Or we could reply here on this nice forum.
Get a nice sport B3/T3/TC3 or xxx/xxxt; or rustler, or hpi sport 2 or something.
and a couple 1700/2000 mah ni-cd packs, a duratrax/novak/indi low end PEAK charger, a stock motor, a futaba/airtronics/JR wheel radio for like $115 or less; a sport speed control for $50-80 ; a rtr or package deal might be good if you want to hold down initial costs
There is so much more than this but without mor info....

I would personally recommend the T3 RTR and couple decent battery packs and "sport" peak charger. About $300.00.

first and foremost you should find a local track and make a visit when they are racing and also when people are practicing. ask around, most people will give you alot of information. Some people will even let you drive a few cars. From that and talking a hobby shop people, you should have enough information to make very informed decisions
good luck

This is where I would go. Lots of great advice has been posted here. First concern to think about is what you want to do. Do you eventually want to race??? Dirt, or Street??? How much money are you looking to invest??? Lots of money is not a requirement, as it has already been stated you can get a great car like the T3 truck ready to run for not a lot of bones. It will also be a very capable racer should you ever decide to do it. I would go pay a few visits to the local track around you. watch what they are running, and ask LOTS of questions. Then go pay respects to your local hobby shop and see what cars they carry parts for. The car won't be fun if you can't readily get parts for it. When its on the bench and you need a part its no fun to wait a week or two for the post man. If you are not mechanically inclined I would stick to electrics, and get yourself a decent charger, and some good packs. You don't have to go top of the line to get some great stuff. I thoroughly encourage you to pick the brains of anyone that will answer questions for you. the more knowledge you have, the more educated your decisions. If you want to know what I run, I have a Nitro Rustler to play with, and a Factory Team TC3 to race with. I run as cheap as a pirahna 1500 scx pack in it, and I run 2000's to run at the track. I don't have a peack detection charger, but have had great success in keeping my packs running well. I would highly recommend one though, and I'll be getting an intellipeak soon. I would answer the questions I asked at the beginning of this post and determine how involved you want to get, how much money you want to invest, and what your goals are. If you want any more guidance than this feel free to post after this, and you have tons of willing people to help you with your questions. If you want to know about R/C and want to be as educated as possible, you have come to the RIGHT place. Figure those things out, and post away my friend.
hope this helps, sorry so long

Read, read, read! Learn what you can about hte hobby, how expensive, what people in your area run, cost of maintainence...
It's no fun to have a 50mph Touring car if all the guys in your area run off-road trucks. When you find a vehicle you like, go online and ask specific questions about it..What problem areas it has...Are there any tips to get better performance for cheap...
When you start off, don't get too headstrong to start adding hop-ups to your vehicle. Get to know how it's going to behave and learn maintainence first, then as your skill gets better, look for the performance add-ons/upgrades.
