Hey guys im new to this site. Just wondering what everyone thought of the Revo. I was gonna go with the Tmaxx but ive been reading alot about the Revo and now im not sure. Definatly gonna race it but also for messing around as are all my racers. Any help would be great.

Revo would be a great racer/basher truck. :)

I have some questions about both the T-Maxx and the Revo. As far as toughness and the chance of breaking pieces, which is the better truck for bashing (I am not going to be racing at all)? Also, would most of you probably suggest going ahead and taking out the 2.5 engine and replacing it with one of the bigger .18-.23 engines? I would probably put a rotostart backend on it, does Traxxas sell these or where should I get one? It looks to me like the T-Maxx has more ground clearance than the Revo, am I right? The optidrive unit on the Revo, can it be disconnected and taken out of the Revo and still be able to run the truck? Any other comments on which one to get would be greatly appreciated from you T-Maxx and Revo owners. Thanks.

stock a revo is allot stronger than a maxx,I would suggest driving the truck first to see if you like it with the 2.5r,ofna sells a rotostart backplate for the 2.5/r
Actual ground clearence(lowest hanging part is about the same on every truck its where the bottom arm goes to the back of the rim).Chassis clearence is higher with the revo when at full height. The optidrive only stops you from shifting in reverse while going forward, problem is allot of them malfunction and cause the truck to shift in to reverse at top speed. The truck runs just fine without the opti-drive just dont hit the reverse switch.

Where did you hear about the reverse problems?

Thanks for the reply Darkness. So you are saying the optidrive can be unpluged and taken out of the truck and it still will run fine? I take it that it does just unplug easily to remove? I probably would take the 2.5 out without even running it and go to a bigger aftermarket engine. Which one would you suggest (O.S. 18, new RB .23)? Would a new 2.5 be easy to sell? Would anyone want one if I did this? The Revo in your opinion is a very easy truck to work on?

*thedarkness - I've seen/driven/worked on Revo's since they came out, and I haven't heard of any with an Opti-drive problem. Were the Revo's that had bad units in them run in water or something?
As far as stock vs. stock, the Revo is stronger than a Tmaxx, but with the roughly $100 difference in price between the two, a person could buy aluminum bulkheads to fix the weak stockers and have a pretty good truck. It still won't handle as well as a Revo, but it's not bad!! :)

Ive never actually seen this happen but ive heard of a few a think B!! of slap ma fro destroyed 2 trannys because of it.
luvnitro if you wanted to sell the 2.5r put it up on the traxxas forums they usually catch a fair price there. To unplug the opti drive unit just plug the throttle servo wire directly to the rx as well as the battery hook up and shift servo wire,Throttle goes in slot labeled 2, shift in 3, power at the top.The revo is very easy to work on but its alittle cramped.I would suggent going for the rb .23 because of the value to money factor.motor, pipe/header, and mount for $240

I definately suggest revo instead of tmaxx......there are many improvement on revo over tmaxx. The 2.5R was 15% stronger than 2.5. You might want to read on RCCARACTION jan2005 edition about "head to head Revo n Tmaxx"......
