I haven't been around here in ages. I got a T-maxx when they were pretty new and of course came here for tips and tricks and to just generally shoot the chit with folks.

Anyway, looks like the Maxx needs another engine swap so I'm back for some more advice/thoughts.

First off a lil back ground, I don't race and up untill this morning I didn't even know anyone that also had a nitro truck. So my RC time consists of taking out the basically stock tmaxx and tearass'n around the property, going over mad jumps and terrorising the farm critters and kids(no I don't really live on a farm at least no real farmer would ever have that take.)

So, I'm looking for thoughts on what I should do...

1. Same engine swap I did the first time, trade in worn out motor for new .15 traxxas, I think it cost me $70 bucks the first time.

2. New T-maxx .21

3. Is that revo RTR? and is it as robust as the Maxx? I just wonder 'cause I'm not going to start racing so it's really about what truck is going to stand up to the abuse and not the one that's fastest around the track.

4. The guy I mentioned who also has a nitro truck has an Assoiciated that looks a ton like the Maxx as far as shock set up and what not. He's got a .21 traxxas motor and says it takes larger displacment motors too. So I'm just wondering if there are any other suggestions. I'd really like it RTR as I don't have the time to devote to assembling the thing. I did plenty of that back in the day before I had a job, wife, kids, etc.

thnx.

I don't have a 1/8 monster but I can answer one of your questions: Yes the Revo is sold as a RTR.

There are a lot of monsters today that take big blocks (.21 and above). If I were you I'd stick with the T-MAXX and put an OS .18 CV-RX in it. The OS makes the T-MAXX a little faster that a stock 2.5 and it will be easy to tune and maintain. Plus, the OS only costs $92.99 new from Tower Hobbies.

Ya any of the .18 os engines will work but on your friends truck that is not a traxxas engine i think it would be a thunder tiger one as traxxas doesn't make anything but .15's

That's the main reason I didn't get that truck. Kits own.

Reading this forum and some other places that .18 OS is getting pushed a ton. How much work is getting that into my original .15 Tmaxx? Carb swaps? Clutch?

FIA, Kits are great for people if RC is their life. At best RC has the #4 spot behind Video games, Paintball, and Sports. No time for tinkering. Set it up for bashing and be done with it. Shoot odds are I won't even do the engine swap myself. It's a lil sad missing out on that part of the hobby, but when it comes right down to it engine swap < Halo 2, Outlaw Paintball, Attending NFL or College football game, back yard sports.

I think I could well get back into the tinkering side if/when I start racing those silly lil mini-zs. I got a buddy really pushing it. Of course I want him to invest in a Paintball marker.

I'm no T-MAXX expert, but I think that the original T-MAXX has a rotarry carb (can someone help out here), and I know for sure that they require a short threaded cranksshaft. Assuming I'm right about these requirements, you'd need this one:

Keep in mind, that this comes with a pullstart, I'm not positive, but I think that you could put your ez-start onto it.
