I plan to run hpi mini, on either 12 cells and 4wd or 18 cells and 2wd. I'd run a can with neo magnets and maybe a 8 turn arm. The crazy part will be trying to drive the thing. I plan to run a van body to accomodate the extra cells.

I'm trying to get ideas on how to make it a bit more stable, as 18 cells and a hot motor could potentially go into the triple digits.

Either way, its gonna be a wild ride.

yeah, just make cut outs i nthe body, and use like samll hose or something and direct the hose towards the body.

Not with a van body you don't. With those aerodynamics, it wouldn't come close. You need a different body, both for stability and aerodynamics

Man, with that much power, i KNOW there is no 1/18 drivetrain that could handle that much power..

your not crazy i had the same idea
what i did was custom create a chassie that steched it about 2 inches
now i am working on putting a D6 6 turn motor on it and running 14-36 sud c size cells (depends on $)
i need a body to fit
anyoe think im crazy

would it be a micro or a mini Rs4?

there is not a lot of room in the Mini for so much cells.
I tried the car in 2wd set up and it's impossible to handle it with rubber tires.
You can however put all the rear bulkhead motor mount in the opposite direction and then having the motor behind the rear wheels, you would have enough room to put 14 cells at least (2x 7cells hump packs)

I think the most areodynamic body you can use is the one for the mini yokomo TC. that with some dish rims should give great areodynamics

It would be a mini not a micro. I'm trying to keep cost down by using something I've already got. The miata body would be the most aerodynamic, but I just checked, and with the van body I can fit another rear end on the front. I have 2 mini's so parts aren't a problem. Hmmm... 2 6 turn motors on 12 cells each sounds like fun. I'd just have to figure out the steering. I should get the rc touring cars issue where that did the fwd dragger, since they had the same steering problem. I'll be running 1/10 rubber.

Oh yeah, I am doing this for fun. I know I wont win running something like this. Thats why I dont care whether the van body has the aerodynamics of a warm brick. Hell, I'd run a school bus on spinners if they made one in mini size. Although I am debating on whether to run the Suzuki Wagon R van or the Mercedes A-class van. I think I will run the suzuki since most people have never seen one. I'll check later to see if the 2 motor setup would clear the civic body, in case i wanna make a real run.

kartrun,

mine would be a micro and if it went up in smoke i would have fun fixing it

i kinda hoping that i go fast enought for it to literally disinigrate into a million peices
ill be sure to video tape it

Well I live in nor cal, so its not much of a trip to socal. Which is pretty much why I'm willing to make such a willy-nilly type of entry. If I was much farther I wouldn't be doing it since it would cost too much for it to be just for fun.

Both transmissions are on so far, I need to make a custom upper deck and figure out the steering. Everything fits with plenty of room under the Suzuki body.

If you want; Fibre Lyte (UK) still has the plan of the conversion I've made where the servo sits on the chassis and not on the upper deck...PM if interested (I have also a spare chassis I'm not using but not the top deck)
Cheers.

here are some pics of a Mini dragster project, it was not made with an HPI Mini but dimensions are the same (from the videos it didn't work that well, it was difficult to keep it going straight)

you can do the same with Mini, as I said earlier, if you flip back al the rear tranny yo can make a decent RWD car, then if you can also cut a custom chassis to fit the cells it would be perfect (I can draw it for you for free but then you woud have to pay Fibre Lyte to cut the carbon...)

Update on the madness. Each motor will drive 2 wheels.

looks like a very interesting conversion you got goin on there...

Where did you get the wagon rr body from? I've been looking for one and cant seem to find any...

It came with a NIB mini pro I bought off of ebay. Never seen any others. Although if you want to have a rarity, this or the Honda Life body is the way to go.

This car looks like a lot of fun. Have you considered adding a belt to tie the front and rear assemblies together?
