How do you propose setting up the airflow so you can have air cooling? I have a Homelite engine set up that way, there's a shrouded fan similar to what you find on leaf blowers and lawn mowers. I haven't seen many nitro engines set up with air cooling in boats, the last one I had was a Cox Sea Bee with a .049 engine. The fan, such as it was, couldn't have been very effective because it was unshrouded and therefore the airflow was undirected. I doubt that it would work on larger engines that way.

It can be done, but I wonder how far you want to go in "re-inventing the wheel". You may have to make the fan, then the shrouding in order to force the airflow past the engine's fins. On the other hand, water cooling in boats is already well established. Buy the parts, install, and go.
