hehe im heading there with a few of my friends to take part in the Carshow that day. Though if my new Yokomo Drift Nissan Silvia S15 comes in early enough, and i get it up and running i might take it by the R/C race and bash around to break it in between races (if they let me) Might start a Drifting trend here in NC  May wind up spending more time at the R/C race than at the actual Car-show. Also have a HPI RS4 3-SS that i "dressed up" and am currious what people think about it
BTW Heyas Laso. Didnt know you kept in touch with people online. Guess i'll have to keep a eye on RC-Car Actions forums more often now.
P.S. If ya cant figure out who this is lemme know lol i'll stop by Laso raceway this friday and remind ya :D

Would we have to supply our own power? And I'm sure we'd have to bring our own pit tables, chairs, and shade correct?

I'll just call in sick. hehe.. ;) Tired of all this overtime working Saturdays... Anyways, I'll just bring out my own table and chair just in case. You never know how many will show up to race.

Here ya go:
Nik's Pizza & Restaurant
Highway 301 S, Kenly, NC
919-284-4255
If your on 95 heading North. once you Exit off 95 Take a right from the offramp. and i think Nik's is the first road on your right that you come to. If your exiting off 95 South, you need to turn Left off the off-ramp, go under the 95 overpass, then its the first road on the right.
I THINK thats the driveway that leads ya to Nicks. not sure though, havent been to kenly in a while. But im faily sure its right near the 95 overpass.
*edit*
here's a link to the Kenly area map. just zoom in to the second highest zoom and you'll get a good picture.

ok easy to get to at least. Not too far away, honestly as far away as the track over in Durham. I just wish it was a perminant track. Any idea how big it will be or the layout?

alright for you guys that are wondering about the track surface. it will definately be possible to race on this. there are a few bumps in certain spots but me and rodney suggested to the guys at niks last night to just make a turn around them. there is one dip on one end of the parking lot but i think we resolved that by just moving the track over 10 feet and missing the whole thing. it is also possible that they could get the whole parking lot resurfaced before the race. they are getting quotes on it right now to see what they can do. but i ran the pro 4 around out there i raised it up about 2 rounds on all 4 shocks and did not bottom out. i also made suggestions to them that i have heard most of you guys say before, as in putting a straight on the back, and leaving about 2 foot between stand and track, for those occasional radio leaners. from what we measured out last night i think i talked them into making the track a little larger. i think its going to be around 35or38' x around 65' long. but anyways for you guys that were wondering the surface is ok i would not of put my car down on it if it wasnt.

Tell the guys to call Rob Micheals or Jeff Brown at Superior Hobbies about how to put down VHT and how they mix it. We raced at thier track in Dec. and the traction was AWESOME. Thier track is in the parking lot of a shopping center that is only used on Sat. for races. Call them at 407-834-9299 They will help you alot on this.
Please be patient we will answer all questions ASAP. between running 2 business one of which is our carpet track and hobby shop that is opened 5 days a week and racing twice a week, and the other our candle business which making candles is very time consuming. and working out all the details for this event we are going 24/7. to answer what questions I can for now here goes; Yes we will have trophies for open mod. The drivers stand has been built. Electricity will be supplied along with some pit tables. Feel free to bring your own if you want to. Bring your own chair/stool.The tracks outer walls will be 12-16 inches high the inner walls will be double stacked 2x4s. The travel lanes will be 8-10 feet wide. It will have a long front straightaway with approx. 7 turns on the back straightaway. Will try to post a layout soon. The surface can be run on the way it is now but we are going to try to make it smoother. We will have track transponders or use your personal. We will have parts for Mini-t, we do not have parts for touring cars but am trying to get someone to bring some to sell. So for now plan on bringing all your parts. Will let you know if we do get someone to bring some.As for Nitro the sponsor did not want them because of the speed and safety of Drivers and Spectators. At this time; this event is the biggest thing of the day so expect ALOT of spectators all day; but I will ask about Nitro and let you know for sure. Don- will let you Know soon about batteries for Spec class. Directions are as posted above in another post the exit # is 107. If I have missed anybodies Questions I will try to answer them soon. There are lots and lots and lots of details but everything seems to be going good. Will keep you posted.

What tires do you all recommend? I have only raced indoors. Take Off CS-27s? 32s? Just need to pick up ONE set, I have a limited budget (read: I am NOT planning on winning any class by any means but I won't be in the "way")

Tim - I have some 27's you can borrow if you don't want to buy some right now. I probably have some I can give you, I just need to check my supply.
Billy
This is a lay out of the track we are going with at this time. It is subject to have some changes if needed to compensate for any "flaws" etc. in the track surface.
27s should be good.....doesn't look like it will be too warm by then.
Sorry Nextolast and trm......looks like nitro is out.

i cant see where nitro would be any different than say 19 turn electric on a track this size. i bet the lap times would be close to the same. plus those people at the car show would probably love to hear some horsepower and smell some nitro.
Don't count Nitro out just yet. We have sent him a e-mail asking and waiting for a reply. We agree Nitro would definately be a crowd pleaser. but the final decision is his. We will let you all know when we do.

Showing a variety of vehicles will get interest.

03-15-2005, 08:48 PM
I'm betting 19t would be faster than Nitro if the track size is as Brian quoted. Open Mod will be faster for sure if anyone races that. But being a car show there and all... the Nitro's would be a nice Crowd Pleazer.. hehe..
How many qualifiers will there be? Now I just have to decide on what class to run????
Cheerwhiner, as for tires, foam tires will be faster than rubber tires. It is my understanding that foams will more than likely be legal for all classes. Although I would prefer rubber tires... ya gotta go with what's faster. If not, then go for Takeoff CS22's. If you can't find them, then CS27's will do just fine. Bring some motor spray to clean the dirt/dust off the rubbers tires after every run.

Smitty---thank you. the layout looks to be simple and could make for some close racing to keep the crowd entertained. will be looking to hear about the batteryfor spec class.
jtn---bring on the nitro. everytime i smell that exhaust, i start remembering what it was like running motocross. :D
here is some food for thought. with what little time the racers have to practice and get a setup going, i think the drifters and monster trucks need to wait until after the mains are finished to show off for the crowd. even in between qualifying rounds, drivers will need to make adjustments and sort out other technical difficulties that might transpire. i have no problem with either one of those groups being there, but like it was mentioned before, there is a place and a time for doing such things.

hehe guess im the "drifter" ya were talking about. But as for waiting till everythings done, im all for that. Not even sure if my car will be up-n-running by then. Im mainly going to be there just to watch/turn-marshal and to have fun. And from the way the pictures of this Kit im getting looks. it'll draw a few eyes just by the way it looks. Dun realy care if i never take my little drifter out of the box or not. Just figured i'd try to add some eye-candy to the events.
Here's a though though. If anyone brings in a "concourse" type entry car to the race. we could have our own little "pace car" =D
As for The Nitro being "unsafe" i cant realy see that as being a valid reason not to have them allowed their own class to race. Escpecialy as the only area on that track they'd even get close to top-speed is the last 1/4 of the frunt stretch, and you can simply rope that area off durring the event if they are concerned about people being hurt. Ive seen the Mod-TC's running just as fast as the Nitro TC's over at the Wood. The sound of the little engions, and the simple "awe" of that class would realy help to draw a crowd in.

Yup I agree totally, even though I don't have one, it is what attracts people.
JimmyMac
03-16-2005, 08:16 PM
I agree once again, Nitro's will attract people. Just the sound of it would. And top speed won't be too much of an issue if the straight is only 60-70foot. Durham's old track was 200+ feet. And Rosewood outdoors is approx 145ish. Even Rosewoods indoor track will be bigger than this parking lot track. So I don't think this will be much of a problem. VA Beach's Hobbytown USA parking lot tracks were about the same size. They ran Nitro with no issues. Don't let the sound scare you... :D

03-16-2005, 09:18 PM
Sup Jimmy, fancy meeting you here :p I'm with ya on the nitro issue. The speed will not be a problem at all. I admit it would make the "show" spectacular from a spectators standpoint but so would a field of open mods. In my opinion there's nothing like the sound of a group of open mods spooling up together down the straight. I think there will be a pretty decent field of mod touring. You game Jimmy? Later! Brad

No problem Pete might not be the best driver but I do love a small track that you have to drive.
OK guys; YES YOU CAN RUN NITRO if you can get 6 drivers. This is to help cover the cost of trophies. The trophies have been ordered for 6 classes. They are SPEC, STOCK, 19-TURN, OPEN MODIFIED, NITRO, AND MINI-T. That will be it for trophy classes. Spec class can run batteries up to 3300, spec motor only. There will be NO TIRE Restrictions for any class. Registration is $30.00 for all casses; except Mini-T which is $25.00. Now Guys lets fill up all these classes and have some FUUUN!
I dunno if we will have 6 drivers, but I also I don't think any of us Nitro guys cared about the trophies anyway. Oh well, I will bring mine and just run some practice. No way will I try and run 2 classes. ;)
ShadowWolf81

if you need a 6th persone to "fill-in" i'll see if i can dismantle my Nitro and get it back into Raceing condition (its dresed up at the moment with light kits and neons  ).. I'll just have to buy some tires and get someoen to help me tweek my engion out. Dont think its set up right
hehe if anyones gonna be at the Wood on the 19th (today) i'll drop by to see if anyones out there. If someones willing to tinker with my engion and get it running good i'll have mine ready to be the 6th. if no ones at the Wood this weekend i'll stop by the next. :D
Dont realy care about winning/loseing, i just wanna get the sport a bit more popular. And the Nitro's will turn a few heads =D

Roar Rules? That's a joke. Foam on asphalt and Roar Rules.. hehe... Well, I'd like to know which rules will be followed so I can comply. Weight Rule? Body type rule? Body height rule? Wing height/width rule? Car width rule? Motor rules? For foam can I run under 55mm? etc, etc..... And who's qualified to check all this??
Or are ya running loose rules? 2-4 door sedan type bodies. Foam or Rubber tires. Roar Stock approved motors for Stock Class. Roar approved Mod motors for Mod Class (new roar rules start there is no limit for number of turns). (There are NO 19t motors that are approved by Roar. This is because none have been submitted for approval.) So what about 19t? Only Spec type locked 24 degree 19t machine wound motors? No pan cars in Touring class.
Just wondering. I know alot of us aren't truely Roar legal at this time. Just curious if it was loose rules like the Snowbirds....
You talkin about me? How about a detuned old school cvr?
lol....No of course not......besides, I know you turned it back into a regular TR....I don't think it would matter if someone did anyway since the layout is gonna be smaller than what we are used to. :)

Jimmy Mac, look's like Joseph and I will probably make it on the 9th! I'll break down and run mod with you and whoever to help fill the class. I'll run my 19 t motor though, I'll prob. do better with it anyhow.
Any answer's yet on what body, motor, chassis height rule's will be enforced. Are 3300's still the batt. in spec, and here goes another can of worm's, what spring's and brushes are allowed in spec; box stock only?
Thank's and I'll see ya'll on the 9th.
Yeah Mojo, I'll get the hexes back to you next time I see you. I'll get some stuff ordered soon so I can repay the part's debt I have. I got a few thing's to return when we go to Md. I gotta get a new F-1 chassis and top plate: it got so hot the top plate melted where the rear shock mount screw's in! I got those parts too Hank. Got new ones just in case the mods I did to the chassis last year were not legal. I put some cooling holes in it and they said all was well, so I have a top plate and a chassis. You may want to look at mine to see how I have it. At least last year it was ok, don't know about this year. It's still in the rules, but you know how one judge will do things different than another.
By the way, If you got third with a car you said you weren't all that comfortable with, how woulda I done up there? I wanted to go,, I thought it was next weekend though. You guys shoulda told me more better.

Hanks F201 already has the vent holes in it. He checked out the Hickmans F201 cars. Then did it himself. I'll have my F201 ready for Maryland to take on the Hickmans. I think their East Coast domination of the class should come to an end.. :D
Anyways, unsure if I'll race this race now. We'll see when I put in for Vacation at work. But I may just end up racing Mod or Stock. I doubt enough Mod will show up. Dee if you decide to run spec and need some 3300's its looking like i might not be able to go that weekend. Its christys 21st bday and all her family are coming in. If you want to run though i could send some of my 6 cell packs up there by someone and you could run them. Just let me know.

Is the F201 cars you guys are talking about the 4-wheel trive one that Tymia? came out with? If so ive got one i need to get rid of =D just not sure what'd be a decent asking price for it.
Dee, Mini-T class will be any Mini-T TRUCK Body. You can use foams or rubber. Cheerwhiner, no you do not have to run your body that is entered in the best painted body contest; and we would be glad for you to post a flyer any where you can. Spec class will be a spec motor with any brushes or springs and battery up to 3300. As far as ROAR Rules ; we are using them loosley as a guideline; since this is NOT a Roar event; as most tracks do. minimum weight will be 52oz. with foam or rubber tires. Wing cannot extend above roof line. Minimum height 115mm; maximum height 175mm for car. We Will have complete rules posted. As far as who is qualified; we will have a tech person; but all final decisions are the Race Directors[Smitty]Who has been a long time member of ROAR, ARCOR, and NORRCA, and has raced in state, regional, and national events. You must have rules to make things fair; but we do not want to get so bogged down in every technical ROAR rule that it is not fun. Anyone that has raced at a track that techs should not have much problem passing inspection. Just keep it Fair and FUN!

Laso---Send me one of those flying thingies, and I will post them at a couple of hobby shops here in New Bern and Havelock. There are some folks here in New Bern that run the parking lot at the local community college some weekends, and I am sure they would consider going. From what I understand there are quite a few that run nitro, so that would give the gas guys some more competition. Look forward to shaking off the dust and getting some track time. Take care and God bless. :)
btw, will whomever is selling parts have a good stock of tc3 stuff? would like to know as soon as i can so i will know what i have to get ahead of time if need be.

Hmmm,, a mention. Something stirs,,,
Hi everyone; sorry we hadn't posted much this week. We have been very busy with final details for this race.We are suppose to be having some more racers coming from sandhills track too. We should have a good turnout if everyone comes that says they are. We have tried to answer everyones questions; if we have missed any we apoligize. It is getting hectic! Thanks in advance to Don Hill and Brad of Durham for sending the parts and support. Don't know if we will have time to post anymore before the race;will try. If not we hope to see everyone there. The TROPHIES are in ; they are HUGE! 6ft.;5 1/2 ft; and 5 ft. This is a picture of one of the sets.
Sounds like we should have racers from most all tracks in the area except maybe one. All tracks that have racers there will be mentioned in the newspaper write ups as good places to race those that don't will not be mentioned. We Support those that support us. There has been a couple other tracks already mentioned in the 2 page story written up in 3 local newspapers. There will be another write up that day in several newspapers. Thanks to all the racers from other tracks that will be there. Should be alot of Fun. Have added 2 more trophy girls. should be 4 now all together. Also have some good prizes for the raffles. The gas 1/4 scale will be there to take a lap or 2 for fun. Also the full size late model car will be there; and maybe a few more suprises. Will have to come and see! TAKE CARE; GOOD LUCK: and lets go have some FUN!!!!!!!

hi laso. hope i haven't run this question in the ground.:D. how will the lay-out and track conditions be for the 9th. and will you apply any type of traction additive? my plan is to go with (unfamiliar.LOL) rubber tires and i just needed a small "heads-up" on the track. thanx in advance.

Hi nomac, the track layout will be much like the pictire in a previous post; with 9ft. travel lanes. The guy that is suppose to "smooth" it out some ; still plans on doing it this week. He wanted to wait until a a few days before so no one will park on it. depends on how "cured" out it is, if traction additive is needed. If he dosn't get it done; we might have to use some.It can be raced on as it is; has small rocks in the asphalt; but has been tested. Thanks for the support!

We take cash;check or credit/debit card at our store/track.; but that day anything you need from us we can take cash or check; no credit cards because we wont have a land phone line. As far as registration we will be taking it for mini-t but Niks Pizza will be taking it for all other classes. They probably have a Credit card machine in the resturant.

maybe some 12th scale action every few friday nights what ya think mark, john. or maybe we out to just go out there and run the little cars, mini-t,18t
Thanks Smitty. It is stock the way it comes out of the box except for servo and maybe springs.
Brian my 1/12th is all tore up from up at Debbies. I plan on just buying the Hara conversion for it this fall, but right now I want to focus on my outdoor cars.
Running the 18t may happen though.

we have 3 classes for the mini-t with the late model bodies. Stock; modified; and open mod. Open mod can run the 18ts or mini-t. They run every Thursday night and on Sundays. Usually have a good turnout for them. Also they are starting a class of 1/12 scale; have 3 already.
I may come run some smitty. I am just not as interested in the roundy round as much as on-road.

John you lucky dog. I wish I was going to Martinsville with you. The last time I was there was when Mark Martin won the race. I had Pit passes for the race and we had a blast. Got to meet Little E. Have a picture of the two of us sitting on pit wall before the race. I almost got run over by Big E. after the race. He was pissed and flying through the garage area. Lots of fun to be had. Just pick your parking spot wisely so you can get out after the race.

The layout should be much like pictured in earlier post; it will be counter clockwise; not for sure if front or rear straight away, but the start/finish line will be on the straight away; will have some power; pit outside; and we will have track transponders avaliable if needed. The track is being put down Friday, all the wood is cut, just needs putting together.
I'll keep my fingers crossed on the weather situation. I for one can't wait to get outside and run. I've got the shocks off my car. Just can't decide whether to set them up for outside or leave them alone. Oh well, guess I'll wait till Fri. night to make a call.
Smitty - what's the plan if it's raining?
We will have a rain date. Hopefully Sat. April 23 so as not to interfer with Durham, but will have to confirm that with Niks Pizza. We will not run on Sunday; that is the day we run our indoor carpet at our Track/Hobbyshop. But hopefully the rain will be out of here by Saturday. It is sounding better about the weather for Sat. Keep your fingers crossed!!!!
This might be our last post before Saturday. It is 2:00 am Thursday night/Friday morning; and am tired. We will have a busy day tomorrow. I will try to check back Friday night. but if not; I hope we have answered everyones questions and hope to see everyone bright and early Sat. We appreciate everyones support. Thanks Smitty & Lisa

mark p.---good run saturday. i left without saying many thanks for the advice and use of your air blower. :) every time i see your trailer makes me want to go get one, only just a bit smaller. the dog we have is a Bichon Frise. they do not get much over 20 pounds, if that big, when they are full grown. that particular breed is great with people that have allergies, and they do not shed. they are what most would call hypo-allergenic. as you probably noticed, they are a very smart breed. the wife's sister has one, and it learned to ring a bell when it has to go outside to potty. there are a couple of local breeders not too far from the Kenly area that specialize in small dogs. as a matter of fact, Rodney P. and his girlfriend got there dog from a breeder that specializes in small dogs, located between Pine Level and Selma. the name of the breeder where they got their's is called Puppy Paradise. i will get the name and phone number of the breeder where we got ours and send it to you. again, 'preciate the assistance at the race, and glad everyone had a good time.
nomac(team YO-MAMA)---pete, glad i could help. :) i originally had 64 pitch in my car, but was gonna give it up and sell everything to pursue other interests. i guess racing saturday kinda changed my mind on that. ;)

Hey Cheer......can you post it somewhere so I can download it?
dude its a 120 megabyte file.......... !!! I have my laptop with me at all races, even though i didn't pull it out at Kenly. So bring a blank CD or something to Durham on Saturday if you are coming, or whatever.
I realized that in the main of electirc, I didn't have one of my droop screws in my car. Thus I believe that the arm was sitting so low that the CVD slipped out for that reason. Darn it! Well I learned the hard way I guess!
also the esc overheating thing: took the motor apart. I didn't have the teflon shim thingy above the commutator on the armature. Plus the bearing on top of the motor (in the endbell) was reversed. So there was a bunch of friction.
i guess being hurried in a unfamiliar environment (and still being farily new to racing) I had to learn the hard way.
well that stuff won't happen again. you all take care, i'll see most of you around still.

Do you guys plan on racing in Kenly next spring?
Probably not. The hobby shop that put this race on last year went out of business. If your looking for on-road racing try Rosewood and TRRAC@The RC Speedway(In Durham)
