I will be attending my first race this Sunday at DC Ultra Trax! I've been waiting over a year to get out and do this. I hope it will be a lot of fun. I just hope I don't have any frequency conflicts (only got 1 crystal  ) and I hope my 2000s make it through the heats.

I have two 2000s and two 1500s and trying to figure out how to split them up. One 2000 for the Main and for practice in the morning. One 2000 for my last qualifier. The 1500s definitely won't last five minutes with my 15 turn, so I'll look like I newbie by dumping early (wait, I am a newbie :D ).

I can't wait and I can't sleep I am sooooo excited. Any words of advice or tips for a newbie's first race? Thanks...

Dan C

Don't worry too much about the crystals, I'm sure someone there will lend you a set if you need them. As for your batteries, if you have a good charger, you can probably get away with only using your 2000's for all your heats and just use your 1500's for practice. I was pretty scared my first race too...but it was fun fun fun! I didn't do too badly either(got 2nd in the B main :) ).

Make sure you're batteries get peaked, a timer charger won't do. Have someone top them off for ya if you need to.

You're taking a 15 turn? Generally, Novice classes are run with stock motors only. Using a Mod in Novice at my track will start a big controversy. You better find out...

BTW, what typr of racing?

I already have a peak charger (Piranha), so my packs will be at full capacity. As for using my 2000s for each race, I'll have to find out how much time I have (depends on how they run the classes). It sounds feasible, but I'll probably have to keep a charges 1500 ready just in case.

I'll be running 1/10 off-road (RC10B3 Team). I don't think the track has a novice class, only stock or modified, so I'll be running modified. Everyone else will probably have 10 or 11 turns, so I'll be at a disadvantage with my 15 turn. I guess it doesn't matter though, as long as I have fun!

Thanks,
Dan C :) :D :)

The fastest and hottest car out there doesn't necessarily win! We had a Traxxas Rustler beat out hopped up T3's and XXXT's in the B main a few times! It depends on the track set up. On our first race day, there were lots of guys with low turn motors. However, our track had lots of turns and only 1 straight away. Those guys kept hopping the track! Next week, they all came with slower motors. We have a guy that runs everything Ex Spec(1300 MAH batteries!!) and he's usually top 3 against guys with 3000Mah batteries and mod motors. His secret is good throttle control. Heh, sometimes I get throttle happy and dump my 2000's...but I'm trying to learn! Let us know how you did!

Things to take to the track are the most important things are:
Spare parts, any that you have, because anything and everything will happen at once you will find.
Make a checklist of everything you need, like charger, motor, batteries, radio, and other essential items, any tuning parts that you have are good also.(I once left my motor home, that was a crappy day, when my house is a half an hour away)
Let the other guys pass, i know that you do not want to do this, but especially the leaders, you absolutley must pull over, and let them pass, tell them that you are taking it wide, and let them slip by, hey, it slows you down, but it keeps an outbreak from occuring.
Practice! As much as you can
Take money, to pay for the race fee, and any parts that you may need to buy.
Watch the 'Fast Guys' and where they drive their cars, and which lines that they choose, and follow them.

Any more questions?
Good luck, and good racing!

Thanks for the responses, I'll keep the tips in mind on Sunday. I made the checklist earlier today and realized how much stuff I need to bring. I'll have to gather it all on Saturday night since practice starts at 9:30 AM on Sunday.

I've been reading about racing, but can someone explain to me how the frequency flag system works. Just want to make sure I understand everything before I get there.

I'll be sure to post Sunday night or Monday to let you all know how I did!

Wow! R/C car racing is awesome! I just got back a couple of hours ago and it was the most fun I ever had. Unfortunetly, I couldn't stay the entire time because my dad had to get back home. I ran through about five battery packs of practice and one qualifier (9 laps in 5:28.23, and average of 8.58 MPH).

I am definitely going to do this again, and I saw myself improving as the day progressed.

Thanks for your help,
Dan C

P.S. gotta bring sun tan lotion next time, my skin is burned

That's great! It was our last indoor racing day today and as luck would have it, I finally made the A main! Woohoo!! But my little B2 couldn't stand up against the trucks so I finished dead last :) But it was fun! Can't wait for outdoor to start...
