go to www.sandhillsraceway.com and you will find info about the track and points of contact.

I live about five miles from the speedway... give me a call if you want me to show you where it is. 910-692-7797... If you look at the directions on the website it is pretty easy to miss the place... however, if you are coming from southern pines on hwy 1 the hwy is four lanes... just before it turns into two lanes is the speedway... if you are heading north (away from southern pines) then it will be on your left.... Good luck.

About how far from Raleigh is the track?
I know it is near Vass, but I don't know how far that is either.

between 30 and 45 miles depending on where you live in raleigh. check the north carolina map and you can see where Vass is (it is about 10 miles north of Southern Pines).

Todd, howz the track? I heard it's too small for gas trucks....and now they even want 1/8 buggies to come out ???
I've seen that there have been upwards of 15 or so guys out there practicing.
Did they get rid of that over/ under?
astainback
04-04-2005, 06:45 AM
leadfoot, a guy that i know in raleigh (haven't talked to him in quite a while) said that the track there is perfect for tmaxxes. I that is the case.. 1/8th scale buggies shouldnt' be a problem...
Does anyone have a picture?
Sierra06
04-04-2005, 07:37 AM
The longest stretch is 110 feet long with no bumps.. the rest of the track has quite a few bumps and jumps. Yes the over and under is still there and the turn after you come out of the pits has a series of nasty little awkward bumps that really slow you down but are quite nice. then there is a series of three jumps a corner a nice sized tabletop and the straight away and then the over and under and the start all over again. I imagine that must have bee confusing. I will try to get some pics and post them here. The off road track is getting its own website and it should be up pretty soon. When I get the address I will post it here. I didn't go out to the track this past weekend, too much yard work to do. However, I will be there next weekend. Later. Todd. :)

I practiced there this past weekend. The track is in great shape. We had quite a few racers show up for practice including an 1/8th scale which had no problem getting around the track. The first race is April 23rd and the web site can be found at http://bigpermraceway.tripod.com/.

thanks for the link. Looks like the layout didn't change from last year. The pot hole before the turn up to the tabletop has been filled in. I think I liked the hole better. It does look too small for a 1/8.
MayhemMan
04-06-2005, 04:25 PM
Can run an 1/8th scale there but it is real tight. and you can just about give up on side by side racing in the 1/8th scales. it is perfect for electric, seeing as how that is the largest class out there I see why. There are some great people out there that is for sure. And then there are a few that are real you know whats. Go check it out, you might like it, but for me it is too small and doesn't have big enough or enough jumps for me.

This Saturday will be the first race at Sandhills Raceway for the 2005 season. It will also be a double points race for those running the points series. The track is located on HWY 1 just on the other side of Sanford. It takes me just an hour to get there from Chapel Hill. If anyone from the triangle area is interested in checking out an off road race on a nice track, come on out. If you plan on racing, bring a pit table. Electricity is provided.

Mr. Cash
04-19-2005, 01:50 PM
Of course you can. I'm not sure what size table I can bring ya' but I will make sure I bring something with four legs. Which car (truck) are you bringing? I am racing Stock Truck and Stock Buggy and a friend of mine is running Stock Truck also. I hope to run some Mod this summer but it seems as if stock is always more popular in off road.

The next race is May 14th. I missed the first race but they had a good turnout. They had a full class of stock truck with 10 entries. They also had several gas trucks and 1/8th scales. I will definately be there for the 14th. (a band of evil mutant ninjas couldn't keep me away) lol

didn't make the perm race. did yall have fun? ran the monkeybottom race here in lexington. (kinda nice not driving 2 hrs to go race...only 13 minutes). ran the 4wd mod class..only 3 of us but the other two guys are TOUGH!! wound up TQin and takin tha' win!! woooo-hoooooo!!! just can't beat a mindblown, babie!!!!!! breaking the xxx4 back down again. some people are intrested in buying it. hopefully i'll be back on the blacktop. the pro4's been very upset with me lately. she says it's "unfair" that i let the dirt eaters play and not let her "cut loose" LOL.
so after this weekend she'll be back in'ah game. but until the 4wd is sold (or traded) i wont have the $$$ to get a competitive truck.

The perm had some glitches today. The computer loop went on the fritz. Everything had to get pushed later into the day. I left at 3 when they were working on it and had to start all the heats over again. I did manage to snap one shot of the elec. buggies before their first heat.

Hey Pete, You were right, That was me. First time racing for me in about a year.. Been tied up on building our house,so R/C took a back seat. But now it's done and I'm BACK!!
Had a really good time Sat., Lot's of electrics :) :) and lot's of good clean racing for everybody.. Some of the best A main racing I've ever had a chance to be a part of.. Full class of ten in A with some of "CLEANEST" racing , All were very nice and let the leaders by with out taking us out, and beleive me that makes us all faster!!
Can't beleive I got 14 laps after not picking up a radio for almost a year.
But the top 3 in the A got 14, Awsome!!
Mr. Cash
05-16-2005, 09:02 AM
You missed it Pete. We had a great time this past weekend. That is my XXX in black with the flamed out paint job. I was able to TQ and win but not without a huge challenge by Mark. We swapped the lead twice on the final lap.
I had the most fun in truck. They had 16 entries. I qualified 4th and hit the first turn pipe in the main. I climbed back up to 5th before it was said and done but would've liked to have been up front the whole time. I cannot wait until the next race. I hope you are able to obtain a truck, Pete.

Haven't raced electric trucks in some time but still have the truck. What motor do most use for stock and what size batteries? One more for you is there a shop with parts and stuff??
Thanks
Mr. Cash
06-30-2005, 09:16 AM
The truck class is the most popular. We have been having 12-17 trucks every points race. Stock buggy usually pulls 5-8 entries per race. We are not running this weekend due to the holiday but they are doing a track maintenance/practice day Saturday. Check the web site and Carolina R/C forums for details. The next points race is July 9th.
Spacecowboy - Almost any stock motors work well on this track. I would stay away from the high rpm stockers and go with a motor with good torque such as the P2K series or Orion Core motors. There is a hobby shop there but they stock mostly oval stuff. Most off roaders make sure they have the necessities.

Hey all... Just wanted to say hello and let ya know I will be joining ya's for a few races in the near future. My name is John Tag and I am part owner of Express Motorsports. I just moved to NC 3 weeks ago and been doing some touring racing so far and am looking to hit some jumps with my T4 to prepare for the regionals. Was looking to see what the tire choise is in stock truck. Around where I am here they don't have any off road racing they are mixing nitro and electric /lipo cell..to me thatsnot what I'm looking for. I like roar style races 5 min electric. Anyhow any info on tires would be great . I see P2K2's are good there by some posts..coll I got pleanty seeing I tune over 30 a week..LOL See ya's soon.

Hi John. I have been running Holeshots on the rear and Losi directionals on the front. That combo has worked well when the track is dry and when it is moist. Some truckers have been running well with IFMAR Pins and a Panther tire. We do run ROAR style and I do not think that will change anytime soon so c'mon out. The next race is July 9th. When do you think you might come out? I would like to pick up a tuned P2K from you when you come.

Hi John. No there is not a race this weekend but there is a race the following weekend on the 23rd. The race is called the Manafacturer's Duel and they will be practicing from 9am-7pm on Friday the 22nd. With the turnout they are expecting, you should be able to sell quite a few motors. Let me know if you are coming. I want to try one of your P2k2.

Just want to prepare so I can get a room in hte area. I will Def. be there. I will be sure to tune a good amount of P2K2s as I ran 1 this weekend in Durham for touring stock and all but TQd and won the A with it. So they are sure great motors. John, I'm glad you will be able to make it. From what I understand, it is a trophy race. It is a 2 day event with Friday practice and the mains on Sat. You will need to shop for tires because they do not stock much for off road. You can find more info on their web site at http://bigpermraceway.tripod.com/.
I am not sure about practice during the week. If you post at http://www.carolinasrc.com/forum/forum_topics.asp?FID=31, someone there can answer your question. Looking forward to meeting you because I have only heard good things about Express.

You will need to bring an Easy-Up and a pit table. There is electricity but no food. He might have something to eat at this race but not normal weekly races. A cooler is a must. Makes a good place to cool those motors when it is 96 degrees outside. You will like it at the Sandhills. Good people that are easy to get along with. tires: use what ever tires you feel com-fer-tAbul with. at the PERM i used pro-line EdgeM3 fronts with Losi Kingpin REDS in the rear. hope this helps.
