I was wondering if anyone could help me out....

I have a problem with my tmaxx...

The car was originally running 20t bell and 72 spur and was shifting
fine. After eating gears, I took your guys' advice and changed to a
52t spur and 13t bell with 1/8 style pitch. This changes the gear
ratio and gave it more bottom end. When I started it, I made sure to
keep the slipper really loose (using stock slipper pegs (12) and
disks). It ran fine except it wouldn't shift. So I went to the
Traxxas FAQ and figured out how to change the shift point to earlier.
I backed the screw out 1/8 turn. No difference. 1/4 turn more. No
difference. I finally ended up doing this about 10 times before I had
backed the set screw out so fat that it was coming out of its housing
and was catching on the plastic gear outside of it. Still no
shifting. So I decided to tighten the slipper since maybe it was not
letting enough power to the transmission. 1/8 turn. Nothing. 1/8
turn. Nothing. I turned it all the way in and backed it out 1/4.
Nothing. After this, I noticed that the slipper disk on one side had
eaten through the pegs and was eating the gear (plastic). So I
disassembled it and put in new pegs. After all of that, it still
won't shift..

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks,
Erik

What gears was your truck eating before you decided to change everything ? Your truck shouldnt be eating any gears with the other gears. RED

had too much chassis flex and eating gears, so i went for some aluminum braces... I changed to 1/8 style pitch gears for strength and so i could use my buggy clutches....

Your truck is not going to go as fast with the new gears. Are you sure it isn't already in second? Also, go and reset it. Screw it al the way in. You may find that it was already in second.

okay. ill try that tomorrow... If its in 2d gear already, then it has some massive torque since in was wheelieing with the 13t. i tried a 15t clutch bell today with the screw still where i left it (all the way out) and it was still not shifting....

thanks for the advice, I will try screwing it in all the way tomorrow...

I'm thinking that you might have something damaged inside the transmission, Check the shifting fork. RED

This not might be the problem but earlier this year My T-maxx would not shift. I did basic tear down after a big race to look for broken stuff after putting it back together it would not shift. Tigtened slipper, replaced clutch shoes, and then decided to install a Robinson Racing slipper. Still would not shift! Got real mad let it sit for a couple of days. A friend brought over his T-maxx to work on his setup. While looking down at the front of his T-maxx standing in front of it I noticed that the shiny screws that hold the diff carrier together were on the right! Mine where on the left! I had put my diffs in up side down! To go foward I was really in reverse gear. It was shifting but because of the lower reverse gear ratio it was shifting into second gear almost instantly. This also caused a lower top end because it was geared down. I flipped the diffs around and life was good again. Not one of my brighter moments! :D
Look down at either end of your truck while standing at that end. The screw that holds your diff carrier together should be to your right.
The problem with mine ended up being a loose nut at the controls. ;)
This still makes laugh thinking about it six months later!

Hope this helps or at least make you laugh!
