Hey Everyone, I know these posts get annoying, but which truck should I get:
an MGT with
a new FR.27 or SH.28
a receiver pack
and zombies or big joes
or an LST
with a MX-3 radio (to save money)
aluminum a-arms
alum. diff covers
and a receiver pack
they both are less than $620 with everything new, or off ebay
thanks for the help, and sorry :(

The Fantom .27 is proving to be a very short-lived engine, I'd strongly recommend the SH28 over the Fantom.
That said, they both sound like a ton of fun! I've got an LST and it's great, but I've never driven an MGT, must less a hopped-up one, so I can't say how it'd compare. From what I've seen the MGT might be a little more durable, although with the added power and speed of the SH28 you might break more stuff than you would with the stock .21! :)

I've been reading a number of accounts lately about problems with the SH28, most to do with broken cranks. There is, however, a STS .28 out that so far seems all but indesctructible. It's only a 3-port but the ports are huge and word has it that it screams like a banshee. It's not very easy to find, though, so that's the only bummer.

From what I've seen, the price on that STS is pretty good, too!

what about the wasp .28, I thought I heard it didn'd hold a tune, and is very problematic

Yep, the Wasp .26 is made by Picco (good), but the Wasp 28 is made by, I think, Team Infinity (not so good).

I have a new LST (a week old) and my best friend has a MGT. Here is my take on it.
The LST is a better designed truck. You can tell that Losi spent more time on the drawing board (or computer screen) on this truck than about anything else out there. However, I am beginning to see that the MGT may be a better made truck. These things have very high quality parts and are very hard to break if you have any common sense.
I have had a number of bugs to work out on my LST (2 speed reluctant to shift, stripped allen bolts, horrible placement of receiver packs) and a few that I fear will come soon (boken a-arms, lost CV pins, the evil washer). The MGT's pnly problem so far has been the loose nut behind the wheel ;)
The LST may be faster and have more bells and whistles, but the MGT does what it is supposed to do, all day, with no moaning or groaning.
