View Full Version : Tall tires?
What are the tallest tires that will fit stock Maxx size wheels?

I believe the Imex Jumbo Kongs use a stock size wheel, so those would be the tallest for sure. The smaller (but still massive) JumboMaxx tires use stock diameter rims. The rims made for those tires are considerably wider, but you can use a stock Maxx size rim if you want, the diameter is the same. The tallest traditional Maxx size tire is probably gonna be the MGT tread. It's about 6.75" inches tall, and contrary to it's lame (IMO) looks, it actually grabs exceptionally well. I think the LST might use Maxx size rims...and if so, those tires are a little taller and considerably wider than the MGT tires, but again, I'm not positive about that rim size.

The MGT tires are probly pretty close, you might take a look at the LST tires, but I don't know for sure that they use the same rims. The MGT tires aren't much for racing, but they are a favorite with rock crawlers.

I think that imex k-rock are taller than mgt tires and they fit standard maxx rims for sure.

The hot bodies tires with the flame tread, (don't know what they are called) are like 8 inches and look a lot better than jumbos. They will still kill your tranny though.

In theory the taller tires should give you more top end, but not always. When I judge my Maxx (by the looks of it (which is in no way perfect)) it looks like it is faster with the little and light imex baja dawg's then what it is with the much taller stock savage tires. This would have to be because of weight because they seem to be quite abit heavier.
Just something to think about.
I would guess the k rocs would be nice because they are tall and somewhat skinny and they're imex so they would be light. But I bet they have ALOT of sidewall roll. ALOT!

ALOT!The stock wheels/tires where a lot taller and weighed a lot more(569 grams each) and had more top end.So I switched to Maxx size wheels/tires(shorter but lots lighter 265gr) far better take off(top speed in 30ft).Plus thay just will be run on road in a strate line.

actually the k-rocks come with pretty thick side walls and stiff foams. Wont be like a 40 series bow tie but I dought it will be a major problem...
