Hello!I'm thinking about buying a Truck...My first Nitro Monster Truck...I was thinking about a truck with a good, stronger but simple motor...My two choices are Savage 21 and Thunder Tiger Ek4 S2...The Savage is a pretty good looking car, with good suspension, a good motor but with a Pull start. The only problem about this truck is the motor pull start because if i broke it, it will be almost impossible to buy a new one since i live in an island in Portugal...The Thunder Tiger EK4 S2 is a good looking car too, with good suspensions, shaft start, and a powerfull but simple Pro 70Bx motor...I have a plane with a Thunder Tiger motor, and the motor is very good...I think the EK4 is perfect for my situation...But i heard it will consume so much more Gasoline than the Savage...Where i live i can only buy 16%nitro meccafuel or 25%nitro meccafuel...What's the best motor for this type of Gasoline...The price of the two trucks is the same 375£...Help me...What's the best Truck for me???

One thing that can be a major factor in your decision would be finding replacement parts. I am not familiar with the European market, so I don't know how easy it is to find parts for either truck.
For what it's worth, the Savage .21 is no longer being made. They now have the Savage .25 and the Savage SS, which is the kit version. However, if you find a new in box Savage .21, it's a good truck, though the engine uses three needles (high, mid range, low) and can be a bit tricky to tune.

I like very much the savage but i'm still a rocky in Nitro Monster Trucks...I want a durable truck with a good engine...A car with no stock problems since i can't buy spare parts...The savage 21 is just enough for me, it has a difficult motor to tune, and i heard the break in is a bit complicated...But i can deal with that...my worrys are the pull start and the fuel...i simply can't get a new pull start if i broke the stock one...WiLL it broke with so easy??And the fuel is another problem...like i said i only can get 16% or 25% Meccafuel...What's the best motor for this type of fuel???One thing i forgot to post:The Trucks are both the RTR versions...I Want a truck to run in roads and in the woods..A car with good handling, power, and the most important thing for me, a car that can jump very well and land in safety...GIVE ME SOME SITES OR FORUMS WITH THESE TRUCKS SPECIFICATIONS so i can compare these great trucks by my self...

I'd definately get the savage over the ek4. The new savage 25 has a rotostart (shaft start), doesn't use as much fuel as the ek4, is THE most durable monster truck there is, and has an awesome suspension with 7 inch shocks. The EK4 has a crappy suspension and is not near as durable as the savage. It may have a bigger engine, but it will suck down the fuel. If you want to see them go to http://www.hpiracing.com/kits/savage25/savage25-m.htm to see the savage and go to http://www.acehobby.com/acehobby/products/car/ek4/index.html to see the ek-4.

I'm not thinking about buying the savage 25...It's more 55£ than the Ek4...The EK4 and the savage 21 have the same price...My only worry about the savage is the pull start...Will it broke so easely???will Savage 21 run well with meccafuel 25%nitro???The Ek4 Will...

then hang on and save the extra cash. theres no point buying a smaller one as u will only want to go bigger later.
or get the ss and save for whatever engine u want.

maybe look into a tamiya tnx it is supposed to be a durable truck and the engine is smaller so it would use less fuel and is said to be a great engine that is easy to tune

i havnt seen EK4 but ive seen savage and recently my friend ( who has this savage) was happy that after 15 minutes of running he still had diff gears, also he bent alloy shock towers in a rollover, for sure i wouldnt say its most durable out there

Jorge, a pull start will give you far less trouble than a Roto Start will. The Savage RTR Roto Start can cause problems with the one-way bearing. The Savage SS (kit) comes with a pull start on the motor. It's one of the best pull starts I've ever used and will last well as long as you don't pull the cord out as if it's a lawn mower engine or keep pulling on it when the engine floods. Any pull start will break if you don't use it properly, but in my opinion they are much better than a Roto Start.

heh. If the diff is stock and you do a lot of donuts, it won't last very long. Even so, it still outlasts the diffs in a Maxx. Using your friend's bent alloy shock tower as an example of lack of durability isn't at all accurate. The stock shock towers are composite for a reason. It's a monster truck for cryin' out loud and a heavy one at that. Composite plastic bends back. Aluminum shock towers on a monster truck are for bling bling show queens, not bashers or racers.

Well I just noticed this thread and even though you said you are getting a heli I'm going to post as this may help someone else out there some day.
The EK4 is a very good truck - IF you are willing to invest some time into it. Out of the box you pretty much have to rip them apart and double check everything on them. You need to make sure that your diffs are shimmed gorrectly or else you won't get much run time from them. The motor does drink the nitro, but keep in mind it is a .70 sized motor where a Savage is a .21 (or .25) and the TNX is a small block .18!
I wouldn't recommend the EK4 to someone unless they have some experience with nitro and are confidant in reading through the correct EK4 forum... this is a great forum but you need to go to www.midmad.com and read the forums there. Midnight Madness is where ALL the EK4 info is.
The Savage is a pretty good truck, I thought about buying one for some time... untill I used my firend's... he has a Savage SS and I really didn't like it. That's just my opinion though... that's why there are different truck... for different people.
Thanks for reading.

Savage 25 all the way. It's worth the extra money over the Savage 21. Besides, they discountinued the Savage 21.

I recently found that they still make the Savage .21 for the European market. Why, I do not know, as it's the same price or more expensive than the .25 RTR. Tower recently re-listed the .21 with a note under the price that they're short on supply. Either they found a bunch of them buried in their warehouse or they are testing the waters to see if they'll sell in the US again. What a waste. Stupid 3-needle engines are a royal pain.

Hello all,
For those who bad mouth my truck please get more experience with this truck before making any calls on it.
I want to first say that judging by your questions you are more in line with a savage. If you are looking for a truck to pull of the box and just get going the savage is great. But it is a truck that you will see all of the time. The EK4 is very unique. This also means parts aren't typically easy to come by. This is not a issue in my area but to each thier own.
The Ek4 does require more work right off the bat. However once you get your EK4 right nothing and I mean nothing comes close to it! You will almost never come across a person running the same rig as you.The Ek4 is a truck that when you start it up everyone on the track looks at it. Also no matter what anyone drops on the track or in the field you can be sure that the EK4 will always have power and torque advantages that are in most cased double or even triple in small block comparisons!
It does guzzle the fuel but in my area the heli fuel is alot cheaper per gallon then the car fuels so it all works out for me. I find that I have never met a person complain on how much fuel thier muscle car drinks! LOL! the EK4 is all about brute power output. plus with the Ek4 it is a ringed motor so you have more then three times the live on the motor if properly ran! This is not a racing truck so the suspension is decent it's no revo by any stretch. but who needs suspension when all you have to do nail the throttle and the truck is so over powered it will simply through it'self over any obsticle! it is the tazmanian devil of all RC monster trucks LOL! It's not always pretty but it is very effective for those who can enjoy it. The EK4 is not for everybody but it really fits us guys that it is for. So I will agree go for the savage they are great trucks with a large following. Maybe later you can be swayed to come over to the darkside! MMMMUUUUHAHAHA!

dont be silly, get the truck, you'll have more fun.

I run the stock rims and tires on my EK4 and the savage .25's can pull better lap times on the track but in a drag race it isn't even close. Once the EK4 jumps off of the line it continues to get worse even when second kicks in. But of course with the motor size difference it should. I even eat alot of buggys up in a straight drag race! Keep in mind the top speed is very simular to the .25 Savage but it get's there alot quicker. As you know these trucks really fly by any standards.

Great forum guys. I've got an XTM buggy, and I'm in the process of turning it into a Truggy. My guy feeling is by the time I have the wheels/tires/body set the motor will die.
Given that, I keep thinkin the TTR .70 would be a good replacement motor. I also like the idea of the errrr CEN .46? Think I have the brand name wrong. Anyway I like the idea of a big ringed motor like the .70.
Have you guys seen this motor in other vehicles?
