Kyosho Japan has announced a new, updated version of the popular FW-05R competition nitro touring sedan, the new FW-05RR. The RR incorporates some of the same features originally seen on the IFMAR World Champion V-One-RRR car.
According to early details from Kyosho, the new RR is optimized for competition with the popular foam touring car tires. The front suspension has new steering hubs, upper suspension arm mounts and upper hinge pins. The steering hubs supposedly have better Ackerman geometry for even faster cornering speeds. The new front suspension is also stronger to prevent flexing during hard cornering. New front drive shafts are also rumored to be included.
The rear suspension features new lower arms and rear hubs that feature a vertical mount for the upper camber arm. Roll center is optimized with the new hubs and can be adjusted in very small increments using shims.
A woven carbon fiber upper deck completes the package. First seen on the "Special Chassis Kit" version of the original car, the lighter and stronger upper deck reinforces the chassis and further reduces the center of gravity on a car that already has the lowest CG in class.
A conversion kit will reportedly be available for current owners of the FW-05R.

I knew this was coming from the beginning.
Wait, but there will be more... FW-05RRR :D
Between FW-05R and V-one-RR, I chose V-1-RR, which I still regret a lot. :(
It's good to see Kyosho is keeping improving its product.

V-One-RRR... FW-05RR... I tell you what, keeping across all these updates is a right pain in the R's!
(one for the British readers methinks!)

I agree. Kyosho and Tamiya need to rethink how they come up with these names. I can never keep them straight.

I'm halfway there as I already run the 3R hubs, big improvement.
The 05 is an easy lap faster than the V1 I had, I just wish the belt cars would get out the corners a bit quicker.

It looks like the Tamiya TG10-Mk.2. I guess this car is for people who prefers shaft driven over the V-One RRR belt drive.
No, the new Tamiya looks a lot like this car. The new TG10 is almost a direct copy of the original FW-05R. Its a little disappointing - I expect more from Tamiya.
This looks like a very nice car. I would take it over the RRR. The shaft requires so much less maintenance and I'll bet with the new suspension geometry the RR will be a better car than the belt drive RRR.

Tamiya does work with many other companies.
Now this is pure conjecture, but I wouldn't be surprised if Tamiya and Kyosho worked on this car together.
Just like O.S. and Tamiya work together sometimes.

..or maybe just slapping an engine on any random chassis and designing some random suspension system just doesn't cut it any more. ;)
Manufacturers know what does and does not work. It would be pointless to make a car that handles like crap just because its different.

Kyosho and Tamiya work together??? bit like saying Serpent and Mugen work together.
Kyosho has had this design for at least 10 years, it was used in the SuperTen FW03, then again in the FW04, only major difference for the FW05 is the reduction in width from 220mm to 200mm.
The TG10 had the motor on the other side (NTC3 style) but like Ofna's CD3, Tamiya has followed Kyosho's route with the TG10 Mk2.
Also don't forget that HPI was the first to have this layout in the 200mm width with the Nitro RS4/3.
Steve:
The front end does not have roll centre adjustment, but is much stiffer in the suspension arm support area, and the conversion kit is available (I have it).

Nimo - thanks for the info. I stand corrected. ;)

Actually, the Mugen Prime-12 was out way before that. It was out even before their own MTX-2 IIRC.

I've heard of the prime 12, but it was never seen on UK shores so I know nothing of the car, and shouldn't that be MSX-3 as I'm sure MTX-2 was belt driven.

What I meant was the Prime-12 was out way back even before the MTX-2 was released back in '00. I think it's even Mugen's first ever 200mm nitro touring car.

i think those belt cars dont pull out oof corners as fast because the kevlar belts arent as solid as a plastic or steel bevel gear, if only they would make chain driven :D

Is this car better than a NTC3. Could I drive this car on a newly paved parking lot?

ive never even driven my kyosho fw-05r, then i went ahead and upgraded it to rr status, so i wont know the difference in performance, but i have a question, my steering seems not very smooth, and i can tell any servo would have a hard time turning it, what should i change or loosen that could affect the steering. also, i have never even raced a nitro touring car, so do you guys have any advice for me and using the fw-05rr to get started...

I just bought a FW05RR as a shaft driven car’s fan.
However I always used to drive with differentials on front and rear (my V-One RRR has diff on front axle) and I am having hard times to get used and find a good setup on my FW05RR with one way on front.
The track is mid traction and mi biggest problem is on brakes as I like to get into turns very fast.
Anny oppinions/tips are most welcome.
Thanks!

What's the car doing that you don't like? I realize it's been a while, but hey... figured I'd take a shot at it.

I thought I would let everyone here know that FW-05RR's are now available again in the USA. Kyosho America has just received them this morning. Contact your local Kyosho dealer to pick one up.

I now have most of the current shaft driven nitro cars.
I have the NTC3 and the RS4 3, and I just picked up the FW-05R converted to an RR and the Tamiya replica the TG 10 Mk. 2.
Can someone please share their set up on the FW.
