i'm thinking about a firefighter .12 with a serio (sp?) .18 engine. would it work or is that too much motor for that boat? i know a few of you guys have the ff's so i figured i'd ask.

Nope, it'll take it. If you ever plan on racing it, I'd stay with a good .12 otherwise you'll have to race against the .21's.

I think a .18 would be fine powerwise in a FF.12. It is a rigger after all. But the Sirio I think you are talking about might be a challenge to make work. Is that the one for the T-maxx? If so it has an odd back plate, SG crank and slide carb that are not ideal for boats. Eric Perez puts TRX 2.5's in riggers with the slide carb so it is doable, but I think the Sirio is too much $ for a motor that is on par with a equally expensive .12 that will drop right in and even be competition legal. My .02. I use a Sirio S-15 that is the 5 port turbo in mine and the hull handles it no problem.

i'm not really too worried about the cost. a buddy of mine offered me the t-maxx that the engine is in for $50. he doesn't run it and just wants to get rid of it. so i'm basically getting a motor and radio for 50 bones. not a bad deal. hell, the package enen includes a spare battery for my electric buggy. bonus!! the hardware will be the most expensive part for this project, i think i'll use fuller's hardware. i'm not worried about racing classes, because i run by myself.

Just about every FF.12 I have seen uses the Speedmaster hardware. That is including the WR holder at 80mph plus. I got all my hardware, including bits and pieces like flywheel, flex and drive dog etc, for less $90 from Gary P.. Don't skimp on the hardware and go with what you know works, hydros are hard enough to setup.
