My first run with the Bandit... busted starter. Test fired it on the stand at home & it worked fine. Got to the lake, first pull........ SNAP!
The trick is to pull easy on the cord till it engages the flywheel. Then POP it over. Don't pull hard with a lot of slack & the teeth jump to the dog. I always pull mine over till it engages but the first one broke.
What I've done is bought a few that are not OEM (orriginal engine manufact.). These seem to work fine & are about half the price.
Also have some of the plastic dogs on order from Rocket City. For $4 ea. I've got a dozen on the way.

So far I havn't had any problems with my starter after months of tugging on it. I even tugged on it with the case half full of water :o (by accident).
Just do as DD said and you won't have any problems. Pull lightly till it enggages then let her rip.
On another note wasn't some one sopposed to have been woking on a
V-Start for Zenoahs? That would be to COOL then even my 12month old son would be able to start her up.

We used to break a lot of them on the G-23's due to the very high compression ratios we were running. A few guys have broken them on 260's within the first day or so of running. I think they may have had a bad batch of plastic, because most 260's don't break the starter dog ever. The compression ratio in the 260's isn't as high and they have a single-ring piston that allows them to turn over easier. Quickdraw engines use a single ring and the same starter as the Zenoah, so should have the same problems (or not). It's standard procedure for racers to have a complete spare pull-starter assembly in their tool box just in case. We've also experimented with a v-groove pulley and using a nitro boat belt starter on them, but it's a pain to haul a 24-volt battery and the starter everywhere you go.

The V-start I was refering to is the one used on the Fuji marine engine. You can pull the cord out slowly if you want because all that does is build up tension in the starting spring. Once you release the starter rope the tension in the spring releases and engages the starter dog which turns the engine over. So you pulling the rope only winds the spring up. The spring starts the engine.

That would be great. Kinda reminds me of when I was a kid and one of my friends had a little Cox powered control line airplane. The engine had a spring that was basically like that.

Exactly, I had a Cox .049 engine to. You had to be quick pulling your fingers away after starting that thing. :o
