After reading that Big Wig's track took 42 tons of dirt to make I got kinda discoraged. Is there anyway you could build a ramp out of wood and pack dirt on it? Or mabye you could put two boards together and drill a bunch of little holes on the top board for the dirt to hold on to. If any of you have any suggestions on how to save dirt for ramps (or anything else) please help me out.
Thanks,
David :)

One of the methods my track uses is to stack big, rail-road tie type thicknesses of wood where you want the jump. one tie= small jump, 3 ties in a triangular shape = bigger... you get the idea.
then pack dirt around the wood to make the jump. hope this helps...

Yeah that's one of the best ways. If they're building any developments near you the construction workers would probably be willing to let you have the logs from the trees they've cut down cause otherwise they have to pay for their disposal :) Another thing you can do is go to the junkyard/dump and get old beat-up sinks and bathtubs and turn those over and cover them w/ dirt.

Skip's got the idea. If you use just a board, as soon as the dirt dried it would slide right off.

I have a plan, I've done this in my little back yard track. Take a large piece of railroad tie (or anything about the same size), put it flat (horizontal) on the ground and pack dirt against it. The bigger the piece of wood, the more dirt. It worked for me.
