Very good question! It would be nice if there was a true(!) beginners class. Some clubs around the country run a villian class of electric boats, but most do not.

I'm not one of those people, I do both. If you're a racer, you have an idea of how your boat performs and how well you have set it up. I run with a lot of people who only play with their boats which is fine with me also. There is a money issue involved with racing. Some of us (like me) have to travel quite a distance to race so there is a lot of cost with gas, food and a motel if I go a day early.
Steve, if you've seen my posting in here, it is being worked on now by the IMPBA to get more clubs to have Novice classes and they are revising the ABS class that was never used. Just like the "A" class, the rules are there but no one has used them at a race. The Novice class has been used at the '03 Internats and some my my Districts races but you have to approach a host club to get the classes going. Find enough people that would show up to race the class and clubs might include it.

we've all dealt with "that guy" before. that's just the way it is. however, you'll find a lot of guys that are really helpful too. look right above my post here, ron is an experienced racer. he is one of the most helpful guys around. he's always willing to share his knowledge. are you into electric? call Climate Models and talk to peter. he's super helpful. or Fine Design, chris is always there to answer questions. each time i order parts from either place i get a little bit of "tech support" to help me out. or fuller's? ray is a great guy. or there is Jag's racing (the fastest boats in the world), they post on another site and they are really nice guys who answer a lot of questions. i've been into boats for going on 10 years and i consider myself a noob still. i look to those guys for advice on a daily basis and always get a solid answer. the bad apples, well there's always at least one. think of it like i do...he's compensating for something!!! :D then you can just chuckle and forget it. just remember, that anyone who visits this site is here to help. we're a community. we all have questions, and we all have answers. there are no %^&holes here...just opinions, and a few open minds. sorry about the long post, but after 10 years i'm so glad that i finally found a "support group" that i have to promote it.

The thing about the "better than you" racer is that they usually don't last too long in a club before they learn "it's not for them". Had one in my club that left the race site any time he wouldn't make it into a consolation or the final heat. Don't know what happened, but he stopped showing up at the races and lost his boat's registration. IMO, people like that have no business in a club where racing is only half the fun. The social aspects of club racing is as much fun for me as the actual racing. Most of what I've learned has been through the social part of race day, with the "Why did you do it that way?" or "How did you do that and get it to work?" type conversations. The "good" racers have no problem in discussing what they did, or how they did it. The "better than you" racer will snub you, or worse. We don't need that in our clubs and, fortunately, I haven't seen it on this forum. Hope it stays that way.

Steve, I don't know of too many up there. You can check the IMPBA and NAMBA sites. They do have the NAMBA Nat's coming up there this year that is sitting on the State line. I heard that if you go wide in turns 1, 2 and 3 that your boat can cross the State line!
