i was looking on Newtons website to purchase some hydro plans.
I know they are 1/8 scale...but I cannot find out how large the original boats were?
I was looking for one in the 46"-55" range. What was the average length of round nose hydros? and does anyone know the largest shovelnose that raced?
Thanks
Kevin

Roger didn't put sizes on the boats because the sizes are listed in the MASTER HULL ROSTER. This roster tells the full sizes of the boats, as well as the scale dimensions for length, width, tunnel width, afterplane length, hull depth and picklefork depth. It can be found in the information section of R/C Unlimiteds website. The address is www.rcunlimiteds.org.
As for the average length, the boats all fell into the 28 to 32 foot range, averaging about thirty feet long, with a few exceptions. There were a few that were 34 feet long. These included the 1952 Such Crust III, the 1953 Such Crust III, the 1957 Thriftway II, the 1962 Such Crust, and the 1974 Miss Lapeer. There was one 35 footer, the 1968 Atlas Van Lines, but the largest was the 36 foot monster, the 1959 Gale IV.
