Well with regards to a 1/8th scale hydro I am getting ready to build, I'm curious as to what size prop, shaft, strut, rudder and skid fin I need. I am going to a large annual swap meet for hobby enthusiasts at the end of the month.

Im going to use a .65 or a .67 It just demends on which one I can find first. I do not plan on racing in a club but I just want a fun boat that I built my self.

You will need a 3/16th solid or flex shaft(your preferance), an adjustable strut, an engine mount(rubber damped is preferred), an approx 2.5X1.5-2" skid fin and adjustable mounting bracket, and a 2.5-3" rudder with a kick-up bracket. I know of several people that make these, or you can buy comercially made stuff. I would start with around an Octura 1445 and experiment from there. You might also check with the Prop Shop and get a recommendation from them. Were you refering to the Puyallup Model Expo in February? R/CU normally tries to set up a venders booth where you can ask questions as well.

That would be the one!!! I have never paid attention to the size of the parts in the past and now that I need them I'm not sure of the specifics.

With regards to the rudder, what is a kick up bracket??? Shouldn't it also have a water pick up on it?

A "kick up" bracket is one that lets the rudder pivot up and back if it hits something. The are required by the local hydro clubs to prevent boat damage in the event of a collission. They require the skid fin to be able to pivot up as well for the dame reason. Depending on the hardware you get, many rudders have a machined in water pick up. They eliminate the need for a separate pick up and reduce drag and increase speed, in theory if nothing else. The only manufacturer I can think of that makes the rudder bracket with a water pick up(which you have to install yourself) is Dumas, but it's not legal for racing as it's a hard mounted system(no kick up ability)

HJ, I found a new motor. Its a .60. It is rated a 2.5 hp at 22k rpms. Cost is a huge factor and for what I paid for it the cost of a .65 or .67 is not worth the extra money. Again I do not plan to race for I just dont have the time. This is just something to play around with on the lake. Do the flex shafts come in certain lenghts or do you cut them down to the desired length. Do you plan on going to the swapmeet? I know that is a long trip for you to make.

As for the flexshafts, you can probably order the length you need. If not, I know of some people who could probably make one up for you, when you get to that point. Yes, I plan on going to the swap meet. Hoping to see a Futaba booth there this year, though they haven't made the last few I was at. With my schedule, it will probably be on Sunday.

I think it's scheduled for the first weekendin February. I would check with Ultimate Hobbies, they would most likely know for sure.
