where about on the back of the sponson would i put the turnfin on a 1/8 scale hydro. and what size do i need

i think they line up on the outside of the ride-pad, with a slight inward angle. the size is something you'll want to play with. start out with something that "looks" right and go from there. if the boat turns super-good but seems a little slow...trim the fin down. you'll know when you've trimmed too far when the boat gets loose in a turn, then you just go back a size in other words you may have to make more than one fin. it's a matter of balancing your speed and turning ability.

i've always just made my own. you can get aluminum sheet at most LHS's or a store like Lowe's. i use a small piece of aluminum "L" bracket as a mount and cut the fin from the sheet. it doesn't take much to build one...let alone a couple so that you can test out different lengths and shapes.

Most of the boats have the skid fin mounted over the outboard edge of the sponson bottom and angled in at the bottom. The majority of the fins are 1.5 to 2 inches wide and 2.5 to 3 inches long on the boats I've been around. The angle the skid fin is mounted at is subject to experimentation, so be ready to do a lot of adjusting to get it right.
