I was advised to use a 40 size rudder for my Dumas Miller American 1/8 scale hydro. I was just wondering what size rudders you guys use on your scale hydros. Thanks!

NOT A DUMAS RUDDER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have one on a sport 40 Pay N' Pak and can tell you it's garbage. It's a piece of 1/16th stainless welded into a slot cut into the end of a piece of 3/16th stainless rod. I managed to break one, as well as one made for the 30" Pay N' Pak kit. The 2.5 to 3 inch length is about right, but get a good one from Octura or someplace like that. You'll be happier in the long run :) Same goes for the skid fin assy and the rudder bracket ;)

HJ, I really like the look of Speedmaster stuff. I've got some of it on my AM gas Avenger and I 've got some more brand new stuff on my workbench, aka my wife's furniture ;) !

On intlwaters.com, I was told by a couple of boaters that you can use a 40 size rudder assembly. I think that I'll just buy the 60 and not worry about it. One of the experienced guys in a PM told me to use a 40 but he replied back on my thread and said that either would be fine.

As you probably already know, I've got a 20 'rigger rudder on my Sport 40 that I'm building so a .40 rudder should work on an 1/8 scale boat. Oh yeah, nothin' but Speedmaster on my race boats!
