View Full Version : Has the LST improved since the initial release?

Any insight into whether Losi has improved the bugs or issues that occurred repeatedly since the initial release of the LST?
If the Trruck has been on the market for six months, one would assume that Losi has made improvements on the more recent production units. However, it seems that the same issues are continuously being posted accross the web. The rhetoric on this Truck is essentially that it sucks as a result of breaking down or parts failing.
I don't understand this logic -- one would expect that a company/distributor would have addressed the various issues by now or at least make an effort to reassure the R/C market of its strategy/plan for addressing the problems whether as a result of design or production. Instead shop owners with whom I've spoken refuse to carry it, not only due to its mechanical breakdowns but also due to the lack of parts supply.
Bottome line -- I love the Truck but I'm concerned about buying one myself as a result of the current situation. When can I buy one????

well i just got one friday and i broke it in and took it to the track today and it took all i had to give it . The LST is a very strong truck if u ask me. Im use to driving 1/8 scale buggies so i was trying 2 triple and double huge jumps and crashed many times hard yet the truck kept going . BY the end of the day i hit every jump all but the triple wich i must roll instead of double . A 13lb moster is hard to slide aroud like a buggie . So in my opion the truck is as good as it gets all RC's have there issues its life.

I watched him and he aint lying. You cant run a truck much harder unless your trying to break something. The guy that owns the track has taken some ugly spills with his and hasnt broken a thing either.
I dont really go for all the negative hype anyway. People sometimes forget that when you have a truck that weighs this much going that fast hits something its bound to break. Then they blame it on the truck and not the driver.
Ive seen just about everything out there over the last 17yrs and I dont think it gets much better than the LST.

I own trucks # 2190 and #8380 and from an initial observation there's a couple things that have been changed apparently.
The CVD's look to be slightly thicker at the ends with a more gradual taper at the ends rather than the comparitively abrupt shoulder on the original trucks. The axles also look to be made of a slightly different material and are beefed up as well
One thing that bothered me to the point where I took it upon myself to correct with the orignal truck was the slop in the spurs and the spur/pinion gears didn't align properly, the 2nd gear pinion sat about 2/3 on the spur.I retapped the motor mount and shaved things here and there and lined it up on the first truck and shimmed the spurs with a conical washer to tighten them up
.The second truck does not have this problem the gears have full bearing and everything lines up fine.
One thing they haven't changed is they still put "the washer" in the mach .26 as of truck #8340 as I opened mine up and removed it before cleaning and sealing everything.
The clutch springs are now the upgraded silver springs
That's about it I think .......all I can think of that would've been nice is stronger diff cases but I haven't looked to see if they changed them or not
Hope this helps

Thx so much for that side-by-side analysis -- that is exactly what I have b een seeking.
How about the scarce supply of parts -- the three LHS are still monitoring for it and now have comeback with an additional concern -- that Horizon parts are being sold for $1 -- what is this all about???
Can you identify the washer that you referenced in your reply -- perhaps by part number since I don't yet have the LST to identify it visually...
Thx

Wow - what am I in for? Just got my LST for Christmas and have only a little experience with a Duratrax Maximum (last month or so). I can see I may have a lot of questions.

If you design something well, it will hold up to a lot of abuse. Example: I built a 1 ton 4x4 Suberban, w/ a 454 w/ a t425 auto tranny, Dana 60 frnt, 14 bolt rear, 456 w/ detroit locker. I beat the crap out of it, then sold it to a guy, who later flipped it down a hill racing another truck. All my custom bumpers, nerf bars and heavy duty parts held up perfect. Just the body sustained damage.
My Super duty is pushing 430 hp @ the rear wheels, with 785 ftlbs of torque @ 30lbs of boost! I have 193000 mi on it, and it's still going strong!
Point is, Losi didn't work out the bugs with enough R&D before releasing it to the public. This isn't a bash, just an observation and an opinion. I'm not trying to be a "nay sayer", just think that they should rectify these issues ASAP! There are many great things about the truck. It looks great, has a nice sized torquey (sp) engine, and jumps well. It just seems to need some re-designing of a few components.
If you own one, buy some spare a-arms,front and rear, I did for my Revo's, eventhough they haven't been run yet.

I was wondering where you were going with that. You're point should've been racers are built not bought ;)

Ok now your comparing a 1:1 scale truck with a 1/8th scale truck? Lets be a little more realistic!
OK, so a 1/8th scale doing 40mph would work out to be about 320mph in that 1:1 truck. Now run it into a 6in tall rock weighing in at 10lbs. Thats a 4ft tall rock at 80lbs(sure it would weigh more).
I have a funny feeling the 1:1 truck would break just a little more than an Aarm!

AAHH! but the monster gt isn't built by AE. it's built by TTR for AE. that's like saying you want to buy a ferrari, but have it built by volkswagen.
i have been a diehard AE driver ever since i can remember, but i disagree with the decision to have a truck built by another company, and then put your name on it. i'm not saying it's wrong,i just think AE could've done it themselves.
that's why i bought a LST.

Back in the day Yokomo and Associated were affiliated.
The Porsche 944 was designed and built by Audi. Doesn't mean anything.

to some it means nothing,to others,it means everything. i raced back in the day (i'm over 40),and i remember sharing of parts between AE and Yokomo.
i'm not bashing Associated for it,i just think they could've done it in-house, that's all.

Not to get too far into AE and disregard the LST.
I have never bought a Losi kit, but have heard good things about their kits. They were the first that I can remember that had Graphite parts and such with the JR Pro (?).
Anyway, maybe I was too young at the time, but I have only had problems when building Associated kits. I had problems with two of my three AE kits. The RC10LS 1992/1993 version and the RC10GT Team in 2001.

Are the larger shocks on the LST teflon coated or are they raw aluminum?

Importing another companies cars is one thing but having someone else making it for you is another. Especially when its Thundertiger.

I have the LSt and it is really a beast! I mean i jumped the thing over a 4 foot bulkhead into the air at about 30 MPH and it hit a pole! It spun, landed on its back and was still running! Not to mention this thing HAULS!!! That stock Mach .26 is sick! I have one of the first that came out and have had NO problems at all except for the clutch at first but that was my fault? The only thing i think they should or you should upgrade when getting it is the clutch? You DONT have to and it does not need it but it would be better with a Werks Clutch in it!
