hi everyone,
i'm new to off road, and now i've been having fun with my little mt2 18ss, recently i just had a crash, and broken a few parts...been a hard time just to look for a C-hub for this mt2, therefore, i'm planning to switch to something which is more popular, and have more after market partsk, so any suggestion? i've come down to the savage 4.6 or revo...
i don't care with i need to build the kit or not, i just want to know about the performace and after market parts...
thank you everyone :)

well.. almost every monster out there now has a hoast of after market parts so if you want an MT, upgrades shouldn't be an issue. now, think about it for a second, imagine yourself outside driving a revo, and then imagine driving a savage, which would YOU rather do?

There usually is a larger aftermarket for Traxxas vehicles, but there is no shortage of them for the Savage, regardless of most being wasted blingage.
The SS 4.6 is, of course, a kit so you'd need radio equipment. The Revo comes with the basic radio system that I don't like. I have a Savage .25 SS and my baby bro has a Revo.
To me, the Savage doesn't really need aftermarket parts. The only thing I would change on a Revo would be the suspension arms after they break. Otherwise, the only thing I'd change on either of the two would be some different tires - for the Savage, maybe something for all around bashing or street racing; for the Revo, something for the track. The stock tires on the Revo just don't hook up on my local track and the stockers on the Savage SS 4.6 are made for the track (HPI Dirt Bonz).
One thing that I recommend you consider is parts availability. My LHS caters to Traxxas vehicles, which is handy for my baby bro if something on his Revo breaks and he needs a replacement right away. They carry very few HPI parts. I currently don't keep any spare parts for mine around, as it hasn't ever needed them. I hopped it up as I built mine. The new SS K4.6 already has every hopup on it.
Both trucks are fun as can be and I'm pretty impressed with my baby bro's Revo so far. It definitely is more sturdy than the T-Maxx. He has a set of the RPM suspension arms on order for when his stock ones break, and they are known to do so. I've run about three gallons' worth of severe bashing through my truck and have not replaced a single part.
Just something for you to chew on. You'll hear from people who own one that the other one sucks and vice versa. Go with what you want and like. If those are your two choices, either one would be great. Good luck with whatever you choose!

Here is my 2 cents.
1.) The best truck and radio system currently available is the LOSI LST. I have 2, and out of the box they are hot.
2.) A standard HPI savage is a great truck, especially if running on sand. However, the standard HPI motor will run for a while, but plan on replacing it.
I have 3 of these engines (all in the scrap bin).
I have a Genesis truck, but the jury is still out on it. Appears to be a strong runner but the radio system is junk. I didn't even bother using it. Bought a new JR and put it in from the start.
If I wanted a fast, hot, truck, with a great radio it would be a LOSI LST. :)

shock ends are another known weak part of the Revo. I have both trucks and would recommend both. Much like kitty, my LHS stocks a ton of traxxas stuff and no sav parts. I also have had to buy a ton of traxxas parts (t-maxx), but only bent 1 shock shaft on my sav.

Challenger:
1) He asked about the Savage and Revo, not MTs in general.
2) I know plenty of people with 5+ gallons through their S-25s. If you don't break in properly and take proper care of any engine, it won't last very long.

LOve my Savage SS! Sold my T-Maxx and bought this truck over a year ago because my Maxx couldn't handle the abuse of truly big air jumps.
HPI Savage, you won't regret it! Go for the SS and get the bigger engine, and all the hop-ups that I had to pay extra for and modify myself...now included with the kit. You can also get the radio of your choice this way too.

Take Nate's word for it, mate. He's the guy who has managed to break parts on a Savage that no one else has. I forgot one thing earlier: I have broken one part on my Savage and that was the rear diff pinion. Not bad for a hyper chick who drives her truck like it's a rental. Nate's even more brutal with his trucks and I have that first hand by spectators.

LOL, thanks for the good words Kitty...I think...hehehe. That's brutal, but not intentionally running into brick walls :D just good ol fun.

I was just offering my thoughts on this. I have 2 T MAX trucks (one big block and one small block) they are great with easy to find parts. My Savage is the best truck for running/racing on the sands of Daytona Beach. A T MAX is not bad on sand but the servo that hangs down on the bottom of the truck will get sand in it.
No question he was asking about a Savage vs Revo but it never hurts to offer additional information on other products. A LOSI LST is NOT a truck for sand. Because the way the gears are set up I wouldn't even consider it.
However, in my opinion (my 2 cents) it's the best truck when you consider out of the box speed and a good quality radio. :)

its a very hard decision
both trucks have their weaknesses and strengths

I ahve both of these trucks. My revo has a O.S .18tm in it, and the thing just moves. I'll be using it for racing. My savage is just for bashing around. I haven't tried to bash my revo that hard, but I just don't see it standing up to the abuse that my savage takes. But, I've heard from others that the Revo can take quite a bit, I just haven't tried it. I did break an a-arm on my savage, but I cracked a rock at quite a good clip to do that, and I've broken a shock. Been very happy with the savage.

Challenger: point taken, bro. I apologise if what I said came off too strong. It's just that I see so many threads where someone will ask to compare two vehicles (usually the Savage and Revo) and get tons of people screaming at them to buy a TNX or MGT.
scaredsilly: The Revo can take a lot more punishment than its predecessor (T-Maxx), that's for darned sure. The main weak component on the Revo is the suspension arms, but thanks to RPM, that's not a problem. I have bent a shock shaft on my Savage. It even bent the darned spring, but somehow the shock survived fully intact. I must have hit something awfully hard. Those shock shafts are quite durable.

I say Savage.
I was going to snag a Revo, but people in the know told me that they have reliability issues. Looking at the design for myself, Im inclined to agree.
If its a hardcore racer, and you're going to rebuild it every week anyway, then the Revo is probably a better choice. But for a fun truck I would say grab the Savage. Its durable, reliable, and faster for all but the most elite of racers.

I can't see where you get the "rebuild every week" thing from. I own both a Revo and a Savage. I ran the Revo for two months' worth of Sundays at the local track and nothing broke. The Savage is good for bashing but would take a bit of work (lowering ride height, heavier shock oil, etc.) to make a good racer. The simplest way to brek it down would be:
Revo = racing
Bashing = Savage
As a matter of fact, getting my Savage ready for sale... :p
