Hello,
I've got a Maxx with MIP CVDs which I installed last race season. At the time I had Trinity Aluminum hexes which I didn't realize were rubbing against the knuckle. In any case during my winter rebuild I've replaced the knuckle's and the hexes with Traxxas aluminum ones (hardcore knuckles). The traxxas do not rub but have a slightly oposite problem. There is a very small amount of space between the hex and the bearing in the knuckle. As a result there is a small amount of play that you can feel when you tighten down the wheels and wiggle them.
(there is a question coming) I'm wondering if this small amout of play is "normal" or "ok" or if I should try to shim it out. I have some small shims which do fit around the CVD axel but putting even one on removed all the play and I'm concerned it may be binding (like the old hex was). Is this something I should do? Shim it? or am I making a big deal out of something ultra small. As I said, even one of these thin babies removes ALL the play, it doesn't feel tight but I wonder if its putting undue pressure on the bearing.
Any advice would be helpful.
Thanks,
MacII
