For bashing and some friendly racing, running on 7-cells..what would you off-road guys pick as your favorite controller and motor.

I am thinking that the C40 might be my best choice for motor, but for the controller I am slightly unsure. I will likely never use more than 8 cells with it, so I have no clue what to look into.

What truck? If it is a stadium truck, then you may want to take a look at the Feigao motors. These motors are less than half the price of the C40's, but don't have the fancy cooling fins. The Feigao 540 7s might be a fast motor for you to use on no more than 8 cells:

For controller, you might be able to get away with the MGM 80amp, or maybe you would have to go with the 120 amp version, but in either case, you would have a pretty inexpensive system.

If you want to do racing I would have to recommend the Schulze U-Force 75. The MGM's have a nice price tag, but mine atleast doesn't work very good. If you want reliability and good customer service go with a novak. If you want more than they offer and you aren't afraid to try things, the U-force with a lehner basic 4200 or Feigao motor would work well. If you do get an MGM and don't like it, just realize that it doesn't represent the performance of other sensorless controllers.

I use a feigao 8s and uforce 75 and I like it. Also, the Lehner 4200 is a good choice. Its more expensive, but its also lighter wieght. The lehner is slightly less powerful, a great little motor though.

If you want some good speed and are only going to run 6 or 7 cells I'd say a feigao 7s would be perfect or even a 6s for some more insane speeds. But you'll need an ESC that can handle a good 100+ amps due to current spikes, etc.:)

Very true, I run a feigao 7s on my u-force 75 and it will get quite hot if I dont run a fan on it. This is in a stadium truck with 20/86 gearing. I recently bought an 8s but have not been able to try it out yet. Should be a good motor for my application. Also I just got my lipo batts from optima (one 3s2p 6200 and one 2s2p 4000)...Im all giddy with anticipation.
