Hello I was wondering why there are 2 little holes in my MT rims?
Do they have a function or is it just something that makes manufactoring easier?
I've seen an discussion earlier on this forum about how to get the dirt and water out of your foam inserts again after it has come in trough these holes. But it never got clear why they are there in the first place.
If they are not important I'am planning to just put a drop of glue in them and avoid dirt getting into my inserts.

The holes are important. If you get water in your tire, then the holes allow them to sort of leak. I would keep them ;)

Actually Tec, the holes are to let air out of the tires, otherwise they're quite bouncy.

A neat trick however is to plug up the hole in the rim, and drill the tire on the outside edge instead. Now when dirt or water goes in, the centrifugal force when driving will suck it right out. This was even in the tips and tricks of RCCA once...

If you keep the holes on the rim, over time you're tire will fill with crud and be way off balance, I once had a tire that would literally hop on its own as I drove, thats when I started drilling on the outside....

Thanks this ssems to make sense ducat1777. But doesn't the tire get kind of weak from drilling holes on the edge? I'am having hpi dirt bonz tires and they already seem kind of thin. no increased chance on tearing?

You're just drilling a couple of small holes in the wheels, nothing major. Your wheels will be fine.
