Hello
I am looking to buy a new ac/dc charger and dont really know what to buy . Currently i own 2 novak ionic ac/dc chargers and dont really care for them . Everyone is trying to get me to buy competition electronics gfx but i really dont want to spend $ 400.00 on a charger and still have to buy a $ 100.00 power supply . I race dirtoval mainly for fun and do not plan on going to any big races , i dont own a com lathe , or anything that i need a power supply or the extra features that the competition electronics chargers can do , and personally for my use i think something like that is just overkill . The only chargers so far that i have looked at are the ones made by integy but dont know much about them and would like some input on these and what ever other ideas you guys have would be greatly appriciated . thanks

Welcome to the forums!
A charger you can consider is the Piranha digital peak charger. Its a cheap but effective charger and very flexible charging pretty much everything from AAs to stick pacs, rx or tx pacs and gel cells. Has all the basics, is easy to set up and its well know limit is it'll only charge at 3amps on AC. If you put it on DC, it'll charge at 5amps.

I would go for a Tekin 112c. You can read all about them here: www.teamtekin.com
Good luck with whatever you get.

The piranha's are not all that great. My friend has one but it keeps shutting down on him. Im with cabbynate on this one. The 112c's are the best bang for your buck.
You cant go wrong with them, plus you can add chargers on to it like the 112a which is what it was ment for.

duratrax false peak? (thats atm's line) i'd have to say novak ionic. $70 and it can charge nicd and nimh and it charges at .5, 1 and 4 (i think) and it charges 4-8 batteries (to charge 8 you need a power supply) and the great thing is that if you decide you want a power supple you can just hook it up!

THe Reedy Quasar Pro is really good but costs nearly $200. Otherwise the Integy series are pretty good. On a side note- although you said you don't want a powersupply, you can get a pretty good one for $40 at pro-match racing. I have it, and the thing works great.

yeah i agree integy ones are probably one of the better ones that do it all the down fall to the reedy pro is that it cant charge more than 1amp on 7 cell and above thats why I sold mine after the upgrade.

Look at the novac milenium, or the LRP competition 2, both are high grade chargers that will not break the bank and will give you the best posible charge for the money, and are compact, The pro's use them, watch the pit's when they race, so they cannot be a bad choice.

I bought my send and Indi Integy 16x4 pro charger for $140. It has many features and is very easy to use. I know few people who've had them for yrs and they are still strong. Great stuff for the price. I could've gone with a Vision charger or something inexpensive, but I wouldn't be as happy as the Integy. Expensive, but now I have a charger that can basically charge ALL of my battery packs and serve me well for future electric racing.

I know this is probably not what your looking for but I would go for Triton charger. They go for about $130 new so your looking at about $170 with a power supply but they can charge just about anything, even you car(1:1) battery. So if you ever want to go with Lipolys or something your already set. And its a proven great charger. If I had the money, I would so buy one. But as for now I gotta stick with my modded superbrains. Took 3 hours of work so those dam things wouldnt false peek

I will give another vote for the Tekin BC 112C. I've owned this charger for years and it has worked flawlessly. I recently had the software upgraded so it can charge nimh batteries so now it is better than ever.

I wanted to get a Tekin 112C but I ended up getting a MRC 969 Pro Super Brain and I just picked up another brain in a trade. I'm very happy with them and the support from MRC.

I purchased the vision charger b/c my 16x4 took a crap. While it was working it did a great job, but the fan quit and integy kept giving me the run around.

If there's one thing Novak makes that I don't care for, it's their chargers. I definately wouldn't suggest a Millenium Pro.
LRP's are nice, but they're damned pricey. One exception is the Pulsar Sport. It's on sale for 80 bux right now from Stormer. You're not gonna find more charger for less money, period. Between that and that power supply from Pro-Match, you'd have an awesome setup for about 135 bux, including shipping. That's unbeatable.

If a fan is all you need, I can hook you up, or you can go to radioshack and get a new one for like 12 buks. They really arent that hard to find or install. I have a 16X2 and added an extra fan for added cooling. Works like a charm, never feals warmer then ice.

I never had a problem with mine so far and it didn't overheat. :)

the 16x4 didn't overheat, the fan is screwed up. It will still charge but you can hear the charger's fan 2 rooms away. If I were adding to this post a couple of months ago I would have highly recommended the 16x4. As of now, I have an incredibly loud charger and a manufacturer that doesn't care to help (biggest thing to me). I am going to replace the fan with one from an electronic store. Just don't think that should have to do that with less than a years service.

Thanks street, I will be replacing the fan. I personally think this is premature failure and wished that the manufacturer would have handled this. On the otherhand, I am capable of replacing the fan.

Sorry for OT, but minijosh how do you like 969? my previous charger broke, and im forced to get new one and 969 seems fairly priced, and with nice features. What do you think about it? And maybe you would be willing to sell one?
Thanks

I have had 2 other friends who bought the same charger and one of those guys had 2 of them. They work great so far. I had to send it into them for warrenty work. The power supply will overheat so you need some air movement on them. I wish it had a real cycle program so I could just let it run like my Duratrax did. Charges only at 4.5 but that's good enough for my 3300's. I'd like it to charger up to 7. That would be wicked. I got a adapter from MRC to hook up 2 of their power supplies and I can charge a true 4.5 out of both channels. I can discharge and charge at the same time with no worries. Only one channel does both and the second only charges.

well ive had 959 but recently my cat dropped it off shelf (again) and display stopped working, so im forced to get new charger, and i cant find anything similarly priced with as much features, i mostly care about price, and than discharge feature. In my whole life ive charged at 4,5A only 2-3 times, so its not big problem. But i really like 2 channels and discharge feature.

After all the chargers I have been through this is what I ended up with (LRP Pulsar Sport). Got two off ebay at sperate times for a total of $100.00 shipped and I use the Radio Shack version of the CE 23 amp power supply I got on sale for $60.00. Works great.

So what would be best bet for nitro racer, im leaning towards 969 due to 2 output channels, discharge function, and that its possible to power it using wall socket (its rather important for me).
Is there anything that can beat it for that money?? With as many functions?

I currently have Millennium pro which I love it gives me a charge as good as any top line charger, I have compared it with my race packs on other friends chargers, turbo's,tekins, lrp's, ect. Just as good, just does not have some of the features the others have. ADA I have hade my 969 for over a year and it functions flawlessly,( to my surprise) it charged my race packs to equal numbers as my novac. I use my on power supply and I could charge my E-Maxx packs at 4.5 amps each, no problems. I have used the supplied power supply as well with no problems as well.
