wowsa, its been 4+ years since i've been on here! too much stuff goin on lately, but i would like to finish my rock king clod before i turn 19. i will supply some pics soon too. but i just have a few questions...

will the 550 motors for the e-maxx fit in the stock motor openings?

i was thinking about going with the EVX for my speed control, any thought on this?

this is going to be a crawling truck ONLY. i don't care about speed at all. i have over 90 degrees of articulation, locked front and rear diffs, and am widening the truck a bit. that said, does that sound like a good motor/ESC combo for torque? can anyone recommend a better combo (if its cheaper too, well thats always good...i got real cars i spend money on too, so any savings here are always welcome).

do they make wheels that have a huge (or larger than stock) offset, to widen the truck and keep the tires from scraping my suspension links? i think these would work out better than wheel spacers.

thanks all :D

550 motors should fit in the gear cases.

You might want to rework your suspension though. 90 deegrees is bad for crawling, the axles will be too floppy. Try to limit your suspension at 75 deegrees

To get more offset, just hack the inner bead off of your wheels. This would give more offset and narrow the wheel.

If its been 4+ years since you've last been here, how come you are registered in late 02?

I have the same question, I thought 4 years was a long time and checked your profile, and it says youve only been here since 7/10/02. Multiple names maybe?

For Crawling, I wouldn't use the EVX because its not that smooth at lower speeds. You might want to go with Kyosho Magnetic Mayhems and a Super Rooster or a Mtroniks Super Truck ESC.

Stock Silver cans work well for crawling.

Depending on how your suspension is set up (lower link size, attaching point, length), some people have clearence issues with 550 sized motors during suspension travel.

My Gecko Clod won't fit a 550 without hitting the lower links while articulating. I use silver cans and a S. Rooster and it has plenty of grunt.

my Geko 1 crawler, has Mag Meyhams, Super rooster, Locked front and rear diffs, 4WS, 8t Pinions, adjustable motor mounts, and bearings in the axles. For crawling go with the super rooster and Mag Meyhams or stock silver can motors they have the most torque. EVX's and titans are made for speed more than low end grunt.

I cut both the intter and outter beads off my rims. It makes them a little taller and If you cut the treads it will soften them up a lot so they grip better.

eep, sorry bout the 4 years, i was thinking of another forum. well its been 2 years then.

this is also my first crawler, so all this is new to me. i thought about it and yes, it looks like 550's might have problems with clearance. i will probably just stay with stock motors for now then, and go with a super rooster.

i added my own wheel spacers after looking at some that were on ebay. they are just screws through the hubs, with 5 nuts on each as spacers, then just bolted to the wheel. got me an extra 3/4" or so. not really pretty, but nothing on this truck is so far.

now, i am going to attempt to make some axle mounts for the servos. i bought a few electrical box covers to use for stock, and i will just cut to fit. again, i will get some pics soon.

one more question. heres an idea i was just fooling around with, but any of you use a third channel for rear steering? i was just curious what radios you use if you do.

if you are building a crawler go with some integy lathe motors. They are like 55turns (super torque). I would also stick with a novak super rooster for the clod. I use my XS3 for the rear steering. you should check clodtalk for more info.

www.rccrawler.com is good source for crawling info.

Rear steering can be set up a couple of different ways depending on prefrance and what your radio can do. You can go for mixed into the front chanel or set it up on a seperate switch so you can crab and things like that. Problem with that is you don't have porportional control over the rear wheels, so some use a 4ch stick radio (like an airplane radio).

I've heard good things about the integy lathe motors, but also that there slow on 7.2 volts. I would avoid the evx due to the already mentioned reasons, mainly poor lowend throtle response.

for crawling i would run rooster, im currently running super chicken, but its not neccesary, you want to connect motors in series ( to more torque, and longer run times) and therefore turns are added ( i.e. 2 X 27T motor will give 52T in series but about 13 in parallel) so this would be enaugh, and im not sure about widening, if youll be able to give it more clearance under gearboxes than ok, but otherwise i would stay stock. Im running TXT but clods are also great fun
