I have a B4 and a soon-to-be BJ4, and I have a Novak SS5800. I'm unhappy with the footprint (mainly the vertical footprint) of the ESC, so I wanted to look at some alternatives for my buggies. I really don't care if the ESC is sensor based, since the general consensus around here seems to be that sensorless tech has improved so much that it really doesn't matter.

The Sphere looks promising, but who knows when it will actually be released.

I want to race my buggies, so the system needs to be ROAR legal.

Thoughts?

Right now, the only legal motors are the Neo and SS5800. I don't quite remember the limits for the controller, but the Novak controller is pretty much the smallest you can get. The only other small controllers I know of are the MGM 60/80/120amps. With the Novak motor, you could probably get away with the 60amp version, but it would be best to be safe with the 80amp. The size for these controllers is 67x30x12mm, which goes to 2.64" long x 1.18" wide x .47" thick. These measurements only include what is in the shrink wrap, not the wires.

Hmm... I didn't realize that the Novak was comparatively small.

I'm pretty pumped about the Neo/Sphere system... I wish they'd release it already. When it's released, I'll probably throw it into my BJ4 (assuming I can get my hands on a BJ4, too :( ).

Yes, the Sphere/Neo should be a pretty good system. I believe that the Sphere will be a pretty small speed control to, so that should work for you.

Heres one someone was talking about. I dont know anyting about the company though. The controllers do look small and the motor has the neo look.

Looks similar to a sphere. Nosram makes ESCs for RTR vehicles I think. And they also have a separate line of ESCs for lower turn motors and what not. That looks interesting though. Brushed motor limit over 7 turns and brushless over 5.5. Very interesting.

I wonder if Nosram is the European version of LRP? The case looks so similar, it must be the same!

I'd say there was a pretty good chance the equipment is the same. This is from the Nosram website:

"In early 2000, NOSRAM was taken over by LRP electronic, the world-wide leader in digital electronic speed controls. NOSRAM will now relaunch a complete line of R/C products, shortly starting with speed controls and more to follow soon."

lol LRP is german ie european. nosram used to make escs but now seem jsut a rebranding name for some of lrps product probably trying to hook some old Nosram faithfulls.

The way i see it is team associated distribute lrp products in the us thus they will sell the LRP spere and there new motor the neo.
The Nosram and LRP ready products look identicle apart from a different colour scheme.

Either LRP make the motor and the controller and TA rebadges the motor or TA does make the motor but for distribution rights reasons in europe they have to be sold under a different brand so that they can be bought as a combo.

I have just won an auction on ebay for the new mtroniks sensorless car speedo £45 (not bad heh!) will test it with my C40 8s on friday maybe even record a video of it.

Did anyone notice that they have waterproof what seem to be "AI" series ESCs? Or something similar? Nosram looks kinda interesting. Maybe tower will pick em up since it's the same thing as LRP.

Man all of Nosram's stuff looks like LRP products with a bad suntan.

I wonder if their ESC (http://www.nosram.com/products.asp?id=26) and motor (http://www.nosram.com/products.asp?id=30) are available now.

If the LRP/Reedy offerings don't make it out by the end of April, I'm definitely going to look for other options.
