The starter unit that comes with the LST is supposed to be one of the best in the business now that they made the whole gearset metal. As for a drill, cordless for sure, I used a 14.4 volt on high range for my MGT engine. Anything you have laying around for a cordless drill should be fine.

I would say roto-start. I had to use my 14.4v drill on high torque to start my friends Savage 25. It didnt have enough jam in high speed  It took forever
The battery was fully chargerd too
My roto start feels like it has enough jam to start my 250 atv  :D

I use the supplied rotostart with mine and no problems except for stripping out the original plastic gear.I also have as a back up an old makita 9.6 volt drill and it starts it up fine as well
hope this helps
I think rotostart doesn't spin in the right direction for the LST!
