Hey I just wanted to post about this great boat since I do not see enough talk about it around here, aside from it being underrated, let alone very unknown.
About 2 years back The Sharper Image designed an RC Boat named the "Wave Ripper", which uses the technology and engineering very similar if not the same as today's common and very popular "Zig Zag Racer, Zig Zag Racer 2, and the Danvo Mini Star.
I personally own both a Wave Ripper and a Zig Zag 2 Racer, and they both have their pros and cons:
1.) Digital proportional steering: ZZ2:Yes WR:No
2.) Digital proportional throttle: ZZ2:Yes WR:No
3.) Fully sealed body: ZZ2:No WR:Yes
4.) Battery amperage: ZZ2: 900mah WR:1000mah
5.) 380 Mabuchi Motor: ZZ2:Yes WR:Yes
6.) Self Righting capability: ZZ2: Great 90% WR: Perfect 100%
7.) Reverse: ZZ2:No WR:Yes
8.) Water Polo Equipment: ZZ2:Yes WR:No
9.) Speed at 10mph+: ZZ2:Yes WR:Yes
10.) 2 Battery packs with Purchase: ZZ2:No WR:Yes
11.) Multiple channels: ZZ2:Yes WR:Yes
As you can see, both boats have pros and cons that sort of even themselves out. I have even raced a wave ripper with one of my zig zags, and they are side by side. In fact, sometimes the "full throttle only" characteristic of the Wave Ripper darts it ahead of the ZZ2 almost every time! So then what should be a reason to buy it??? THE PRICE!!!
Most of us have a tight budget, and speed does not always come cheap. Good enough for us though is, that the Wave Ripper did not get enough popularity and advertisement as it's counterparts did, so it has DRASTICALLY dropped in market price, and The Sharper Image is doing everything possible to liquidate stock. I am talking about nearly 75-80% drop. This boat originally listed at $159.99, yet now it's going on eBay for as little as $18.95!
Here is the link for the eBay store page of The Sharper Image with the Wave Rippers: http://search.ebay.com/_Boats_W0QQcatrefZC12QQsacategoryZ19165QQsassZtheQ 5fsharperQ5fimageQQsorecordsperpageZ50QQsosortprop ertyZ1
Stock up while you can, I already got two of them to race at the lake. It does exactly as it's name implies... it rips up the waves.
Hope you found this mini review helpful!
