I was thinking about buying a touring car (it would be my first) but if I bought a 1/10 scale I knew I would be spending a ton so I started out with something small.
Here is my XRAY M18
I bought this while I wait for parts for my custom brushless MT project.
XRAY M18
Mamba Competition X 8000 kv
Penguin 7500 Chassis
11.1v 3 cell Li-Poly cell
URC Vertical Motor Mount
XTech RC Aluminum Wheels (I am going to use them later)
Custom made battery tray to fit my needs.
Very Quick..

Anyone know why I can't remote link the pictures? Why does it come up as links instead of posting the picture directly?

Chase023,
Nice car, love that body (specially with the Rothman's livery).
I make a carbon center shafts that makes you accelarate even faster. Email me at LB9731@SBC.com if interested.
I also use 2S, and 3S LiPo in my car. Be carefull with the LiPos sticking out of the side of your chassis! LiPos can not take a direct hit, they will catch on fire with a hard hit (soft cover, will result in an internal short with a hit, and thus a possible fire).

Nice pics.
sweet, secret....the controller fits below the shaft ;-)
Get ball diffs. I use the front gear diff and rear ball diff.

Hi Havy!
You're in all Micro Forums! he,he,he,he!
Last wednesday I ran in a drag race in Roberto Clemente Stadium, in Carolina, and the M18 8000kv / 8.4v was detected at the end of the track at 48mph. It took 2.84 secs to complete 132 feet track, that's really awesome, since the fast 1/10 nitro guy that night, just did 2.09 secs. at 58 mph!
I just think the Xray with Li-po pack of 11.1v would beat that time and velocity easily!
I just did the math today, and it will be runing aprox. 63 mph with the lipo-pack!
We'll see that next wednesday!

@Luis,
I'm envious!! I'm betting traction will become your limiting factor... Are you using traction compound or anything?

Hi ducati;
The traction was not a problem here, since we ran in a conditioned Drag Track with Bite on it! The traction was perfect!
The only problem I really have is the cogging problem mamba has! As you may know, these systems perform very well, but when you hit the throtle from a stop, the car doesn't scream from the very start! It gradually gain speed, and this is robbing me a second in the quarter mile!

...but at this time, we possibly found a solution to the "turbo lag", thanks to Castle Creations support! It has to be a battery related problem. If you are about to running li-poly packs on your Mamba BL, asure to use a 1500 mAh or greater, since the cogging problem is a "current draw" related problem that should be solved with a higher current battery!!!! The higher de mAh, the better!
Also, CC told me, that the current Mamba Software will greatly improve acceleration and correct the mentioned cogging problem!
I hope see this next wednesday in our Local Drag Track, the faces of the fastest nitro guys when my rocket Xray M18 pass the quarter mile sensors at an amazing speed, and possibly beat their best times! :p

Uhh this might be worthy of a new thread, BUT, have you checked into using capacitors on the battery side of the ESC? I do this to all of my cars, with the disclaimer that my cars are all brushed...
http://www.freepixhosting.com/uploadedfiles/100_0802.jpg
errr that usually comes up as a picture... dunno..
Notice the big blue capacitor, that one is a 2200 umm pico farad? micro farad? I forget... Anyway its 4 bucks at Radio Shack, and I've found it to give me more jump off the line since it can discharge immediately. I'm sure you'll all familiar how an ESC works by opening a circuit for a small amount of time then shutting it. Rather than the on/off draw of the ESC, the capacitor provides the battery with a much smoother load...

The capacitor possibly is a 2200 uF (Micro Farad), but what voltage you think it is?
I beleive that the mamba has already a capacitor installed on board, but I don't know it's capacity value, I don't know either if it could be harm to the ESC install another one externally.
If any of you have a mamba with an external capacitor installed, please post your experience!

Well see, I noticed that capacitor on the mamba as well, which is why I don't want to say I recommend it. Especially considering I have no experience with the Mamba.... but for my applications, meaning cheap brushed cars, I like the capacitor.
Micro... Sounds right, 2200 micro farad, rated for 35 volts. The other day I saw caps for 6 volts, but none for 12 which would have been perfect for me. For those not familiar, high voltage ratings typically increase the size of the capacitor without increasing capacity... The 6 volt 1100 was tiny compared to my 2200 35v...

This would help mamba 8000kv owners!
I received and tryed yesterday the Kokam 3s cell (11.1v), 700 mAh and it work better than I thought! (SINCE THEIR CAPACITY DOESN'T MET THE REQUIRED CURRENT CAPACITY. YO WILL NEED a pack with 1500mAh or more)
The cogging or "Turbo Lag" effect are completely GONE and now have lots of low end (torque) and top end speed. Now my Xray M18 mamba/8000 kv does scream the tires from a dead start!!!!
At this point, I figure it out that the 700 mAh lipo battery works better than a GP1100, but I understand that I'm runing weight under required current capacity here, so I would like to try a Kokam 3s 11.1v 2000 mAh very soon.
But for you guys that are experimenting the cogging or "Turbo Lag" effect, it's absolutely a battery related problem, as Castle Creations people ever said. My system is a 2nd generation Mamba ESC, with the additional 470uF 35v powercap installed in the Battery connector at the ESC (bought in Radioshack $1.59). Now it accelerates like a rocket!
I bet I could now beat Nitros 1/10 in their Drag Track! ja,ja,ja,ja,ja!
I'll post my experience when I get my hands on a 2000 mAh Lipo Pack and the Mamba PHX-Link (that it's supposed to greatly improve acceleration/braking and correct the cogging effect through updated software).
In the mean time , I'll continue to feed my "NITRO EATER"!!!!

Sweet...
I am using the 1570Mah 11.1v Apogee Li-poly cells on my M18.
I am using the stock spur and 19T pinion.
What gearing are you using?
Can you post the dimensions for your 2000mah pack when you get it?

Some of us did not have cogging problems --- ;) don't take personal. but once you have good connectors and batteries and wire and gearing. You should not have any cogging problems. At least I did not after I did what I just said......

Chase,
Absolutely, I'll glad to include my experience when I get the Thunder Power 2100 mAh 3s cells (11.1v) and the dimensions as well!
I'm currently runing a stock spur 36T and a 19T pinion, this for bashing on the street. If I'm gonna race in the Circuit track, I get the 21T or 23T pinion. I allways use the 36T spur gear!
I ran my Xray Mamba Equiped, about an hour ago with a neighbor, him with an HPI RS4 2, two shifts and a brand new O.S. TR .12 with turbo head, and guess what?
Mi micro off the line take-off more agresively and all the way keeps a great distance between the HPI! The HPI never could catch me! ja,ja,ja,ja! Now my micro deserves the "NITRO EATER" name!
The funniest thing happens in a subsecuent race try, I left him start first by a second or two, then I start, and by the half of the way my micro hit the HPI in the back when it aproach to it very very fast!!!! ja,ja,ja,ja! The reaction of my neighbor was said - "dude, this thing flies!!"
I truly enjoy beat Nitros with this sort of a "toy car"!!!! Of course it's not a toy!
Well, I wil keep you guys informed about the next major mod, the software update through PHX-Link!
Cheers!

That's cool! I'm glad to heard that! ;)
You have the 470uF 35v. capacitor installed on your ESC? If not, give it a try, and you will notice a huge difference on your hard launchs!
In my case, the low end (torque) was greatly improved with the installation of the capacitor!
Cheers!

Right now my Mamba is 100% stock not CAP added. Just upgrade the software and go. When I first got it, I used some cheap batteries and got some cogging. But when I started using KAN 2200mah 6 cell packs and GP1100 6 cells packs with good wire and good connectors, all my cogging went away.
Cheers...

Those are way to expensive for me so i am going to run a mini giant with the mamba system and a 7 cell hexegonal pack. you know the one that venom makes for their own car specifically.wut do u think the speeds will be
cause i want to drag it against my buddies emaxx(stock) he still think he'll win but from wut i'v read it should top around 40-50
does this sound right to you? if not please tell me

Same here, no cogging on either Mamba system I have, but mine is only the 5400 performance version. Still very, very fast, and super light with the Great Planes 1200 lipos I've been using. I tried an 1800 Polyquest which seemed to give a little more punch, but I still don't have cogging or heat build up in the pack with the small 1200 pack. I use Dean's connectors and solder, and an Astro 109 charger.
The charger also seems to be important, as with my nimh experience I noticed a very big difference in performance when I moved up to a more high end charger from my MRC stupidbrain.

i just purchased the mamba sport version. any breakin for this motor i need to worry about? what about maintenance? just need a couple of pointers since i'm not to familiar with electrics.
