dose a boat engine have more power than a plane engine (.30boat = to a .30plane engine)
and if so would the .30 out of my boat have more power than my .40 out of my plane (there both os max s i think)

The biggest difference is the RPM rating. A marine engine will turn a lot more RPM than an aircraft engine. If memory serves, an airplane engine usually tops out at around 16K, while a good marine racing engine turns better than 23K. To go any further, you would need to go to the OS website and check the stat page for both your engines.

In my experiences it was a total waist of time getting a plane engine to turn a boat prop. No Rrrrr's.

A good marine motor is turning a lot more Rs than that, more like 30k under load. And no aero motors in boats you say? You didn't forget about sport 40-I did you?

I was using what I knew to be top end for the .67/.82 sized boat engines from OS as a baseline for the 23K figure. Last I knew, the .82 listed at 23K and the .67 at 25K. As for the Sport 40-I, it used to be a factory modded airplane engine with the water cooled head. I have an HB 20 marine that is the same way, an aircraft engine with a water cooled head with a top speed of 16K. Bought it back in 1982, when I was young and stupid for my 30" Dumas Pay N' Pak. Might explain why I could never get it up on plane. Too heavy of boat and not enough power to get it there

OS are great motors for reliable easy to tune power. That said, their motors are not known for high numbers.
