I have been looking for some good ideas/tutorials for doing some shading/shadowing for a furling flag or cloth. I have a basic idea of what needs to be done to make this effect look good but I am not completely sure I can implement it properly. Any ideas on what paint(s) and color(s) I should be using. Currently I have been using FasKolor but have no problem switching to something else. Should I be using some sort of transparent color or a thinning out an opaque color?

To do the best shading, you should use a transparent paint. The Faskolor line should be fine. I dunno what color you are trying to use or I could give you a specific one.

I'm going to use white as my base color and I was thinking of a transparent black or charcoal for shading the furls.

This is using Faskolor Fastint for the shadowing. Works very well IMO...

i use fastint as well, jsut be sure to do it in light layers, key word light, and build it up to the darkness you want, for white you probally wont need very many layers at all,

Thank you all for your input. I will probably be putting your advice to use real soon. I will post pictures when I am done.

I tried using FasTint last night and I had a terrible time with it. I must have applied 4 to 5 light coats to add some drop shadows and shading and I swear I can barely even see it after backing it with silver. Is there a trick to using this stuff or am I just a little to impatient. BTW, I did let the paint dry in between coats.

The paint job I did is one coat of fastint. Backing it with silver may have been your problem. Silver has black in it, which may have taken away from the effect some.

ARGH!!! Well I will be using it again to do some additional shading and shadowing over other colors so I will see how it performs on those.
