I have found that when I have my reciever in a balloon and the boat sinks the water still gets inside the balloon, this causes more problems because it takes more time to get out and to spray it with wd-40, latley I have just been taking the reciever out of its plastic case and if it gets wet I just spray with wd-40 and its better again...

I think your taking a risk of frying your reciever. WD-40???? Why not use corsion X or Detoxit, would be better than WD-40, atleast it seals.

Your boat sinks? Well I'll say in the event of a flip or something worse its a good idea to open up all your electrics and let them air dry after coating with a electrical cleaner whether they still work or not. I had a reciever stop working just a few weeks after a good dunking. I openend it up and coated with electrical cleaner (detoxit) & checked it daily. After 3 days it started to work again!! :D Bringing a RX back from the dead is possible!

WD-40 will eat up a circuit board! I learned long ago when I raced electric trucks that you don't use it in there either. I use Aeroplate in my RX's and servos. I have brought a RX back from the dead, it sat in my basement for 2 weeks with water damage and did bring it back.
A balloon with a piece of paper towel in it gives added protection. A cheaper route than balloons is disposable baby bottle liners.

Here's a 'tip' that really works. Remove the leads from a servo or two (same number as channels in the receiver). Remove case from the receiver. Solder the wires from the removed servo leads to the corresponding tabs where the lead would normally plug in. You now have leads comming from the receiver ending with the 'plug' on the outside. Set receiver board back into it's case and fill the case with bee's wax. Oops! Do the 'lead' thing with the battery connection, and the crystal May have to build a 'dam' around where the crystal plugs in)!! Replace the receiver case's cover. Let cool. The bee's wax doesn't affect the receiver's operation and the receiver ~IS~ water proof. There are several 'potting' compounds used in electronics that will work just as well, but are not as common (or cheap) as bee's wax...

PS - No, the idea isn't 'mine', I stole it from another site.

Doc, you should have told him where to get the Bee's wax. It's the stuff used in making toilet rings, the gasket that goes between the toilet and flange. My local hardware stores have them for around $1.00 .

some one this site told me to use wd-40 when electronics get wet..... thats the only reason i did it...

and that bees wax thing souds like a good idea...

Doc,
great idea. Have you considered epoxy like they use on the Shark systems? But your idea sounds like one I might have to consider.
