well, my T3 is due for a new body. This will be only the second body I've ever painted, and I only have access to rattle cans. Does Bob Dively's control bleeding better than tape? Does BD's dry clear? Is there a "best" kind of rattle can paint to pinstripe with? anyway, here's the idea. I take my t3 Sierra, and mask it off with Bob's. I draw a tribal dragon which appears to be crawling down towards the hood on the outside with a flame reaching down into the window. I paint only the outline of the dragon in about a 1/8th inch red pinstripe. I also outline some numbers, and a tribal design on the side, leaving the middle of the designs clear. I also put a pinstripe around the windows. the rest I then just fill black, including the inside of the designs, leaving the windows clear obviously excluding the flame outline. What do you think??

it seems to me if you're doing that much masking you should use more than one color of paint. The scheme sounds cool, but will be hard to see unless your holding the truck.

I don't now about pinstriping, but I have learned what not to use for any detail work and that's Pactra Indy Silver in the can. I've had two cans that sprayed nothing but clear while testing on another surface, then when it started to spray the silver, it came out in big blobs of heavy metallic silver. I always warm my cans ahead of time and shake the daylights out of them, especially with metallics.

I've used a few cans of Tamiya Polycarb and found them to spray very evenly and I got great coverage with them, as opposed to the Pactra cans, which pretty much took nearly an entire can just to paint to cover a 1/10 body completely. If I ever have to use rattle cans again, if I can find the colour I want in Tamiya Polycarb, I'll use that over the Pactra.

I have a thread around here, probably on page 2 or 3 of this forum by now, in which I used Tamiya Cherry Red (pink) on most of the body and the Pactra Indy Silver for the roll bars. It took the entire can of the Indy Silver just to do the roll bars, which isn't much of the body, while the Tamiya covered the remaining parts of the shell and still left me with more than half a can of paint.

hey mate,
I always use rattle cans to pain my cars.. i can pull out flames and all sorts of sweet fading..
Tamiya cans work a treat and if there is one piece of advice i can give you is TAKE YOUR TIME!! The key to remember is many light coats is always better than fewer heavy coats. Although it will take 4-5 times longer you will see the difference in the final product!
As for masking i use tape, for the pin stripes i would suggest using a masking tape Tamiya produce, its yellow and comes in all sorts of widths. ive never used it for pin striping so u may need to double up on it but it will give you a perfectly even stipe..
Good luck, hope it all works out for ya and when u mask the tribal stuff make sure you check all the edges are stuck down tight so there no leakege..

this is the stuff... pretty cheap but you get heaps on a roll and its great for masking curved areas too
