ok i read in a mag here not too long ago about trimming the stock chevron tires for the tmaxx (not syping )
i have a extra set of new tread and i want to do this to that set ,
i guess it makes them handle better and rounds the ends for the tread off so not as square, but i can not find the article
can someone point me in the right directoion or email me a good pic so i can see how to do this please
thank you

I did it. I messed up pretty bad too. I was using fresh razorblades and cutting each tread of the tire at a 45% angle so they look like ( triangles if viewed from a cross section of the tread. )

it takes off a considerable amount of weight.

but I cut the tire pretty bad when trying to cut each lug of tread. I ended up un mounting the tire, and using duct tape on the inside of the tire to keep it together at high speeds. I sliced it all to heck when I was trying to cut each lug. its not a matter of trying not to cut the tire, its impossible to not screw up doing it with a razor blade, and you will cut your self.

I would try finding some heavy duty sissors, either that or using a dremel tool with a cut off saw type wheel and doing it that way, but be warned. the dremel tool will make a huge terrible craZy insane mess of the tire debris when doing that. wear a mask and goggles, heck, gloves too. and dont do it inside. out in the garage, or out back would probly be the only way to go. its soo messy

I am pretty sure it was in RC Driver.

Its probably has been in a lot of magazines since its a very common modification to the maxx tires. In RCCA it was featured as a Pit Tip in the January 2005 issue. You can probably go to the main site and search under the pit tips section to find it.

Yeah, there have been a couple of pit-tip type mods. someone did a full article on modding tires and I am pretty sure it was rc driver. I dont remember what month though. I will dig through my archive.

Are you sure? I looked in the January Mag, and its right there. Are you sure it was the RC car action mag? Its at the top of page 48. Maybe you missed it.

Are the tires still in balance after cutting the corners off free-hand? How EXACT do you have to be when cutting all the corners? It seems like if some are not identically cut, the tires will be out of balance.

I haven't tried it, yet, though.

By the way, how much weight does it take of?

Thanks,
Ras
