Got about $350 for a crawler, don't know what to get. Any suggestions? This will be a pure crawler, speeds no more than 15mph desired with extreme crawling gear ratio.

how about a txt-1. its a crawler out of the box. though you need to shell out some more money for a good ESC, hi-torque servo and radio.
or, clod axles and a gecko clod chassis. then again, you still need some electronics.
better check out ebay. you can get some good deals with RTR clods or txt. some are already modified crawlers.

For a good crawler, you have three options that are worth checking out - The TXT-1 or clod for a big crawler, for a scale crawler check out the TLT-1. Before you make any choices, you might spend a little time at www.rccrawler.com - they have a fantastic crawling forum, and some very helpful people.

I would get a tlt-1 and use that they crawl pretty well. Just set it up with a chassis conversion a good moter with a small pinion and go have fun. You also might want to buy a radio with channel mixing for it like the 3pm incase you want 4ws.
Ya remeber use the search function & post in the newbie section or the regulars get grumpy :)Let them get grumpy! The "Regulars" don,t run this site. But anyway get a Clod thay run about 209.00 at Tower Hobbies.Used about 150.00 and up and you can find a crawler chassis for about the same.So if you go the used rout you will still have a little money left over.

I'll do things proper and post in the newbie area, about the clod thing, how do they preform with the stock chassis/suspension setup? What is needed to get them to crawl better than a stock txt-1?

Your best bet is to get a real crawler. The TXT1 is nice but you need to put alot of money in it to get it were others will be.
1. Gecko 2 chassis
2. X factor axles (2)
That is a good start and will use up your 350.00, add to it little by little and it will take a while but your building a good crawler.
Follow this link..... its the best crawler site on the net. Also 15mph is a little fast, shoot for 2 to 5 mph.

I still want to be able to play with it, and 10-15 sounds more "fun" than 2-5, I have an E-maxx transmission I could use, and the 2 speed could give me that 2-5 and 10-15 speeds. So you're saying that $350 would only get me a chassis and axles? No shocks, no motor, no anything?

if you are going to the "brand new" route, yup, $350 just for chassis and axles. (gecko 2 chassis - $200 and a pair of new clod axles - $150).

Which axles are better, Clod or X Factor? Tires might not be a problem, and I can probably snatch the electronics out of my E-maxx...

Well clod has the motors mounted on the axles themselves, so low CoG, but you need 2 motors. The x-factor axles have to be run to a center gear box. Spend some time reading and looking around rccrawler.com before you do anything, there is alot of info there.
