What do you think, guys? Nice looking airplane, huh?

I don't get it. Thought I was following the directions and this is what I came up with.
Every time I hit the "upload" button, I get a prompt saying "Only JPG and GIF files please". Aren't these JPG files?

I guess if you're interested in seeing my plane send me an e-mail and I'll e-mail you some photos!

Sorry, Jim

Hey Jim....

Just thought I'd share this with you. My name is Jim as well and I just happen to be a few days away from finishing my Tiny!

I'm building mine with a V-tail and the motor and other parts recommended by the kit so no, I'm not your clone.......

Happy flying!!

jimwalker,

Thanks for the reply. I just tried to e-mail you and got my message returned. New e-mail adress? Wasn't important, just wondering if your's had flown yet.

Your great Tiny photos have inspired me to get one. Posting here is still a bit tricky for me but I will keep trying.

Just days away of finishing my 2nd one, which will come out at 4.5 oz instead of 5.5. Need to get a few parts

Yes, I do have a new email address. For anyone who's interested, it's

ajwalker@zianet.com

AOL was just too much of a hassle. Thanks for trying to email me though. As for my tiny, it's all done except for the battery pack, servos and linkages. I'm waiting on some 5.4g pico servos from Balsa Products and some NIMH batteries from TNR. Projected weight with 9, 3.3g 120mah Nimh's and the pico servos is 4.8 ounces or 137 grams. It should fly well.

Happy flying

Oh man, that's too bad Jim. I hope you got a few hours of flying time before the crash. Looks like all the hardware came through unscathed at least.

Actually Chris, I had about 75 flights or so on the Tiny when it happened (A freak gust of wind came out of nowhere and guided it into a small tree. That's my story and I'm sticking to it :D ). I am re-building it and it will be flying again soon. Hopefully the wind will stop soon also.

Did you make the landing gear, or is that from a kit? looks nice.

Jim
07-16-2001, 11:30 PM
JJ,

I did make the landing gear; originally without the curved arch in the center, but after taxiing more than about 3 feet the gear legs would splay outward until the wheels almost touched the wings :( !

I used .047" (?) wire to save weight, but I'm guessing the total weight after adding the arch was greater than it would have been had I just used 1/16" wire from the beginning.

Thanks for the compliment!

Jim, that tiny is repairable! I was amazed how easy it was for me to scratch up the broken rib I had and get mine back together. Go for it!

Miniman, they're available for free download in the downloadable plans section of this site. It's one of the two planes you don't need to be a member to download.

Hi,
You need to share a little more info. Like, what motor/drive system, what size battery & how many cells, and what style of flying you have in mind.
Cheers, Dave Robelen

Hey Guys,
I've been unssuccessful in printing the TINY plans I downloaded from the web.

Anyone know where I could buy a copy of the plans?

I'd even settle for a faxed copy of a the ribs Fax: 916-536-1921

I just completed a Duskstik and really enjoyed the simplistic and inexpensive approach to carbon fiber and stick building.

http://www.users.qwest.net/~mkaren4/duskstik.html

I was going to scale the TINY up a bit so I could use the EPU-6 motor GWS DXA and 5.9:1 gearbox with the 10x4.7 prop. The Duskstik weighed in at 8.0 oz flyable.

Any help with the TINY, plans, etc would be greatly appreciated.

I can't help you with the plans, but the Tiny doesn't need to be scaled up to run on DX-A powerplant. It goes great on a GWS 9x7 prop and the DX-A exactly as it is drawn. Just fasten a small bit of spurce on the front of the CF tube to mount the GWS drive onto.

what is spurce? because it isned even in the dictionary.

Hi Hollowman,
I bet that is meant to be spruce, a tough stringy wood that is popular for model work. Many hobby shops carry spruce in sticks. The GWS pwer unit has a rectangular hole that is meant to be pressed on the body stick. A 3/16" X3/8" spruce stick only needs a little trimming to fit into the motor unit. The back of the spruce can be notched to fit together with the round tube that forms the main body. I would overlap the carbon tube at least 1/2" with the spruce when joining. And again, wrapping the joint and soaking with glue is a good idea.
Cheers, Dave Robelen

everybody is using CF tubes but i cant find any in my local hobby shops and nor in craft store so i asked my hobby store owner and he gave me an aluminum pipe, but i dont know if its light enough. So what do ya say is it light enough?

Hollowman You might try a sporting goods shop. They use CF rods for making arrows. I'm not sure if that will help but its worth a shot, give them a call. Good Luck

Hi Hollowman,
The aluminum and arrow shafts are a good bit heavier than the desig calls for. As for dealers, Dave Lewis www.homefly.com, and Tod Long www.toddsmodels carry the light carbon tubes. If you ca find a kite store they also generally have the thin wall tubing.
