly on a weekly or even more frequent basis.

First Flying Session.: About 20 people showed up, many carrying newly assembled red Litesticks , some IFO’s, Ellipsticks, and even electric, rubber and CO2 free-flight models . After a lengthy organization meeting, everybody was anxious to try flying indoors for their first time. There were times when four Litesticks were flying at the same time and often in different directions. It looked like a WW I scene from Howard Hughes “Hell’s Angels” Almost everyone took their Litesticks home in a number of pieces. I suggested the club name “Jeffrey’s Wallbangers”, but the final name will probably be something more dignified. Everybody had a great time and took the opening night carnage in stride. My own Litestick is much improved now with stronger wing , battery and landing gear mounting, a king-post and monofilament “flying wires” that control wing dihedral as well as tip wash-out. One of the flyers, the president of a heli-club, put on spell-binding aerobatic flight demonstrations with a 280-powered IFO sporting travelling LED lights underneath. Everyone had an exciting and laugh inducing good time. The next flying session will probably be more sedate and controlled. We expect membership to grow rapidly as more flying sites are obtained. Flying will not be restricted to R/C but may include electric, rubber and CO2 planes and both indoor and outdoor.

If you have solid ideas on flying sites or know someone who can provide, or potentially obtain, even temporary indoor/outdoor sites in the Orange County and nearby LA areas , please contact Jeff Park by email at compboywonder@hotmail.com

To join, contact Jeff by e-mail same address.

Ahhh now it works - strange thing the internet.

Great pictures, I particularly like the use of a spare elevator piece at the tail of the canard litestik! An idea I'm sure to steal in the future!

Shame about the causalties - that's the danger of flying indoors though I guess!

Thanks for the pics,
Al

How did the facetmobile fly? I'm keen on getting one of those someday...

Allen,

Unfortunatly the Facetmobile did not fly. It has not been test flown so the owner did not want to risk the plane indoors. As for the casualty! The plane in pieces is unfortunatly mine. Not a big deal though... The wing is the only thing that took the damage and that was built using scrap wood and covered using Reynolds food wrap. I think I'll build a new wing and design some undercamber in it... After seeing the Ikarus Demoiselle fly I want it to fly slower...
