By the way, whose belted x-patterns are you talking about? HPI?
Ron - You plan on coming up to this track? I might bring my 1/12 or maybe the BRP up there?

Wes, the x-patterns are from HPI. You know, I still really never figured out why we have all these seperate threads for tracks in NC. When we had the Tarheel state thread we could talk about EVERYTHING all in one place and never had to jump back and forth between threads looking for answers. Oh well, that was a long time ago and what do I know. Brad

Sorry Brad, had to do it. Anyhow, don't know when I'll get there, maybe next week. Of course, tomorrow, you know where I'll be.

10-22-2004, 10:34 AM
Thanks Brad. I'm going to have to get a set of those I guess. All I have right now are some proline factory mounted lp slicks. I wasn't sure who made xpattern sedan tires, as X pattern makes me think of some Losi OR tires from the early 90s. :) Wes

10-22-2004, 10:39 AM
I do know that Hungate's in Cary does stock the x pattern HPI tires both hard and soft compounds....... which should I get? I still would rather race Mini T but hey if 1/10 is in I could just do that.
And yes I will be there tonight at 9:30ish, have to go to work tonight. I am scheduled for next Friday but I will ask to no longer work on Friday nights. I can probably switch with somebody next Friday so I could race then, not sure. Find out on Monday when my department manager gets back.
I am 100% serious about racing Mini T. Get the one that the track owns with the hop ups and drive it around the track, its perfect. You can get a groove going with it, something I couldn't get with 1/10 scale. Plus there are no walls on the outside of the track yet and 1/10 scale cars doing "battle" could get interesting!
I'll get those pics up in a few hours need to use a different machine with a particular port on it for my camera.
So if anybody is going to be there tonight around 9:30 to 10pm I'll see ya, I WILL have my tt-01 and everything I need to race too ('cept the x pattern tires, I am gonna spell tyres now F1 style :D )
btw this facility has WiFI!!! Not sure if it is set up for patrons or what but that is awesome since I have that on my laptop at home and school already

Just a suggestion.
If you are going to buy tires, buy foams. If this track is so tight, foams are going to handle SO MUCH better.
I know someone ask on another thread, "why foams, want they be faster than rubber tires" That is a loaded question, why you ask. Yes, foams on carpet will be faster because you can actually control the car. Traction its you friend.
3 weeks ago, just for fun, we ran rubber tires on carpet cause it rained just before our main. It was like driving a Lambo. in the snow.
Plus with rubber tires you still need to use traction compound, It is more important with rubber tires that with foams.
Also for the guy that went and ran yesterday, which compound rubber tire did you use?
As for x-patterns on carpet, waste of money!

gentlemen,
I went to apex r/c today and some stuff i was selling sold. So I had $40 in credit.
I bought a Mini T.
Its stock right now, I literally only have AA batteries in it. I WILL HAVE IT TONIGHT!
So I am very much planning on racing the little truck instead of 1/10. I will probably sell one of my cars now.
I'll get some hop ups tonight at the race factory for it, need a better battery and of course some race shocks.
See you all tonight.

npresme -
Will foams really handle better on carpet if you cannot use traction compound? The talk is that compound will not be allowed. Without compound, isn't foam going to be slicker than rubber?

b....the first official race nite seems to be scheduled for next friday.(oct 29..i think)
XXX....foams are better no doubt. if the owner will allow, you can use wintergreen or regular alcohol to clean the tires. then take some good tac 2 inch tape and pull the rest of the debris off. that'll help but a low oder compound is better.
Hey Guys.
Nice looking track! Where is it? I raced my Mini T for the first time at Laso last week and had a blast. Was wondering what it would do on a road course....

Ron Zee

Foams are much better on carpet than rubber but on the other thread, I saw that rubbers were to be used. Like I said, on Nahunta those HPI tires worked really well. But hey, that was 6 years ago, what do I know.
Wether you use rubber or foam, if no compound is to be the way, then I suggest saving up for a set of tire warmers. I know a few drivers that have them and they really like the way they work.
And yes Anthony, 3 weeks ago the main was run on the carpet due to the rain, but from what I understand, the reason you guys ran on the rubbers was because very few people had foams. That was voted on by the drivers in that class that day, not something forced on the drivers by me.
Nice pictures by the way, but I see one potential problem. Road Rails suck. They virtually promote drivers to jump them to make up time, they are constantly moving when hit,( well at least with 1/10th cars) and you can't seem to round off corners with them very well. Hmmm,,, maybe with the smaller cars and trucks they'll work better.

Hey all-
I'm new to the area (Winston-Salem), and was wondering if there are any tracks near me. All of the ones seem to be close to durham and central NC. Id prefer something thats 30 mins away from W-S. I race on-road electric, but would give off road a try if thats all thats close. Thanks.

Thanks to all the folks who showed up on Sunday to get a feel for the track.
We will begin racing this Fri and every Fri afterward.
We will play it kind of loosely this Fri with start times, not knowing for sure when the racers from Durham and Chapel Hill areas get home from work and can get over to the track. We will poll people on Fri for start times for the future.
Directions to the Race Factory:
coming from Durham/Chapel Hill area - take I40 east, exit at 291. Go to the 2nd light and turn right onto Maynard Rd (McDonald's is across the street.) Go to the 2nd light and turn right onto Chatham St (about 1mile from McDonald's). Go 3/10 of a mile and turn right into the Race Factory.
If coming in on Hwy 64 the best bet would be to come all the way until 64 intersects with US 1. Go under the overpass and get on 64/1 North. Get off at Walnut St, cross back over 64/1. Stay on Walnut St until you get to Maynard Rd. There is a Barnes & Noble on the left and Cary Mall on the right. Turn right onto Maynard and go to the 3rd light. Turn left onto Chatham St and the Race Factory is 3/10 of a mile on the right.
Any questions, cal the store at 919-460-8797.

If the interest continues to grow for the carpet, would there be a chance of a bigger track? I know myself and a few others are looking for another place to race on either a Fri. or Sun. so that works great for us.

Coming from Goldsboro then, would I be getting off the same exit you mentioned earlier or is there another way? I'd at least like to see the place sometime.
Don, I called AMB not too long ago for Laso Raceway because the radio system in the Min-T's is the same thing in the Carisma cars. Wanna see? look at the wheel on the mini's transmitter and it says Carisma. Anyhow, the tech man told me that the personal transponders can go up to 8.5 volts with room to spare, so hooking it into the main battery pack with either a plug setup or hard wiring it will work. On my Carisma F-1, I used a female plug off of an old servo extension wire and solderd it to the battery lead. Now I can hook up and remove my Personal whenever I need too. In fact, all 4 of the F-1's running there are doing the same thing.

Ron - yes coming from the east on 70, once you get to Raleigh, get onto the Inner Beltline heading west. Follow it as if you are heading to the airport or further west. Still get off at exit 291.
Pete - Tell Chris to come on over. Haven't seen him since Garland's earlier in the year. Do you know if he's still racing slot cars also? I've been so busy since moving into the new place I haven't been able to make any of the monthly regional slot races so don't know if I've missed him at any of them or not.

Please give specific's on the mini-t classes.
stock= Box stock? Any mods allowed? What tires?

6 cell packs for both?
Do you have tires and batteries in stock? What other parts
do you stock, bearings/shocks/cvds ?

Here is my Mini T so far:
-Dynamite 6 cell pack
-Bearings in all hubs
-Losi Racing shocks
-Losi CVDs
so even if we don't race the mini T class it still has all the "necessary" upgrades :)
http://www.brentroad.com/photos/00343846.jpg
and to answer one of the questions, Jack has many parts for the Mini T in stock including bearings, shocks, bodies, batteries, all types of tires too. He also stocks parts for some other cars and kits as well, including the Mini T. However CVDs may be hard to get now as per Horizon Hobbies :(

I came, I saw, i raced, I had a blast. Went a little longer than I thought it would, but definatly had fun. Almost like the old Chapel Hill days. Only now there's places to sit and plug things in!!LOL
Let Justin run my mini X-Ray, and he whooped up on the other HPI cars in the mini class. My 1/12th ran way better than I ever thought I could drive it. Just as quick as Marks and Johns but the driver needs a little more work. Lap times were as fast as theirs, but the consistancy was for shizzle. Something to work for.
I will definatly be back there again. Only, Jack, Please, keep me away from the slot stuff!!

Me and Will had a blast last night. I think I had the tc3 hooking up pretty good. Had a few laps in the low 6's. If I could do that consistently I would be thrilled but I know its just gonna take practice. We will definately be back again.
Brad - congrats on your "mini" victory. Can't wait to see you runnin' some 12th scale.
Mark - Thanks for the help and advice - I'll talk to you about the x-ray later

Cosmo, this was our first time racing on the track BUT talk to Mark (axrayed1), he might can give you a starting point even though we ran 1/12th stock. I'd love to do some 1/12th Stock out there. Just gotta find a way to make it out there by 7pm start time. Get off work at 4:30pm. So I gotta figure out how long it takes to get through traffic and into Cary. Exit 291 isn't too far off. Closer than Durham. Ron, was the driver faster goin there than Durham?
Jimmy Mac
Ron Zee
10-30-2004, 11:31 PM
Oh, definatly. I went from here at 4:00 and got there about 5. Left last night from there at 12 and got home at 11:45. But, the car was going a little faster then. Traffic wasn't too bad as most were heading outta Raleigh when I was going through it. Got a little heavier as I got into Cary, but if I can do it, you can too!!
My Knife was using purple fronts and gray rears, and there is NO traction compound allowed. So, if you got 'em, bring some tire warmers. I'm sure it'll help. Other than that, you drive semi-easy the first 2-3 laps, then it'll hook up fine. Then again, as time goes on and a few more laps are put on the track, rubber should build up a little and traction should be helped by that.

KilRuf,
Not sure where you are coming from but exit 291 seems to be the easiest. If coming from the west, exit and go to the right. If coming from the east, exit and cross over I40. You will go to the 2nd light and turn right onto Maynard Rd. Go to the 2nd light again and turn left onto Chatham St. Go 3/10 of a mile, the store is on the right.
If you have any questions, just give me a call at 919-460-8797.
If you are gonna be a little late, give me a call and we'll see about holding things up a bit.
We do want to have a consistent start time every Friday, these first several weeks may be varying somewhat as I need to know when you guys can get over here. Also don't want you guys having to wait around all night to race the mains, unless of course you want to.
The store is open Fridays until 11pm but I do stay open later if we are racing either slots or now R/C.

I think 3 ran 1/10 scale, I will also do this on Friday. No more than 5 or 6 on that track is possible though! They got spread out, some banging going on though. Really the track is perfect for micros and mini T, 1/12 does well. You MUST have your 1/10 dialed in reallllllly well it looked like or you will be very slow. Brakes are a must! all about traction
which reminds me: running 1/10 scale with belt system, should i use a front one way at this track?
what tires did the 1/10 class agree to use?? I will have my car ready for that class Friday night. I'm showing up right at 4pm to practice :D
btw found that mini T bearing in my garage. phew. Still need to shrinkwrap my CVD joints, I made another CVD pin out of a body post pin :D
another question: should I run a p2k2 or monster stock pro? I'll experiment but what do you all think? If it was Durham no question but this is a lot tighter and smaller!!
Jack, YOU ARE THE MAN FOR OPENING THIS TRACK UP! I will do everything I can to promote it. I was happy with the first night turout- every class was adequatley filled

cheer..you can use whatever tyre hooks up. i think nearly all the 1/10th guys used foams. purple/purple or pur-orange/purple. you'll have to ask xrayed. and whatever you do...don't ever use a one-way on carpet, especially a track that small! no matter what the skill level.....one-ways just aint consistant.and go with the p2k2. more tork.

Yes there were 3 running 1/10th.
Sounds like more due this Friday. I know some of my regular slot racers have gotten TC3's. Two of them have run r/c before, the others are new to it but picked up slot cars real quick.
We may have to divide up into some sort of beginner and non-beginner races. Don't want you guys having to dodge the newbie's ( I do enough of that in slots, it's a challenge for sure) and want the newbie's to get their feet wet and get some skills built up. This will also help with the number of cars on the track in a given race.

Seems a lot want to try running 1/10ths, just remember, that the key with them is going to be handling, not speed. 1/12ths were great, going to run it again this weekend, and I'm hoping to get a guy to come with me with a 1/12 Yokomo touring car. That is the car to get I think. If I could, I would. As for the Micro class, I think I'll be driving my X-Ray this weekend. But,we'll see.
Jimmy, just head down 40, get off 291 and bear right. Go to the second light and turn right. Go to the second light again and then turn left. Before you get it into second gear, the place is on the right.
Or, come by here and we'll go together. Hey the T-birds a lot nicer than the Blazer.

I would more than likely run my Yokomo 1/12th since the chassis is thinner than the RugRAt. Being as how no traction compound is allowed... the thinner chassis will allow more flex.. which in turn=more traction.. :D Oh, and I also have that body that LeadFoot painted for me. I could run that!!
Anyways.. we'll see later in the week...

Hmmm,,, I could run MIcro, BRP if John and Ray show up, 1/10th touring with the TC3, Mini-Z as there's a separate track for them too, the Carpet Knife 1/12th, And my Carisma if enough of them came out too. Dude, 6 classes. I got way too many cars.

I'll check it out this morning as I'm placing an order today.
Jack - I suspect that you are going to have to get the CRC parts directly from Calandra. I think Horizon does carry some of there parts but not too many. All last winter I had to order directly cause no one in the area could get me the parts.

Hey guys, had a BLAST last night racing micros. Ron, thanks again for letting me run your little xray. It drove oh so nice and made it easy for me to TQ and win the main. Hey, two weekends in a row. ;) This micro stuff is pretty fun! Pete, let me check with Trinity and see what kind of price I can get a reflex for, I'll let you know. By the way, not every class gets a gift certificate at the RF, just the class with the biggest field. If Don gave out certificates in durham it would have to be for free entries or something because the shop is no longer as we knew it. Just an FYI. Brad

Selling any car for 50.00 dollars is an indication of what that car means to you and not how good it may be setup. I know I sold the one I paid you 200.00 dollars for for 50.00 cause I did'nt want it anymore not because 50.00 is what is was worth. Kevin, I knew you were gonna reply like that. And sorry if it came out wrong. I didn't mean to "take away" from your "sale" or anything. But if Nomac "only" has $40 to spend... then I'm just "simply" saying that there are other deals out there. No need to push a $100 car on a person that doesn't have that kind of budget. Basically I was just demonstrating that deals can be found if you look hard enough. Tim's RugRat was just an "example". Sorry once again.
And as for the "god" deal. I never said I was. Nor do I boast to be a local god. I just enjoy helping people out as much as I can at the track. I do it as a hobby. And never quit my class and sell all my stuff just cause I can't win, or win all the time. Any time Steve B or Brandon show up... they almost always got me beat. But hey... I keep on racing! :)
And John North.. you were fast and out qualify'n me! I guess that now makes you the God!! ;)
Mark P, I have the RugRat here at the house now. I paid Tim $50 for it. Are you sure you still want it? Ray could really use it!! Comes assembled with the RugRat chassis. Old style "yellow" small ring IRS diff. Spare AE 12L3 diff. Spare 12L3 chassis. Spare "thin" Shooters chassis (a yokomo copy for asphalt). Spare upper and lower arms. Spare upper arm hinge pins. The "thick" TBar is mounted. But it comes with 2 "thin" TBars for asphalt. AE blue aluminium screws and standoffs already on the car. And an assortment of tires. Some okay.. some not soo good. And no body. $50 is a great deal for this car. But it's for a good cause. Tim really needs the money for college. That's why he's selling his stuff dirt cheap. I bought my old TC3 off of him for $80 about a month ago.
Anyways... Sorry if anything came out wrong. Catch the rest of yall Friday...

Oh man, if i could, I be racing everyday! But, seeing as the cash flow is limited, I guess I'll have to suffer until Fri. night. Come on Jimmy, my X-Ray needs some competition! lolol

Sorry once again...
Anyways... is the track open during the week nights just for practice? And is there a fee for practice? Just curious. Maybe one night during the week if I got bored I might head up there. Wouldn't mind playing around with my old Micro RS4 if I can get that thing to run again.
Jimmy Mac
The track is open for practice all week long during regular store hours:
Mon - closed
Tue - Thu - 4pm - 9:30pm
Fri - 4pm - 11pm
Sat - Noon - 11pm
Sun - Noon - 6pm
Track time is $6 Sun - Fri all day, or night. $10 all day Sat.

Guys I may not be able to make it on Friday...... bunch of nOObs at work decide not to come to work. And they of course got fired. SOoooooooooo I may have to work extra hours this week, and thus Friday night. The only good thing is that without other people selling things, I have made more in two days in comission than I usually make in 2 weeks!
I SHOULD be there on Friday though, we'll see. If I do have to work, I'll still come in at 9:45 ish and watch- I just won't bother bringing anything to set up!
If no work then same as usual, this time I'll race. The 1/10 scale car seems to be OK and the Mini T just needed a shock rebuild. When I originally put the aftermarket shocks on, I did it at The Race Factory while borrowing other people's tools and I did a horrible job. I still want captured ball cups on it though if possible- if those ball cups just pop off no sense racing yet.
Till then!

Hey Badtwothebone/Dave....... I just bought an Emaxx on ebay so definite No to your Stampede.
If anybody wants a B3 buggy let me know- Pete you want it back??? I have some other stuff for sale now too. Radios and a charger.
Hey Jack if it is OK with you can we sell stuff in the pits? I know you have a shop set up and I just would like to make sure this is OK with you. I have a box of stuff that somebody else, including beginners, would probably love to look through.

john, why not go for a CRC T-fource?
I'm all for anyone buyin' AE stuff, but I gotta support the CRC team! :D
Josh - I am partial to CRC also. They have great parts support and really good customer service everytime I call them for something. I have been thinking about the T-Fource for awhile now......probably could get a conversion kit for my knife.....
BTW - Great Job on that body. Do you currently have any?

not yet, I did paint the boss's World's bodies ;) and have some here for the Cleveland to do still. Maybe I'll get one in return, right now I'm just gettin the bodies... :D
As far as conversions go, the Red "full kit" is P/N 1327 $89.99, and the regular conversion kit is P/N 1326 - $64.99.
Thanks - Next time I order from them I plan on getting one of those bodies.
I think I read on their forum that you need that conversion plus a few other parts to convert a carpet knife cause it doesn't have a t-plate.

stopped by the track today with a friend to show him around, and a lot of the Mini T hop ups have been sold. I hope this means more people will be coming out to race- all the foam tires were gone!

well, my 10th is ready. i start cycling batteries tomorrow. gonna see how to shape this up. will be too much of a strain to do both cary and rosewood this weekend....and then there's charleston! all so far away! there's like 10 off-road tracks within an hour radious from me...but only like 2 on-road tracks.and the closest one is 1 1/2 hours away!! :p .
man!!! i need more touring choices in MY neck of the woods! somewhere close by where i can slam about 30 pacs down , to get a GOOD practice session, and not worry if i had enough cheerwine & snickers to stay wake comming home.LOL! does anyboby have any leads? don't get me wrong...i love racing with you all....but i'm starting to wear down from all the driving. 400 miles every weekend is nuts!!

I'm still waiting for the AE truck to come. Until then, I think the X-Ray'll do for me for now. That and maybe the Carpet Knife. I need to get some new rubber on it though. too many cracks in the rea rims.

How come it seems every time I try to order something, the place is always out of stock on most of what I wanted? Very depressing.

Hmmm, Brad, can I run your car around a few times to see what a "beginners" car goes like before I plunge in?
Also,, Jimmy and John N, are the cars you talked about earlier still up for sale? Steve D is looking for one. AGAIN. I think he'd prefer an ASSC. car, but he did express interest in the Bloody Knife.

i REALLY miss the old ACRC track in greensboro. i've yet to find a track like that. :o

had fun tonight. Today was the first time I was able to finish 2 quals and a main race without breaking anything at all. Granted my rear diff was not correct but it started that way!
Thanks to those who let me drive their cars. TC4 and a 1/12. Very cool :D
See you all on Friday

Ron Z...thanks for the tip on doctoring up the front Mini-T tires. I'll try that when I get some foams.
Jack, when you place your order, can you get me a pair of soft rubber tires for my RS4 Micro?
Thanks and have a good weekend!

I'm ordering a 1/12th for one of my slot racers. Can you guys give me a recommendation for battery pack for it? Mark told me something last night but I lost the paper it was written on.
Jack - 4 cell GP 3300's. Not sure where Mark gets his batteries from, but I usually get mine from http://www.promatchracing.com

Jack, Promatch are good or if you want preassembled race packs try here http://www.fusionbatteries.com/ they are the ones I use and they seem to hold up great. Ran one pack all night Friday with no run time or voltage problems, just let it cool and recharge. I think I charged it 5 times Fri.
