I just wanted to get your opinions about running a brushless motor in my TC4. Also is anyone running one in theirs? I want to be able to hit 90 MPH on speed runs with a brushless in the 1/8th.

Lots of cells! I suggest lots of Lipo cells (for their light weight), and lots of them! And a low kv brushless motor that would be pushed hard (but can take it).

I really can't see a TC-4 hitting 90 MPH on any setup. I will be running my new Xray on a Drag meet this weekend using 12 cells, U-force 75 and C40 6 turn and would be happy to get anything close to 60-70MPH on a 40 metre straight.

Thats not quite the right motor to be running with that amount of cells you need some thing like a C40 12s as there is a danger you could over rev your motor and break something.

Well I read in one of the R/C mags where they took a X-Ray T-1 I think and used a hacker C40-10T and Master series controller with 11 cells and hit 88MPH. So I don't think hitting 90MPH in a TC4 should be that hard. Like I said I'm running it at a 1/8 mile strip. Also I'm in Texas so heat is a major concern.

Okay, here it is: Use the Kokam 3200 mah 20C discharge cells. Use a Schulze 32.80 and higher controller. Use a UBEC. Now, with the TC4, packaging the cells is the issue - but if you use say 6s lipos stacked on the battery side, you'll have about 20 ounces of batteries (a little off on balance - but not too much). A 6s 3200 Kokam will give out about 2000 watts peak for a brief moment of time. You'll be running 22.2 volts so approx 20 volts and a motor that will hit redline at that speed. If you run a Hacker C40 series, something around 4000 rpm/volt and if you go to the larger motors, you can only go 3000 rpm/volt. With the smaller motors, gear it at around 28/72 and you should be around 90 mph mark.
YOU NEED A GOOD BODY WITH GOOD DOWNFORCE. Otherwise, the car will float and flip like a piece of paper. Good luck!
BTW, I have a TC4, lipos, and have done plenty of speed runs.

Thanks, any suggestions on body? I was thinking about the Salleen S7.

Maybe more of a coupe style, my friend used to run the honda civic body. He said it had lots of downforce. Though Im not sure that it wouldn't be to much at 90mph. (oops double negative)

Most bodies flex too much at high speeds. Some of the problems I encounter is that the air enters under the body and creates pressure below it or something and the car starts to float above 60 mph. Very slick. You need a way to prevent air from getting underneath it (cut wheel wells as close as possible - or don't cut them out at all!) Cut out the whole rear section to create ground effects, put a wing in the rear - and you might even need one in the front!!! Good luck again.

OptimaMan I have another question for you what tires are you using? Also do you know what the spool up time is on any of the motors? I am going to be running it on an 1/8th mile dragstrip? Just wondering if you happen to know. I don't want to melt the motor or esc. I am looking at several different options for bodys right now. Do you have any other suggestions?
1/10th pan car style bodies that look like the 1/12th bodies. You'll just have to cut a little where the front shock mounts are but this should prob work better than any touring style bodie out. I think Parma makes them.

For some odd reason, foam tires didn't work at high speeds so I use the softest rubber I can get my hands on. GLUE them in like crazy cuz they typically blow out at a certain speed. I use like 20 or 22 tires with soft liners to get maximum traction.
Havy: yeah, you're right... about 15 years ago, I had a 1/10 pan car with that type of body. Had excellent downforce on smooth roads... as soon as it would hit a little bump, air would get under the body and float the thing too. I had it in my RC10L with 10 cells and a 12 turn motor! Hahaha It must've hit about 70 before it floated and flipped in the air and cracked the graphite axle, stripped the spur gear, and all the electronics sheared off the servo tape. Pretty cool...
Now that I think about it, the most important thing for a 1/10 vehicle to go fast is a nice clean smooth surface to run on.

Would Optima's setup be okay for extended parking lot sessions?

Optima - what setup do your run in your tc4?

Right now, I'm running a Lehner 1520 10 turn (about 4200 kv) with U Force 75 and usually 3s or 4s lipos. Depending on gearing, this setup will take me to 60 mph in a heartbeat (well, actually, 2-3 heartbeats) and faster if I want. In addition, runtime for bashing is fine. Usually get bored rather than batteries getting used up.

What Voltage are you running? Also what gears are you using?

Hacker c50 6L (4060 kv) on 6s/7s lipos should get you to 85mph plus.

How fast have you gotten to so far 90mphtc4?

Right now top speed is 79 MPH. Working on aerodynamics to reduce drag on the rear and increase it on the front it wants to float above 65. Losing traction and steering at that speed sucks, and gets expensive quick replacing broken parts. I did take Optimaman advice and use lipos. The 20c kokams rock BTW. Running 22.2 Volts is insane in the TC4. I takes about 300 feet before it starts to float. Running 88 Tooth Spur And 44 Tooth pinion. 5 FDR. I hope to get a chance to run it this Sunday and the 1/8 mile dragstrip and see what it will do with that much room. Hope to get some good Vids too.

What Motor/Controller r you using and how did you test top speed?

79 mph - that's pretty good! I don't think I've ever gotten my TC4 beyond 70 actually. But now between you and nitrochubb, I have something to shoot for.
