View Full Version : Brushless RC10T4?

Does anyone know of a direct replacement BL/ESC combo for the RC10T4. I'd like something smooth (like sensored BL) and a little faster than the stock brushed motor.
Mine is getting a lot of wear, and the AI-ESC is kind of.... Well... Funkey/Glitchy...
I always have to turn it on/off a few times before it knows the difference between forward/reverse.
I'd like something a little faster but not so much as to require other massive upgrades...
Suggestions?

Im getting some mixed signals from your question. You want to get an esc that runs brushless as well as brushed? If so then you are stuck with the Schulze U-Force or the new LRP Sphere controller.
If you are talking a whole BL system then mabey you can wait around till late may early june for the new MGM Compro expert car controller. It doesn't run brushed motors but will be very reasonably priced (around $165 mabey more for the 120amp version), pair that with a feigao 8S motor ($70)and you have one heck of a deal with plenty of power.
Im not sure about upgrades but the only thing you would have to upgrade might be the tranny. Ive heard that associated and Losi dont have such issues with transmissions wearing/breaking. I personally have had no problems from my losi xxx-t's tranny with a u-force/feigao 7s setup. I usually run 8 cells, and have pushed it to 12 for a few runs before.

I race in our Pro Truck Class that has 20 minute "A" mains all the time with my T-4 along with around 10 other racers with Losi XXX-Ts and T-4s. I highly recommend the best ESC and motor that money can buy, the Schulze U-Force 75 ESC and the Plettenberg Extreme motor. Jamie with www.starluckrc.com has the combo deal for both for $450 and it is the smoothest throttle of any BL system I have driven along with top end to push most gas trucks down the long straight a ways.
With long run times comes more maintence issues with the diff and the shocks on the T-4. To insure peak performance, I freshen up my diff and shocks every weekend of racing. You don't have to do this.

$$$$$$$$$$$ and more money!!!! But I totally agree with yo craps! I almost bought a Pletty from jamie last week but then had some trouble with my U-Force 75 so I just stuck with an 8s feigao. I sold a laptop to get the money for my U-force/feigao setup a while back and a few other things. I just bash my truck and tend to rebuild my diff after every 5 hours of racing, but I am very fast at it now.

I agree, the U-force is the best controller I have ever owned. It combined with the basic series, the shadow or extreme, or a hacker just seems to be the best performance available. If you want something lower impact on the car, the novaks are the way to go. Great customer service and pretty much the cheapest thing around.

Let me try again. I'm looking for a brushless system that would be a drop-in replacement more or less. I'm looking for smoothness and simplicity (smooth like a brushed motor - i.e. sensored).
I was wondering of MAMBA or someone else had a motor/esc combo that would be a direct drop-in, and offer very smooth operation. I'm not racing. I would like a little performance boost but not one that requires upgrades to the T4. I know NOVAK sells other sensored systems besides the HV, but I don't know if any of them would be a direct fit as far as the motor is concerned.

Simple drop in system is what we gave you!
The Schulze U-Force 75 ESC and the Plettenberg Extreme motor are the best system for the T-4 money can buy. Trust me on this one, it has alot more torque and top end than the Novak 5800SS that I race against everyweek. My throttle is smoother than any brushed or sensored brushless system. You do not have to modify anything on the T-4 to install and race this system.
Good Luck!

What track exactly? I'm new around here and new to RC. I might just do that if I can get away from the office.

I have the Novak Brushless SS5800 in my RC10T4. No issues for me at all. Has enough power to pull a few gas trucks down straights. Its actually too much for me with my non driving skills...LOL.
Runs smooths no glitches no issues at all. They have pretty good customer service access also from what I have read.
The truck is for sale also:

Craps, how many cells are you running when it is beating the Novaks?

The same as the Novak racer has, 2 8000+ mah 3.7 volt Li-po cells! Remember we race for 20 minutes in our mains and this electric race is not for girls or small children.

You act suprised, or skeptical to hear this.
@craps...the novak can run lipos? It doesn't mention this on their website. Does it just not matter because he never runs the battery all the way out to a dangerously low voltage.

The li-po is no different when it comes to voltage, but it does have a bigger storage capacity. The 2 3.7volt cells that is 7.4 volts is no different than a 6 1.2 volt cell Ni-mh pack that is 7.2 volts. The ESC does not know what kind of battery it is hooked to unless it is more or less voltage than it is designed to operate with.

Yeah, what I meant was that the cutoff voltage would be to low for Lipo but, I guess he doesn't run that battery low enough during a 20 minute main to drain the batt to a dangerous level.

No when we can get around 30 minutes of run time before the Schulze ESC low voltage cut out comes in around 6.5 volts.

I run a novak 5800 in my T4. It has great torque and smooth throttle response but it does lack a bit up top.
It will wheel stand all day long so i'm happy =)

the novak ss-5800 is a great combo for the t4 i used it in my t4 but now im selling it check it out in the for sale forums of email me chrisatmaxx@hotmail.com
What pinion are you using on your t4? I ordered the t4 with the novak ss5800 with 19t and 20t pinions without knowing which pinion to use.
Will appreciate your reply. Thanks

What are your guys thoughts on a U-Force 75, Plettenberg Extreme motor and a 6 cell 3300 in a B4 and/or a XXX4 for racing? Would this be to much motor the B4? If it is to much motor would turning down the throttle exp have any negative affects, cogging? I also was reading that people were having a problem getting the proper gear ratio in their T4 do to the DIA of the motor can hitting the gear box. I am also concerned about customer support. How many of you had to send in the ESC for service and what was the turnaround? I'm also considering the LRP Sphere,if it ever comes out, ha. Has anyone seen this run at Nationals?? Sorry for so many questions I just don't want to be disappoint like I was with the Novak SS (SLOW).

No cogging and the gearing is due to racing 20+ minutes to cool the motor off that I have ran up to 20 tooth pinion on my T-4 with no problems. I like the performance with a 16 tooth pinion and an 84 tooth spur gear.
I hooked my ESC to an 11.1 volt li-po pack and thermalled racing it with the wrong gearing. I kept pulling the trigger while thermalling and shorted it out (my mistake). Sent it back to Schulze with a 2 week turn around that is about the same customer service time you would get out of Novak.
As far as nickel batteries go, I have not owned them in over a year and perfer the 30 minute run time my li-pos give me!
