Hi all, I keep hearing everyone going for the 8000kv Mamba setup. Which is all good, but I don't think I need that kind of speed. I would like super long run time and good torque for screwing around offroad at medium speed.

What I'm thinkin is PolyQuest 1800 3s battery, and the Mamba 5400kv system. According to TheSteve he radar'd his 6800 on a 2s at 54kpm, or 34 mph. 3s and 5400 assuming all other things are equal should yield 40mph, which is probably a lil fast for me, but better faster than I need than slower.

Also the 5400 mamba doesn't seem that popular so I'm hoping to find a deal on Ebay.

Anyone have experience with 3s and low Kv's on the Mamba?

I've been running the 5400kV with 1500mah 3s lipo in my 18t for about a month. Love it. Didnt get to gps it, but it easily outruns any Nirto MT I've raced. Its way to fast for its own good. I cant imagine what the faster motors are like.

You guys are on the right track using the lower kv Mamba system w/ higher votage, I'm sure as poconoblmax has confirmed, you won't be disappointed with this set-up. And as you have said, you will enjoy longer run times. I personnally like onroad and run my Xray M18 on 8 cells using a Razor microcar motor(5850Kv) and am amazed at the run time. It's only the second run on the Batts so they are still in cycling (2/3a cells GP1100's) and only charged at 1.5 amps this time around, which I'll do a couple more times before I get it up to charging at 2.0 amps (max I charge these batts at) and already I can't punch the throttle unless I want to strip all the gears. The car right not is pretty fast, I can't say it's record breaking but for my purpose (around 30-40 range), it will get me around the track (1/10th scale track) at speeds I can enjoy. i have it very modified to handle the speeds in the corners and seems to have promis. I used to run it on 6 cells, but am looking forward to the 8 cell set-up on the track.

Back to the point, 5400Kv on a 3s lipo set-up should be an excellent compromise between torque and highend speed.

Good luck, enjoy

3S 1800ma with a 5400 will work great! I use 2S with an 8000 to keep my truck as light as possible...

Well I jumped on ebay looking for a deal, we'll see if I win it. Next up is sourcing batteries.

Thanks for the input all. I figured the 5400 3s would be a good combo, but its nice to hear it from people who have actually run it.

Hey Poconoblmaxx, can you give an estimate on run time? Does the motor or controller get hot?

As for run time. I've never drained the pack to the point where the voltage cutoff comes on. I would say 15 to 20 min at least. The controller gets warm and the motor gets fairly hot. I think the motor was around 150f when i checked it.

I have one with only a couple of packs through it and stock the PQ1800 packs.

I run a BL setup (Hacker Master Car Sport w. GM 6T 6000Kv motor) in my original RC10T, and would rather have a 4000 - 5000 Kv motor in there. Now, I am thinking on going BL in my Itsy Bitsy Spyder wich I currently rum with a speed 300 motor. I'd like to stay 2s lipo, or 6-7 cell NiMH. I don't need INSANE speeds, but a good speed is desired. Is the 5400 mamba too slow? I guess the 6800 would be the right choice, huh?

Thanx for any help. Chewie.

Go with the 5400.

Looks like I get to join the BL crowd. I'm pretty excited. I just ordered up a polyquest 1800mah 3s pack, and a mamba 5400.

11.4 volts will be by far the highest voltage I've tried in an RC. And the brushless is new for me too... can't wait....

It will be plain nuts to drive, quite a blast. let us know what ya think once you squeeze the trigger.

I've been running the Mamba 5400 in an IBS. I've been club racing it since they first we released. I've been running it with Thunder Power 850mAh LiPoly cells. Not postitive what "2s" means but I assume you mean 2 cells/ 2c? To get the best performance from the 5400 you really need to run it on 3c and run the smallest Trinity pinion. The only real problems you will have are with the diffs with this setup. You need to shim the drive gears as far into the gearbox's as you can without binding up the crown gear. I left the E-clips off off and shimmed the input shaft in. Also there are only 2 bearings in the diff housing for the rear input shaft but there are 3 recesses in the gearbox that allow use of 3 bearings. Put the extra bearing in there, trust me. The 5400 on 3c geared around 12t will be plently fast enough and with good traction you will be able to wheelie the truck with a quick stab of throttle. I wouldn't do that though. I've lunched 4 sets of rear diff gears doing that.

The only drawback I've found with the Mamba is there's some sort of bug with the firmware. Occassionally the motor will make a grinding sound like a stripped spur gear and the truck will barely move for a couple seconds. It's not a gear thing, it does it occassionally even with the motor out of the truck. It's a controller thing and if the pump the throttle quickly a couple times it runs normally again. This setup doesn't like quick stabs of throttle, rather it prefers smooth throttle input. Otherwise it's excellent in the IBS.

You mean 3s not 3c. You are probably running over 10c cells.

Heheh yea I'm running a 3s1p 10C+ 1800 Lipo battery.... man thats a mouthful. Well it hasn't arrived yet, so currently I'm not running anything... sheesh.

@pinky, thanks for the info! I'm definately going to run 3 cells, mostly because I can. Also I thought the 3s 1800 would fit better than say a 2s 2100 mah pack running a higher kv motor. I figure 3*1800=5400 and 2*2200 =4400 so all in all the 3s ought to be capable of doing more work which hopefully means more run time.

I've really got to shim the diffs, fit the outdrives, and all the other setup stuff. I'm sure when the mamba shows up I'll get motivated.

I ran that exact same set up, you will have more power and runtime than you know what to do with. I would run the same batt without charge several weekends in a row........never once ran it down on one run. Awesome set up.
