I want to get a mt and like how the savage 25 is rtr, but from reading the forums it sounds like the roto start has been a pain for a lot of people. Is it that bad?

the only problem I cant say anything about is the anoying trend the batteries have of running out

Every starting method can be a pain lol.
Pull start - rope breaks, spring breaks, handle rests on header and melts
Electric start - gears strip, batteries need charged/replaced
Starter box - wheel wears out, need a decent sized battery to run it
There are several people with roto-starts at our track and they all say the same thing, "it beats yanking." Go for it :)

Actually the Pullstart and Starter box for many people have been proven to be better than the Electric start. Only thing for the pullstart are blisters, which can be avoided if you start the car properly, and not tugging when the engine is hydro locked. The handle shouldn't be on the header to begin with. Add more fuel tubing b/t the handle and bottom piece. The starter box wheels last a while and all you need is a car battery or the 12V battery offered at the LHS. How hard is that to miss? It's so simple. Overall I like starter boxes, but also like reliable engines with reliable pull starts. JMO.

Hi i have a savage 25ss and race it we use rota starts the old hpi switches are a little to be desired but all i did was rip that out and put a 30amp heavy duty car switch in all you have to do is cut some of the plastic out to get it to fit but by christ alot more reliable also i run 3000mah batteries in mine and they last me all day at a meeting and i use it on other peoples to alot of the trouble is that people only use 1500 or 1700mah batteries and they are not strong enough to last the days meetings apart from these 2 issues i would much rather prefer a rota start any day to pullstarts been there done that and worn the t-shirt no thanks ouch all those bloody blisters NO THANKS stay as i am
Hope this answers your question for you and good luck in the future

Rotostarts work nice if you use a strong batt like machine suggested and don't force them to turn and blow your OWB. Pullstarts are nice to but not for big blocks with LOTS of knuckle bustin' piston power.

Like QDiddy says and just loosen the plug slightly for less wear & tear on your roto start.
Pull starters at the track = Missing your heat. Been there done that.
IMO pull starters suck unless thats the only option for your motor/rc combo.
If you cant charge your battery or it dies while your trying to start, your probably out of tune anyhow.
Dead battery for electric start = Bad excuse.

I have used a 3000mah 7.2 v battery stick for 18 months in my rota start and i still have to yet blowa OWB as not managed to do it yet if the truck is struggling to turn over which you should know if it is then dont keep forcing to start if you know the truck well enough you should be able to tell whether it is turning over easy or struggling so i have had no problems with the using of the 3000mah battery stick

good point. I prefer the pullstart on the s-25. It has been a very reliable engine and my eng. starts with a couple pulls. oh yeah, and never had blisters from pull starting any engine.

I had a pullstart on my savage and it broke after a month. I bought the rotostart and it has been working for a long time without any problems, and the batteries last along time. I hate pull-starts and would highly recommend the rotostart.

Has anyone blown the bearings in their starter? My cousin managed to wear the bearings out a couple times on his and has the typical sticky button. He is going to get a new pull start but I am going to give him my new HB starter that I don't use and see if he manages to blow that too

No i have not come across that 1 yet the sticky switch i have thats why i ripped it out and replaced it with a heavy duty 30 amp 1 which i got from the car shop where i live and i have found this loads better and no problems at all

I would like to know if you can get the roto-start plate for the mach .15 like the one that comes with the xxxnt v.2
I would love that. I don't have my body cut for using the pullstart. I have to take it off.
thanks
